Probably too late for that...we are on the verge of being outside a proper tank already, and (as I expected) Pop has shown little signs of preventing this group from competing (other than playing Forbes and Eubanks, I guess).

I anticipate another pick in the 10-15 range.

Sadly I think you are right but I can always hope. And wright now we are currently not in a bad spot. These last few games have moved us up but that also means a few bad games and we can be back at the bottom again.

Wish DJM well and speedy recovery but he really needed some rest time anyways and it will give others (Primo hopefully included) more playing time. As long as D.White is aggressive and locked in, the Spurs should get the W today. GSG!!

Have to test negative twice at least 24 hours apart via PCR testing. Or go 10 days or more after the first positive test.

Bummer for DJM. Does that mean he has tested positive and out 10 days or could it be less if he was just exposed?

From what I know, depends on a lot of factors. I doubt they put him into protocols unless he actually tested positive.

If he is vaccinated and can show consecutive negative tests, they may clear him sooner. If he continues to test positive, he's probably looking at the full 10 days, and lets hope (for his sake) that he is asymptomatic and not hit too hard. We've seen guys like Tatum or Embiid catch it and they just didn't look the same coming back.

The Pistons are tanking, and the Spurs look ready to help them with that. I’m still wary of something which looks so predictable. I hope it turns lopsided enough that the extended bench can get some run, Primo especially.

They have done so well this past decade.

Come on, tanking works... Look at the Sixers, 3 hard years of hard tanking and now 6 or 7 years into the "Process" they have reached the Conference semi finals!!!

Same for The Pels, they tanked for AD who in four years gave them ONE PO SERIES!!! before asking (of course) to be traded but they got Zion in return!!! who (when he'll be able to stay on the court more than 2 games in a row) will lead them to heaven!!

So, if instead of playing and giving experience to their promising young core, would the spurs tank hard, they could get (maybe) a generational player who would need 4 years to develop, while spurs would keep sucking, before asking to be traded to NY or LA (like Nephew)... Ain't that great!?

that's what some people don't get, this isn't the 90's anymore... It's a player leagues anyway

I know it won't happen, but Spurs have a great chance for 3 more wins.

Pistons are a g-league team, have to take care of business early on.
Back to back tomorrow, Mitchell not travelling, injury.
Heat after that, they'll be on a back to back and they have only 3 good players available.

So what's the alternative to the best possible odds of landing a franchise player? (which the 76ers and Pelicans did, making the tank a success).

The "promising young core" is being led by a limited offensive trio of 26, 25 and 27 year old's and barring the unforeseen, has a ceiling of treadmill status.

Small market should be called farm to market. Tanking is just putting your name in the hat to be the next farm team for LA to pilfer.

Absolutely, I LOVE the switchup from Poeltl to Landale, the latter especially is very athletic and coordinated for a bench big. I really could see him starting sometime in the next few seasons. Having a bench of all (quasi, with Tre) shooters is huge.

You just wonder what the team could do with a healthy ZCollins.

That’s less than $20 mil invested (not counting Collins because of his uncertain future) in that position. People talk about poor asset management by the Spurs, but right now they have so much flexibility to do what they want to fill the other positions because they’re not stuck with bad contracts. They put little money into the NBA’s least important position - Center.

Impossible to compare right now tbh as Jock is 26 and and Sengün is barely 19. Sengun will be the better player in 7 years imo, but who knows. Jock is a fine prospect in his own right and fits the timeline of our team better. He’s just what we need from a backup C tbh.

I love, love, love Primo handling the ball so intensely during this run. He's actually playing PG right now, and he's damn good at it. Pass-first, knows when to drop the ball, has good instincts for passing lanes, can throw the alley-oop (even if Eubanks mostly can't finish them). He's gotten a few "rookie" passes picked or missed his mark, but it's a great sign.

This is a ball-handler's league at every position, glad to see it. Next step will be getting him to shoot more, try to make more plays for himself out of the dribble. He's a little too unselfish right now. Oh, and he just took a charge! What a guy...

He played wing a bit with Tre but yeah, multiple ball handlers is a new modern day NBA asset, especially if COVID protocol is the new norm. It’s like baseball— they switch pitchers every game. Think about being the only team in the NBA not to skip a beat with your offense because you have multiple talented players who can run it competently.

That’s ignoring the fact that White is known to be injury prone and we have a couple on/off players who don’t bring it every night.

Lack of size tbh. His best position is PF but he just doesn't have the size to play it and lacks the lateral quickness to play SF.

Still, his improved shooting will raise his floor quite a bit. Can still see him being an all star caliber player despite his limitations.

Keldon and his 3 point shooting. What a turnaround. He still doesn't seem like a star yet but honestly with so many good but not great (yet) players on the team, and the unselfishness in passing the ball, maybe he doesn't need to be a "star" this season if we keep winning games like this. It's a good problem to have.

I'm more mad at Pop for not giving Landale the light of day for like, 25 games, than I am at anything Primo-related this season. I'd love to see him get even more G-L experience once it resumes, and then get back to the Spurs once the G-L season ends (I read somewhere that Austin isn't likely to make the playoffs there) and get more consistent minutes. If tonight was a preview of things to come, it's a great future for him.

I think the only thing is $$ tbh and whether the role the Spurs envision for him aligns with the expectations of his own game.

Although dissimilar players, a Jerami Grant situation may loom, where they feel their talents and price match up to a pseudo number one option and another team feels exactly the same way.

You can see three things Primo has improved just from getting additional, consistent reps. from the G-League rather than spot duty with the main club:

Defense, Knowledge of the Spurs system (and from various positions too) and Ball Security.

I love that his dribbling seems more precise without losing his flair for advanced ISO development by being reeled in. This was something I feel Lonnie struggled with (and still does to a great extent).

they just want an expiring to shed the salary. Could be a 3-team deal. Grant would basically improve everything the Spurs need to improve on while replacing Walker off the bench with McDermott. Spurs would be top 4 or 5 in the west easily

Here's a problem with his passing. Kinda hard to describe with words, but here goes. He often just passes using his extended dribbling hand without bringing the ball into full control. To do that properly IMO you have to bring the hand back and cock it at the wrist. If you just loft it from an already extended position, you have no velocity and are asking for a deflection or a interception because this league has faster players than he is used to. Easily corrected, but it's there.

objective
12-27-2021, 01:30 PM
Regarding Primo and his passing:

I was incredibly annoyed with Forbes last night because of his inability or outrig5 refusal to pass for the easy score. The most egregious was not hitting Lonnie for an alley oop. Then another play happened a short while later where his Forbes-ness didn't pass.

I'm confident Primo would have hit those passes.

That's the thing with Forbes, he does nothing to help a team win and even his shooting might not be enough, Milwaukee couldn't justify him on the floor with all world defenders like Giannis, jrue, Lopez, Tucker, or Middleton. If Primo was in his place there'd be the shooting, but the floor of the team would be raised because there'd be better defense, better passing,, better transition, better early offense, etc etc
