There may have been something to those leaked rumors to Portland. Agreed. There's still no money in the WNBA, their coaches might not even make much more than she gets now. She probably remembers the lack of money as a player and having to sell out her country for the extra rubles so she didn't have to eat ramen nightly.

College seems so much more stable, WNBA still being financed by the NBA, it's always a risk to be folded. If that ever happens the women's college market will be flooded by desperate people looking for work. Better to get in now, she'd probably have job security for life in whichever college town she wants.

This whole playing up the WNBA could be a strategy to just drum up interest from places that were fooled into thinking she was refusing to consider anything less than a head job in the NBA. Now a bunch of colleges with booster money and endowments for women's studies etc can reach out to the agent for such a trailblazer who might have seemed unobtainable.

Yeah it is puzzling why Becky isn’t right there in the running as Pop’s successor. She appears qualified from my vantage point as she has studied under one of the best for quite some time, ACTUALLY played pro ball SUCCESSFULLY, has the respect of her players and knows the system. Someone here mentioned the Spurs wanted Jay Wright of Villanova. I don't know if that's true, if he'd even be willing to come, or what it would take. A quick google search said that he makes just under $4mil per year and recently (supposedly) turned down an offer at UCLA for $7.75mil per year to stay where he is.

He was assistant coach under Pop at the Olympics and he's already in the basketball hall of fame. He's not "young", but he is 12 years younger than Pop.
