7 years after watching my first live Spurs game, I get to watch them for the first time in the Garden. GSG!!!

Nice. I was going to go up for both NYC games but the covid outbreak made me change my mind. Didn't want to spend the money to see half the team. I'll wait till they come to DC.

Looking forward to seeing how Lonnie performs after his season high yesterday. Might be asking too much on second night of a b2b and after just returning from Covid protocols, but expecting 25+ from the Sky-Walker for us to have a chance.

DJ - Lonnie - Primo - KBD - Poeltl

heyheymymy

DJ has had a few near miss triple doubles in recent games stuck on that 9.

heyheymymy
01-10-2022, 07:42 PM
Love the heavy utilization of primo here so he can shake off some of these easy TOs and engage sooner

emanueldavidginobili

I didn't know DJ leads the NBA in steals. He might get an All-Defensive spot
His second year in the NBA at 21 years old he was NBA All-Defensive Second Team, which I was surprised really that he got it. He definitely deserves it this year, minus the steals he disrupts the game defensively in so many other ways as well.

LeBowen
01-10-2022, 07:45 PM
Clyde's description of Lonnie is spot on, tbh.

Erratic or dramatic.

I know. He basically got it cause the entire Spurs team was still great defensively and he had a 7 steal performance against Cleveland. That helped him

Barfunk

Not a fan of Primo playing on a back-2-back. He needs all the rest he can get.

RC_Drunkford
01-10-2022, 07:53 PM
Primo is playing some good D out there

PhantomDashCam
01-10-2022, 07:55 PM
Geez, DJ taking more and more 3s off the dribble. Unreal.

RC_Drunkford
01-10-2022, 07:56 PM
why in hell is Eubanks out there instead of Jock?

Dejounte
01-10-2022, 07:57 PM

Degoat
01-10-2022, 07:58 PM

I think he was questionable for his game

LeBowen

This has to be the worst lineup in Spurs history, right?

emanueldavidginobili
01-10-2022, 07:58 PM

Yup, was just thinking the same. Thats a great sign. Keldon needs to learn how to do that next.

Dejounte
01-10-2022, 07:59 PM
Eubanks is the worst player on the court with two clear g leaguers with him

RC_Drunkford
01-10-2022, 08:00 PM

Lonnie has been phenomenal on D this game. Really impressive. :tu
THAT'S what he needs to focus on.
If his D can become slightly more than passable consistently, he's got a long career ahead of him because his O is oh-so-close.
It may-never-become, but the D will still be there in the meantime.

He has the tools.

Dejounte
01-10-2022, 08:10 PM
So in my eyes, it seems the bare minimum from Lonnie has improved from “invisible” to me expecting him to give us a nice spark on the regular

Uriel
01-10-2022, 08:11 PM
Love the organ at Madison Square.

John B
01-10-2022, 08:11 PM
So far so good for Lonnie continuing to be aggressive

PhantomDashCam
01-10-2022, 08:11 PM
Yup, was just thinking the same. Thats a great sign. Keldon needs to learn how to do that next.

I would probably rank him developing more of a handle, becoming more of a secondary playmaker and solid defender ahead of that.

Yeah you don’t hear that a lot nowadays

Dejounte
01-10-2022, 08:20 PM
I like Poeltl but his “pop a shot” when theres no defender in front of him? What the fuck?

barakz21
01-10-2022, 08:24 PM
Nice. I was going to go up for both NYC games but the covid outbreak made me change my mind. Didn't want to spend the money to see half the team. I'll wait till they come to DC.

Tell me bout it, we’ve been getting a bunch of COVID positives at work. Anyways, this definitely is a better experience. First time I saw the Spurs was back in ‘15 at Staples against the Clips.. in the nosebleed section lol.

KingKev
01-10-2022, 08:26 PM
Nice to not have to listen to Clyde Frazier commentate. He sounds like a 7th grader writing a paper who just figured out the synonym function in word.

John B
01-10-2022, 08:27 PM
That’s a help that Poeltl doesn’t really need to commit and leave his man for an open dunk. Just show a little and should deter that shot

LeBowen
01-10-2022, 08:28 PM
Primo will be the best passer on the team in no time.

John B
01-10-2022, 08:30 PM
That’s KBD pushing to get to an open dunk by Eubanks

John B
01-10-2022, 08:31 PM

RJ Barret taking over

01-10-2022, 08:33 PM
He's obviously not as good, but would it be an exaggeration to say that Murray's game resembles a 6"5 Nephew?

Dejounte
01-10-2022, 08:33 PM
Randle being booed again :lmao :lmao

RC_Drunkford
01-10-2022, 08:33 PM
Poeltl out here airballing hook shots as usual :lmao

KingKev
01-10-2022, 08:34 PM
He's obviously not as good, but would it be an exaggeration to say that Murray's game resembles a 6"5 Nephew?

On offense yes.

John B
01-10-2022, 08:35 PM
Randle with the Harden 4-step 3. I hate that shot :lol

John B
01-10-2022, 08:39 PM
He's obviously not as good, but would it be an exaggeration to say that Murray's game resembles a 6"5 Nephew?

The occasional steal, but that’s where it ends. Kawhi goes strong to the basket to get contact, something that DJM needs to learn to earn trips to the FT line

Slippy
01-10-2022, 08:42 PM
Spurs are missing Jock. Drew Eubanks just doesnt cut it. He getting abused out there. A weak link on defense.

Wtf was that airball right hook by Jacob close in the keyway. Could of had the team tied going into the break .

emanueldavidginobili
01-10-2022, 08:46 PM
The season is more than half way over and DJ is really 1st in the league in steals and 4th in the league in assist.

RC_Drunkford
01-10-2022, 08:48 PM
out of Primo, Wieskamp, Cacock and Tyles Johnson getting minutes, Eubanks is the biggest problem. That says a lot.

BackHome
01-10-2022, 08:51 PM
Yeah I like Eubanks but every year Spurs should be working on bringing in better talent and they should be able to replace him and also Tre who still not shown an outside shot

John B
01-10-2022, 08:52 PM
Does Jakob has a big bullseye behind him for big guys to ally op on him?

Dejounte
01-10-2022, 08:53 PM
Primo has special passing skills for a wing

John B
01-10-2022, 08:55 PM
Again driving to 3 defenders, coukd’ve been a TO

John B
01-10-2022, 08:56 PM

John B
01-10-2022, 08:56 PM

01-10-2022, 09:00 PM
Primo has special passing skills for a wing
And of course his age, it's crazy he played his entire FR year at Alabama playing off the ball, and still is showing elite vision at times.

RC_Drunkford
01-10-2022, 09:02 PM
Primo is already way better than Tre Jones. On both ends

Dejounte
01-10-2022, 09:02 PM
Primo WANTS IT. He doesn’t back down from the moment. This kid is going to be special.

John B
01-10-2022, 09:03 PM
Primo moving without the ball

Sugus
01-10-2022, 09:05 PM
Dejounte impacting the defense without even touching the ball :lol

John B
01-10-2022, 09:05 PM
Nice D until, Forbes on Fournier legs

Sugus
01-10-2022, 09:05 PM
...Fournier making a 3 on Forbes' bitch ass face :depressed

Dejounte
01-10-2022, 09:05 PM
Tbh I don’t care if the Spurs draft another guard. Get more insanely confident players like Primo and Murray. That’s the secret ingredient to success.

Lonnie has gone quiet

PhantomDashCam
01-10-2022, 09:12 PM

RC_Drunkford
01-10-2022, 09:12 PM
Eubanks didn't get 1 rebound in 14 minutes :lmao

John B
01-10-2022, 09:12 PM
There you go Lonnie

Slippy
01-10-2022, 09:12 PM
The Bryn and Tyler backcourt aint going to cut it. :lol

RJ who dominating licking his chops.

RC_Drunkford

Primo needs to work on actually getting to the rim and scoring. Dude is always look to pass it

Slippy
01-10-2022, 09:17 PM
Eubanks playing non committal defense on one end and getting blocked close in on the other end.

Leetonidas
01-10-2022, 09:18 PM
I really can't stand how god damn soft Poeltl is. So frustrating watching this dude toss up soft floaters when he's right in front of the rim

Dejounte
01-10-2022, 09:18 PM
Forbes is pretty damn confident

Fuck, you’re right. Let me adjust the ingredients.

+insanely confident
+skilled
+high basketball iq
+and a hint of loyalty so they don’t leave us after their contract is up

RC_Drunkford
01-10-2022, 09:18 PM
man give this team a Myles Turner and they score at least 8-10 points more per game

John B
01-10-2022, 09:18 PM
Lonnie likes that semi-pump and acrobatic shot. Just go strong and dunk it

Sugus
01-10-2022, 09:20 PM
Man, I have so much confidence in Primo, it's insane. I love smart players and he's visibly a quick thinker on the court, plays with a freedom and confidence that's very hard to find. AND he's the youngest player in the entire league. Crazy good pick.

Slippy
01-10-2022, 09:20 PM
Lonnie looking tired. No legs on three and last couple of drives.. needs to pass it out and get a breather

Dejounte
01-10-2022, 09:21 PM
I agree, this has been one of Poeltl’s uncommon games where he’s just TURRIBLE and is hurting the team at times

SPURt
01-10-2022, 09:22 PM
Pop’s gonna ride Murray still he spits. Murray playing like an all-star

Dejounte
01-10-2022, 09:22 PM
Whaaaaaat the fuck was that Lonnie

RC_Drunkford
01-10-2022, 09:23 PM
the Knicks really got lucky with that 4th pick where they got Barrett instead of Zion

John B
01-10-2022, 09:23 PM

I think Pop likes his confidence giving him more slacks than normal I think. But Primo is just making it simple, nothing really fancy unnecessary moves

Slippy
01-10-2022, 09:24 PM
Will say this .. spurs are seriously undermanned on this 2nd game of a back to back.

More-so because Tyler Johnson and Drew Eubanks are giving them nothing.

John B
01-10-2022, 09:30 PM
No offense there except Primo

Sugus
01-10-2022, 09:30 PM
This closing lineup has been disgusting, what's the "deep bench" that Pop's gonna play now if not for exactly these guys :lol

Primo -21 tonight. Still glad he is finally getting minutes.

He was one of the few competent players the Spurs had in uniform tonight. I didn't see much he was doing wrong and most of that plus/minus came from when the team ran out of gas and the Knicks were hitting everything. This was a game where having White and Vassell would have helped.

Kid was playing with arguably the two worst players in the league in Forbes and Eubanks. Pop was better off pulling two guys out the stands than playing those two jokers.

Dejounte Murray fails to lead us to another win. He just doesn't have “it”

He needs to study the great PGs such as Steven Francis, Steph Marbury, Kenny Anderson, Damon Stoudemire etc etc. he just isn’t a leader, an alpha, or a dog, and certainly not the head of the snake.

Man Poetls line doesn't look awful but I feel he's taken a huge step back in the past couple of weeks. Dude is back to playing very weak when he gets the ball in the paint. I know he can't always dunk it, but fuck there were 3-4 times today that he just refused to drunk the fucking ball. Defense is still good though so whatever I guess.

RC_Drunkford

this team lost against the Pistons who had 13 rotation players out and started 2 guys who never played in the NBA before. They could literally lose to a random streetball team

That little bunny-hop floater that was so consistent early in the season seems to have dried up.

I think having a floater in his toolkit is a good thing, especially since he's not known for being physical on offense, but damn...it's like the only shot he ever takes now unless he has a wide open dunk.

He's not Tony Parker that's for sure. Poeltl's offensive game is still non-existent and it's a real shame, tbh.

didn't Poeltl get rim checked on a dunk recently when he was like two feet from it? :lol maybe thats why he's afraid to dunk. i've never in my life seen a 7 foot player get rim checked on a dunk from the restricted area :lmao

Kid was playing with arguably the two worst players in the league in Forbes and Eubanks. Pop was better off pulling two guys out the stands than playing those two jokers.

Exactly, Primo is surrounded by sh!t players when he's on the court. Pop would be better off cutting Forbes and signing some G-leaguers to 10-day contracts. Maybe we'd find someone worth a darn. We know with Forbes we've got no-upside trash, yet he continues to get minutes that other guys could be using.

For 3 quarters when the spurs were going toe to toe with the knicks i thought DJ team ran the team as well as could ask of him. He was extra efficient and gave his teammates great looks. Damn shame his teammates couldnt capitalise and the spurs were undermanned.

I'm not that sure, tbh. I was full-on Hali before the draft, and these years of Vassell (and Hali ofc) haven't made me change my mind in the slightest. Devin's defense is very good and he can shoot it at times, but he's way too passive and comfortable with deferring, or rather, very uncomfortable with trying to "be the man" and step up on offense at any time. He'll flash a pull-up J or two per game that shows the "potential" that's there, followed with a whole buncha' nothing.

I'm expecting that from Lonnie, not Devin, FFS. And meanwhile, Hali was practically born with "the guy" instincts, and has taken over several games for the Kings and won them (in the past, you could've said "yeah but that's the KINGS, there's an actual system and pecking order in SanAn; but now? Not really). He literally single-handedly won them the game last time we played them, whilst Devin had 11 measly points (of course, PPG ain't everything, but the contrast was stark). And, in a shooter's and ballhandler's league, it doesn't really look like Hali has reached his ceiling or is close to it - he's gotten much cleaner as a passer, and leads the NBA in stepback 3's (a kind of shot literally no one on the Spurs, except maybe Primo, can even generate).

So yeah, I'm pulling for a Devin makeover this off-season or the next, but... It's not looking so good right now, IMO.
