The father in the article says he used the money to pay for girl scouts, ballet and acting lessons. And the democrats and liberal media are outraged that Manchin would cut that off. The money is supposed to help the truly needy. Its suppose to pay for rent, food....basic needs. Not ballet and shoes and acting lessons. You democrats are a joke.

You sure that's what the child tax credit has been for all this time? Why have non-poor parents been getting it all along and still will get it after you think it ends?

They're (media) lettin' Manchin know that if he doesn't capitulate and take Sinema with him on filibuster/voting the gloves are off and he'll not be treated as a quaint curiosity for both R's & D's ever more. That he'll be "touched."

You still think Manchinema will capitulate?
Imo y’all won this round, in another 3 months it’ll be midterm season when all legislation comes to a grinding halt, and there’s almost no chance Manchinema change their mind before then.

I think even if Manchin flips, Sinema won't. It's unclear to me why the Dems are so focused on persuading Manchin and assuming Sinema will just follow along.
Manchin is just a stupid old man who got hit in the head one too many times playing football, Sinema is a genuine sociopath. She doesn't talk to all of the Arizona Democrats who helped her get started in national politics 10 years ago and genuinely thinks she's a future president. I think if enough pressure was put on Manchin earlier on he might have been more open to it, but there's no negotiating with someone like Sinema.

She was crying during that last statement she made, so, they figure she's vulnerable to change. Then they found that old video of her supporting the idea of the filibuster. The Dems aren't like the Repubs...the D's never give up. It's personal with them. We'll piss and moan, but once we're scalded we walk away and cry alone, or, take it out on the wife. :lmao

Manchin is a JFK Democrat. He's one of the last vestiges of the "good" (centrist / "blue dog") Democratic Party. Assuming the GOP wins the Senate in 2022, and the map is very good for the GOP to expand in 2024 even without the West Virginia seat... the GOP can easily win the Tester seat, the Stabenow seat, the Sherrod Brown seat, the Tammy Baldwin seat etc... I hope the GOP rewards him by not running against him. Because Manchin very well may have Saved America by blocking every left wing legislation except the Nov 2021 infrastructure spending bill buying time for the GOP to win back the two chambers of Congress in Nov. 2022.

Inbred, bum? That's how it all kinda went cockeyed for Reynolds and Voight, et al, -Deliverance-
Remember, I believe it was Voight who peeked into the home of that one family and an inbred child was in there. I told this story before, but being Saturday I'll tell it again. I was working for the Cleveland Plain Dealer as a circulation director. I had to go out to this home on the near West side to see about a delivery problem. Bad neighborhood. I peeked in, everything looked kosher, so I knocked and was granted entrance. Some hillbilly woman looked like grandma Walton with a beard. "I'll get him." She walked away. The house was filled with horseflies. Nosy me, I shifted over and peeked into this room off the entry way. And there was this baby crib against the far wall. "Don't go over there, Dale." I said to myself. I didn't listen as I usually don't. And walked on over, looked down in there. Christ, it was an inbred guy, like a midget in a diaper, a full one with a five o'clock shadow. Fuck me.
I don't much remember after that except driving home to Girl, fast and crying on her shoulder.

Lyndon Johnson
And no, Manchin isn't "killing voting rights". The VRA is already law and has been law for 57 years. Manchin isn't looking to repeal the LBJ era VRA. The left now just wants to radicalize and extend it to include illegal aliens and felons, green card holders, other non-citizens, and make it easier to vote in non-traditional ways that are susceptible to fraud and cheating, such as by mail, online, by mobile app, etc. Anyone who doesn't have anything to hide should be against all of that. It's a damn shame and a sham to this once-great nation that you have 48 Democrat Senators who are in support of this cheating.

Kennedy is the one who proposed the VRA and would have signed it into law if he wasn't assassinated. The VRA was pretty much invalidated by the right wing supreme court, you're an idiot.

Why would they? McConnell loves the filibuster. It limits the hell out of what the Democrats can do since reconciliation won't let them do shit like raise the minimum wage or pass a voter rights bill since neither would pass the parliamentarian. Meanwhile it gives McConnell an out for not passing stupid shit he doesn't want like Trump's border wall while letting him play victim. Hell, same shit for Trump, he didn't want that wall either, he just wanted to play victim for the Democrats blocking it. Meanwhile the only thing McConnell really cares about is tax cuts for the rich, which they can always do by reconciliation when they have 50 senators. You think McConnell wants to cede power to the GOP's fascist base?

McConnell would be stupid not to nuke it when the GOP retakes control only because it's certain to get nuked whenever Democrats retake congress again after that. It's pretty clear at this point the filibuster is done for, just a question of which party grabs power first, and Cocaine Mitch definitely knows it.
McConnell is also going to eventually lose control of that caucus when senators like Blunt and Portman get replaced by Eric Greitens and Josh Mandel.

Like it was certain to get nuked this time? The filibuster keeps the Democrats from being able to do another ACA level bill even if they have a wave election since they'll never get to 60 again in the senate until the boomers die off. McConnell killing the filibuster risks the Democrats being able to pass something big that will be unpopular for the GOP to remove, like how their attempts at ACA repeal killed them in the 2018 midterms. The filibuster is such an asset to the GOP since it neuters the Democrats while doesn't limit the Republicans' ability to give tax cuts to the rich.

Same.
The GOP almost surely wins the senate back in '24 (assuming it doesn't in '22), and it'll probably hold the senate for at least 6 years after that. By 2030+, the blue dog/centrist Democrat won't be an endangered species, it'll be extinct, and any Democratic senate majority in at that point will have like Mark Kelly as its most moderate member.
If I've thought this through it means McConnell absolutely has, thus it's toast imo.

I think the next senate majority the Democrats have after this one (whenever that may be) won't have any Manchins or Sinemas or even Mark Warners in it, and I think Cocaine Mitch is well aware of this fact, so he knows that either he nukes it or the Democratic majority that'll happen after that nukes it. There's no plausible scenario where the filibuster still exists in 10 years; just a matter of who nukes it first.

It took Trump blowing the pandemic for the Democrats to even get to 50. I don't have much faith in them doing well in the senate for a while and I don't buy there won't be another Lieberman, Nelson, Sinema, or Manchin in their ranks again if they do manage to get to 50 again in the near future.

I don't see it. All the democrats running for senate now are basically required to pledge their support of nuking the filibuster (Lamb, Demings, Ryan, etc.) in order to win a primary.
Also Sinema will get obliterated in 2024 if she runs for senate again, which is going to scare other candidates as well.
The problem is that getting back to 50+1 after we lose in 2024 could take a really fucking long time.

Just wait til republicans take back control and up the voting age. Then youll really see the wheels come off the democrat wagon. They are already setting voting bills in place. Next step is to cancel out the naive college kids until they are older and learned what earning a living is all about. All Beto did here in Texas when he ran against Cruz was hit college campuses. Republicans are gonna go extreme and try to up the voting age to 25 at least. No doubt about it. There were even democrat politicians suggesting lowering the voting age to 16. Read here:

25 is not high enough, tbh... at this stage, they need to up it to 65+ to corner the remaining boomer population in order to win the popular vote.

The 26th amendment has a voting age of 18; it would require a new constitutional amendment to change that, you wouldn't be able to do it with a simple majority.
