Report: Kidd not expected back until December
New York, NY (Sports Network) - New Jersey Nets guard Jason Kidd continues to recover from surgery on his left knee and will reportedly be sidelined until December.
The New York Post, citing multiple league and team sources, said Kidd has been working out and rehabbing the knee and that there is no timetable for his return. However, the club doesn't expect him back for several months.
The 31-year-old Kidd averaged 15.5 points, 9.2 assists and 6.4 rebounds over 67 regular-season games last year for New Jersey. He then posted averages of 12.6 points, 9.0 assists and 6.6 boards in 11 playoff contests.
The Nets were ousted in seven games by the Detroit Pistons in the Eastern Conference semifinals.
Meanwhile, the same sources are reporting that Alonzo Mourning will attempt a comeback. The 34-year-old Mourning retired from the NBA last November because of a kidney disorder and eventually underwent successful kidney transplant surgery.
Mourning played in only 12 games last season for New Jersey and averaged 8.0 points and 2.3 rebounds per contest. He was diagnosed with the disorder, which causes chronic kidney failure, in 2000.
After missing the entire 2002-03 campaign because of the illness, the two-time NBA Defensive Player of the Year was cleared to play following a physical examination.
He became a free agent in July of 2003 when the seven-year, $105 million contract he had signed with the Miami Heat expired. Mourning then inked a four-year, $22 million contract with the Nets.
