Newest power rankings from ESPN:

Never thought I'd see these Spurs, after a pretty focused start, losing at home to Chicago or dropping this low. Not without a catastrophic injury.

Dear God! We lost our third game of the season! In November! Save us, Jeebus!

seems pretty fair at this point in the season. We have lost to the Mavs and the Pistons are playing good ball.

They've won like 4 games all season...I know Tmac has been hurt and out, but there's still no excuse for their shitty play (even against average teams!)

At 3-11, Rockets are at the bottom of the WC.
Rockets fans would be exstatic if the Rockets could just TIE for last place with somebody, but Rockets are in last place by 2 GAMES!!! :lol
Even NO/OKC has won 6
Even the "Kobe & ___ Show" has won 5 games.
Jeff is not that bad a coach,
and the Rockets are not that bad a team,
but you can't argue with 3 - 11.
Only EC Raps and Hawks have worse records.

:lol Exactly. And damn, they're worse than I thought...I thought they were 4-11. I mean, I know Tmac has a huge impact on the team or whatever, but in know way are the Rockets a lottery team without him! Jeez, they're sucking!

Stupid thread. The irony of the post is how the Pistons are number one.
The fact is people don't care for these rankings. It's simply pop culture.
And if the rankings had any credit to begin with, the Mavs wouldnt be #2.

I am aware of the fact that Houston is 3-11, but they are not the 2nd worse team in the league, at least by talent. They are capable of coming in, and beating a good team on any given night. Granted, if they keep playing like this (read: crap), they'd obviously have a crack at Greg Oden next year to go along Yao.
I still don't think their problem is no TMAC, they problem is no point guard. Get them a borderline all-star point guard, and they'd be a very decent team, with or without TMAC.

"power rankings" are a measure of who's playing the best that week.
Pistons shouldn't be on the top for the same reason the Spurs shouldn't - they lost a game they shouldn't have lost. But the lost to a team with a better record, and the Mavs lost a game too, so it's not clear who should be at the top this week.
Spurs at #3 is generous I think. They're not really playing all that well right now, I'd put Cleveland higher. But Spurs are still the best team in the NBA - easily.

I think we deserve in the top three, about the ranking, there's not much difference about the playing level among these top three teams IMHO

Mark Stein is probably the best analyst on ESPN, but he overreacts when his favorite team (the Spurs) loses.

Yeah, I've been wondering about this for a couple of years now.
Marc Stein is quite obviously a Spurs fan.
Does anyone find this ironic? The best b-ball analyst at ESPN loves DRob, TD, and the Spurs! I mean, this is a team that historically has never gotten any respect from the media, and in many ways, still doesn't. Stu Scott, Skip Bayless, Jim Rome, Tony and Wilbon, Peter Vescey, Stephen A. Smith, and so many others dog on the Spurs, or just completely ignore them because they aren't sexy. But Marc Stein, of all people, is enamored. I guess I can understand since I'm a Spurs fan too, but being where he is and coming where he's coming from, it's really peculiar.

Yeah the 3 position is just about right. The Mavs and Pistons have played better so far.

They shouldnt be behind Dallas. Mavs wouldn't win more than 1 game if the 2 teams played a best of 7 starting tomorrow.

But... I still think he has the Spurs picked to win it all.. so don't get too happy yet that we are just 3 at the moment.

spurs need a lot of work to be in championship form. as long as they get there by the end of the year i have no problems.
From a scale of 1 to 10 with 10 being championship form I give the spurs a 4.
