I doubt Ainge would lose sleep with what Primo did. I expect zero tolerance with Pop, but some of his “grapevine” coaches might be willing to loosen a bit, especially with Primo’s pick despite the odds. I would be curious why.
A GM and a coach have to work together on a roster, so it's doubtful both that Ainge would foist him on Hardy, or that Hardy would want anything to do with him.

and yet were the worst defensive team in the league, gave up the highest shooting percentage, 3 point percentage... something has to give
either all these good defenders somehow couldnt work together, or maybe they just werent that good of defenders
Do you know how tanking works ?

Do you know how tanking works ?
yes. front offices deliberately build teams that cant win
giving guys like Langford minutes certainly helps

i dont think they were capable of playing great defense
players dont tank and play like shit on purpose, because they're playing for their careers, their next contracts, etc. tanking is done by management which assembles a roster not designed to win, and with a coach who will sit players strategically to decrease the chances of winning. or play scrubs like langford to increase the chance of losing

The Spurs were capable of playing better than some of what I noticed. I can give an example. I don’t recall details like the date or opponent, but I clearly recall what the Spurs did.
Zach Collins was in at center. I’m not certain of our guard but let’s say it was Tre, for the sake of discussion. With the Spurs on defense, the opponent ran a simple center screen for their guard, the standard play you see all the time.
Collins switched. He chased the opposing guard out to the arc. It left Tre guarding the opposing center. The center rolled, their guard hit him with a pass, and he scored. A seven footer rolling against Tre, well yeah, I would hope.
I expected Pop and the coaches to yell at Collins for switching, really give him an earful. But, nothing, that I could tell. Hm.
Later, the exact same thing happened again. The screen, Collins switched, their center rolled against the Spurs guard and scored.
I caught on.
The Spurs were playing “high draft pick“ defense. Now, Collins and Tre were both hustling, playing hard, but the defense was done in a way that gave the opponent a big mismatch to take advantage of.
At a casual glance, it would have just looked like the opponent was better. That was not the whole story. I think the Spurs defense should be significantly better this season, even with the same personnel.

It was clear at some point Pop totally and deliberately ignored defense, during practices and games. That was the tanking here.

really not understanding the cope. dont have to fall in love with bottom of the roster players on a 22 win team :lol
there were a lot of bad players on the team. some of them, like branham/wesley, have a lot of room for growth. some of them like langford, graham have been around long enough to know that they simply arent good players.
and some of them, like keldon/tre are probably fine nba players who were simply asked to be more than they are (a leading scorer, a starting point guard)
this wasnt secretly a very good roster that intentionally underperformed. it was a bad team. they werent a playoff team with dejounte, and they didnt get immediate help when they dealt him away either.

He might salvage the rest of his career in China or Europe if he can't cut it in Utah, which I'm not sure he can.

I always liked him. I thought he would last a season or two in Utah. Rule of three teams not wanting you usually means it’s time to change jobs or continents.

Injured too often for someone who was never more than a role player at best.
Wish him well overseas
