Tall vet point guard ( takes pressure off everyone bringing the ball up or trying to get into sets ) can shoot & distribute. Beno Udrah type….

The assumption was he would be bought out originally but who knows, maybe they keep him around. I have not kept up with the guy recently, is he done or does he still have some gas in the tank? My guess is they do buy him out after a bit for the roster spot and keep moving with Tre as the back up at point.

ROMAIN SATO, Kori Ellis and timvp used to go on about how his wing span was 8 feet 11 inches and then he disappeared

I don’t think he ever plays a minute let alone stabilize the bench.

If I had to guess I’d say Satoransky is probably on his way back to Europe. He played some for the Pelicans earlier in the season, with rather poor results. Since Jan. 3 he’s been inactive/DNP, except for playing in one game where he did not score, altho he had 5 assists in 19 min. At age 30 he probably lacks the potential the Spurs are looking for.

Not great but serviceable is what I was speaking to for the spurs. Pop likes this guy obviously and states he can play so who knows!

Meh...
I think the team needs a backup point who's stronger than Tre, but it won't be Sato. Maybe one of those 8 draft picks upcoming.

I always like Tre, very composed and has a knack on getting to the rim. And those mid-range is money.
Re: Sato, it only helps his cause to continue playing. 30 is not old and can still contribute for a contender. I know teams are high on Dragic, but I can see other contenders can use Sato as insurance PG

You might be right. Sato may just need to be in a particular system with minimal expectations ( I.e ball handling / playmaking, defense )

Just play the young guys. If we win, great; if not, greater.

Yeah nah. Would rather not see this guy get any minutes. Tre deserves the shot to see what he can do with the minutes and the Spurs need to see if there is anything there worth keeping.

I like Tre, but it seems like teams are defending us better and better when he's in the game. Improving his three point shooting should help, because teams are starting to sag off of him quite a bit until he tries to get close to that 15 -18 foot range.
Backup point and adding that elusive long wing feel like the two areas we could upgrade most next summer. Having Murray, now, as the centerpiece and the attention he's getting might help attract talent to add around him.

I've always liked Satoransky. He is a solid bench player. Smart and plays within himself. He kinda plays like white. Little taller. Ever so slightly better shooter from a stand still but with a slower release. Then worse than white in every way, finishing, midrange, passing etc. I haven't followed him this year, so i don't know if his lost of athleticism is now got to the point that he is unplayable.

Tre has natural BB instincts. I would like to see him develop a 3 point shot, but that's not coming this season.

If Spurs don't see any future in a player then they likely are not playing (see: Thadeus Young).

Tre has improved from last year but he still needs to get quite a bit better before i'd consider the backup PG position "solved"

^^ Agreed, that is why he will likely be the primary backup the rest of this season to see if he progresses. He clearly needs to have some sort of threat to take a three here and there beyond what he is doing now.

I’m hoping Tomas never plays unless covid were to strike again.
