View Full Version : The Next Round of Disgruntled Players

Zion, Lillard, Beal, Mitchell who knows maybe even AD might be on the block in the coming year.
This has never been our forte as an organization. If anything we’ve been on the short end of player empowerment and outright fuckery but it’s undeniable that we are building draft capital, are positioned to build more draft capital (given our cap flexibility) and hold a treasure chest of young players and potentially appealing or useful contracts (Jak, JRich and to a lesser extent McDermott). At some point we probably need to consolidate all of the above.
I’m not advocating for any of the above potentially disgruntled players per-say but we are going to be well positioned to make a move if and when AS talent inevitably becomes available.

With Pop possibly retiring after this season as well, it's going to get interesting.

Agree on Williamson. I could see it this off season considering there's clearly a ready made trade to be had, involving Randle, Quickley, some combination of picks/swaps, possibly Grimes (I could see them haggling) and maybe the Pelicans force them to take Graham.

Zion is clearly cut from the Durant - Harden - Brick mold. Inherently selfish egotistical cunts but they can ask for the house for him. He’s clearly got a shit ton of talent.
Although I think he self implodes and ends up spending half his career “injured”.

Murray if Pop sends all the draft picks to G league. Well unless Spurs sign a couple of high level players to help him out but Spurs aren't a prime destination for those type of player signings
All joking aside I don't see Murray as a lifer unless Spurs FO can convince him to stay with building a competitive team because Murray is the type that wants to be compete and staying in mediocrity would make him very restless.

Yeah Beal's nerve issues scare the shit out of me when it comes to offering a max contract. Especially when they have dropped his three point shooting percentage to 30.0% this year, which is worse than both Murray and White. Nothing like signing a three point shooter who all of a sudden can't shoot threes. I wonder if they'll cause him to exercise that option and hope he can land a four year max deal from someone this year just on his name.

Beal's nerve problems might make him sign anywhere willing to offer him a four year max deal after the season he just had.

He appears very humble and quite generous. Things have gone off track at the early stages but why do you say this? Also Durant in a relative sense is fairly admirable. Shows up for work, is a good teammate. Wins.

Honestly I'd throw money at Zach LaVine in the offseason. We have some young guys that can play the 2 so I'm not trading any kind of capitol right now for a 2. Now if we want to go the DeAndre Ayton route or something in FA then OK maybe make a move for that third star. But keep in mind at this point I'm pretty sure Poeltl expects to be a starter on this team. So if we draft our center of the future or pick up a FA either they come off the bench for a while or Poeltl will have to be traded at some point.

Lavine isn’t near disgruntled and there is no amount of money to throw at Lavine that gets him here unless he really gets to a bad place with the Bulls.

Mitchell is probably the only one for me. Lillard's age crosses him off the list. Zion is on track to be a bust. I love AD's talent. Easily the best big man in the game, but he's made of glass. Not to mention that if he bolted New Orleans I'm not sure what would keep him in San Antonio.
It feels like if we were a little further along, and just missing that star to put us in championship contention, acquiring the spoiled malcontent would be a reasonable route. If we do it sooner we'll be stunting the growth of these young guys. That said, we'll probably need to add a piece to pair with Murray soon otherwise he might join the disgruntled list in a year or two.

These guys on the list OP started this thread with, I would not be interested in pursuing. Lillard and Beal are older than I would want for the money it would take and both may be at the beginning of decline. Mitchell? Maybe but he is a guard so bringing him in means you ship out guards in hopes of getting a good 3 or 4. AD? He never did anything for NO and is made of glass. Zion, or at least who Zion is supposed to be would be a great fit but sadly, he is like a combination of AD and Nephew, and not in a good way.

What position do you think Lavine plays? He’s 6’5”, and a SG.

Not that JJ Redick is the end all, but if this message is correct:

This thread is also a discussion in our ability and willingness to pursue the next disgruntled player and not just debating who is up next.
we are going to be well positioned if someone becomes available and can comfortably overpay as required.

I stopped listening to JJ years ago. He got a 20mm pay day from Philly, flamed out and now just talks to anyone about anything. Hate to use this term but JJ is a clout chaser and his opinions mean less and less every podcast he does.

If JJ says 2 and 2 is 4, that is still correct math.
Zion seems like a mega slacker and/or something seriously wrong is going on.

I knew a few people close to the pels through a bank I use that would bring me to games there and put me either Courtside or in their box. My understanding was AD didn't really have a problem with the Nola market, his problem was with Demps inability to build a contender around him. That doesn't mean he'd have SA on his radar but I don't think he'd necessarily exclude us if we could show him how we'd surround him with talent.
Mitchell and AD would be who I'd pursue from the list in this thread.

Yeah, Giannis was just the first one that came to mind, lol. Is AD even a top 5 big man talent in the league anymore? I'm not too sure, tbh, and his constant injuries are just the cherry on that shit-stained top.

I'd put a healthy AD near the top, when healthy, but he's never healthy.
Certainly Giannis and Jokic would be considered 1 and 2...or 2 and 1. Sorry, I didn't really think through my post other than the fact I don't like AD and don't want him on the Spurs. :lol But yeah, there are at least a couple of guys who'd rate higher in the big man category.

They have alumni nights in Austin that honored DJ, White, Keldon, and Lonnie. The NBA guys buzz up on off days to support the current rookie(s), and understand the value of assignments there, even if our dumbass fan base doesn’t.

one good thing about having our GLeague team only an hour away is the NBA players can have close relationships with the GLeague players. It also helps that the organization encourages it and even creates it.

I don't know what has happened to him. I thought he finally turned the corner when the Lakers won that bubble championship, but not sure what has happenend since as I don't watch the Lakers much (when people were starting to say he was better than TD after that ring, I kinda got mad, trashed him and haven't looked back since). A few years ago before the Spurs traded Kawhi, I told a friend if I could do a 1 to 1 swap, AD is the only player in the league I would do it for and be happy with that trade. I didn't want Embiid, I didn't want Giannis or any of those other guys. AD had the talent to be the best player in the NBA, but doesn't seem to have the mentality. His body also doesn't seem to hold up. Having said that, I'd still take a chance on him.

I wouldn't spend big money on anyone that isn't an All-NBA player or soon-to-be All-NBA younger than 26, tbh.
Your Lilliards and Beals and even ADs BARELY move the needle more than Dejounte. Even Demar, who is playing lights out, is still fool's gold when the time comes. I wouldn't get too over the moon about anyone available, tbh.

the thing with AD is you could actually play him at the 4 with Poeltl at the 5. The defense would be amazing for the 40 games AD plays every season :lol
