Spurs Injuries: Romeo Langford - Questionable (Groin), Doug McDermott - Questionable (Right Knee Soreness)

Grizzlies Injuries: Dillon Brooks - Out (Ankle), Brandon Clarke - Questionable (Eye), Yves Pons - Out (Thigh), John Konchar - Out (Ankle)

I like them to continue tanking, but I like to see a competitive game. I like to see Lonnie continue to have a strong game, Zollins getting quality looks. I think Spurs match evenly with the Griz. Spurs by 4pts. Go Spurs Go! :flag::flag::flag:

Not sure where you cut and paste from but it’s seldom accurate. McD and Langford are questionable.

Jak, DJ and Keldon are playing per multiple sources.

Ja Morant gonna go for 50 and the Spurs will be lucky if they lose by less than 15 tbh. Memphis is on a roll right now and always has our number these days for some reason.

Grizzlies favored by 8.5. Sounds about right. They managed to lose at home to Portland last week and the no-Murray Spurs hung in there in Miami, but the Grizzlies are the much better team.

Grizz have won 5 straight with a few of those absolute beat downs. Ja has busted DJ’s ass every chance he has gotten last few years.

This current Spurs team is so hard to predict. Also Pop throws games for no reason. One day he is tanking the next pushing for a play in.

Minnesota was able to beat them a few days ago with a torrid shooting display in the fourth from D'Lo Russell...

I expect the Spurs to hang with them for awhile until ultimately the deluge of conceded offensive boards becomes a little too much.

In other news, wasn't Denver granted a season-ending injury exemption for MPJ? He's slated to return in March.
The playoffs this year are going to be weird, there could be a few upsets if certain teams return to health. Not sure I'd want to face a healthy Nuggets team in the first round if you're the Grizz... (Currently #3, Denver #6)

Murray/Vassell is a good length defensively. But yup Ja would pick that. It’s the 2nd help of McD/Keldon that is too short that forces Poeltl to overhelp and leaves his man. But let’s see if Devin’s length can at least slow Ja down a bit.

JJJ >>> Keldon is also a big mismatch down low though.

Cacok and Langford are out. Could have possibly used Cacok tonight. Dudes a beast and the Grizz have some tough big guys. Cacok wasn't all that bad last game 4 points 6 rebounds 3 assist 2 steals in 13 minutes.

Grizz have the third best record in the entire league 62 games in, pretty impressive.

Unfortunately his current go to move is the elbow pull up jumper. He is unable to consistently shoot a pull up 3 or attack the rim. He needs to develop these to go to the next tier.

Jesus, is Ja Morant insane. What a talent. There's still an undeniably clear gap between DJ and him... Can DJ close it in the coming years? I'm sure he sees him as a rival, so it'll be fun to see the development there. I want a close loss tonight for the tank, and a standout game from both. Can't get much better than a back-and-forth in the 4th...

Yeah Ja is absolutely insane, but I think DJ can get there in a very different way, it helps immensely that DJ is elite on the other side of the ball, that is huge.

Yeah, I agree, but on the other hand; on such an offensively-centered league as the NBA, the offensive disparity between both ends up standing out significantly more than the defensive gap between them. IMO, it's still much more feasible for DJ to up his offensive game than it is for Ja to up his defensive one, but even then, there's a fluidity to Ja's game that DJ has no chance of replicating, it's born-with.

A battle for years to come, for sure.

I agree when talking about the Spurs, but if he leaves and goes to his home town Philly or anywhere and gets a change of scenery you don't think he can help a team? I just can't picture a 27 year old Lonnie being the same old Lonnie we know, he still has tremendous upside at 23 years old. Shit Chris Duarte is a 24 year old rookie.

Why are you picking on Tre? You could literally say the same thing for about 9-10 Spurs players.

I thought my comment might garner this reaction. Too lazy/busy to change it. Not what I meant tho.

Tre is not good enough to be a real backup player in this league yet. He really can't shoot, not explosive or decisive enough to be really effective.

Ja..... that one I meant towards the whole team. From the last guy on the bench to DJ to Becky to Pop to Ownership. Ja is just ascending in the Association right now. He's got the explosive game. The refs worship him and are protecting him. We are a shitty team.

That is the difference between a superstar in Morant and an “all star” like Murray. You win championships with all stars. Murray might have his one day against Morant when it matters but he is just going to be one of those players who owns the Spurs for over a decade.

I mean picking Zion over Ja was behind stupid. I said it then and I say it now. You just don’t choose the fat 6’6 tweener over the generational point guard. This game is built for players who are able to get in the paint and shoot. It’s funny but this game (and every game really that Ja plays) shows the difference between him and DJ. The dude just is able to get to the rim at will and attack and break down defenses at will. This is why I want a PG in the draft. I don’t know if Ivey will ever learn to shoot but that’s who I hope we pick. A guy who is fearless in the paint and can just attack all the fucking time at the rim.

Ivey, as much as I like him, is not the same talent Ja was coming out of college (though Ivey’s younger than Ja was when he declared). Ja is legit a generational talent at the PG position. He would’ve been the consensus #1 overall pick in pretty much any other draft.

Memphis is clearly the better team and should beat the Spurs most nights on the road. That being said, I felt Memphis got EVERY fucking bounce to go their way last night. Late shot clock three from 40 feet out from mediocre 3 point shooter? Swish. Loose ball falling to Memphis player instead of a breakaway for the Spurs? Full court nonsesne shot to end the half? Dunk of the year (has anyone checked to see if Jakob is dead btw?)? 10-0 run at the end of the 3rd after a bad quarter?

Part of that is the fact they are better and part of it is that Ja is just fucking magic, but also part of it is just a night where things go your way. Spurs could have hit some more shots, but on the whole I thought they played pretty well on the road and were unlucky. They're simply not good enough to beat a team like Memphis when everything goes the other teams way.

No way you'll ever win if you can't rebound after a miss.

I'm starting to feel the same way. Like many people here, I wanted him to get "real NBA experience" and selfishly just wanted to watch him play more against the best competition.

But the result is that he is only getting 15 MPG when he could be getting 30 MPG in Austin, and he's mostly playing off ball instead of leading the action. He's shown occasional flashes, but it's pretty obvious that he is not ready at this point to come in and command the game...so is being in San Antonio REALLY helping his development?

Hard to say. Certainly a much higher level of competition by staying on the varsity squad, but yeah, I see the advantage of being "the guy". Heck, we're seeing that impact of being the go-to guy on players like Murray now that DeRozan is gone. But to your point, Murray certainly wasn't ready to take that leap early on in his career.

And, at least Murray had that centerpiece experience in college. Primo didn't even have that.
