They may not have a choice. I am guessing their leaders view the prospect of a catastrophic default with some glee, as an economic MAD. Despite the fact that Texas' economy is bigger.
Russian economic counter moves are going to go about as well as their fucktarded invasion.

I thought they defaulted in 1997, nearly taking the market down with them when options traders using the Black-Scholes equation found out how fucked their hedging strategies became with the volatility no longer quadratic (I think was quadratic, I forgot the exact approximation used to simplify the PDE for option value into the Black-Scholes Equation).

They weren't a big economy to begin with. That might soften the blow some, but still...

They could always sell their fine military equipment to…. nvm.
But I hear that the scrap metal market is booming, so there is that.

You think the economy will tank? Get it? Tank?

If Russia's economy goes into a depression then we are definitely headed for a global recession.
People talk about how Russia is only 2% of GDP but it's an important 2% by nature because of the oil, gas and raw materials they export. Less energy and more inflation is bad news.

Just a matter of time until the world's largest oil producer (that'd be the US) ramps up more oil production...

...glory hallelujah, El, but I don't see that happening. He'd have to stipulate to being wrong, changing his mind, giving into us "chumps" who voted for President Trump, eating his own do-do. The problem is (timing) as well...we're stuck with this guy for another 3 years, even if he doesn't make it all the way, she'll refuse to pump anymore as well.
He will cut off his nose to spite his face in this instance.
He is a bitter man; Trump ate his lunch coming/beating Clinton and going/shitting on his faux Presidency, he's stacked 600,000 dead American bodies of his own to COVID, no end in sight, inflation up the wazoo, and now he has handcuffed himself so he doesn't get them nuked over there by kicking Putin's ass off the European continent. And there sits Putler, I mean Putin sticking his tongue out at him, pushing his face in it every-single-day.
And the kicker, El? I can empathize with the man, we all can. We've all been bent over that fence, and absolutely incapable of doing a fucking thing about it. The key, El, the key is to learn as young as you can to precaution your ass out of those situations, so you're not bent over like this. He didn't do that. He let his mouth overload his ass.

When State run media FOX indicts Biden with the actual proof by throwing it in his face when it's actually taking place I'll stipulate in broad daylight. Not until.

You know what I'm referencing, something like this outta FOX...
"Biden Changes Tune, Okays Domestic Pumping to Bring Down Prices."
White House spokesperson Jen Psaki this afternoon informed reporters at the White House that the President is ordering immediate domestic pumping for oil to assist in bringing down the cost for Americans at the pump. She refused to take questions and immediately left the podium after the terse announcement. @FOX. 2022., all rights reserved.

Still time to vote.
IMF pegged it at -8.5% in Apr.
We get to soon see what another quarter of sanctions have done (report due to be released JUL 26):

officially, it was two percent or so. (no one believes that)
Thinking the IMF guess was close to right, approx 8% with another slide this year as the sanctions grind away at GDP.
