View Full Version : Could Mo Bamba start alongside Jakob? "Twin Towers 2.0"

Mo is very mobile for a big and can stretch the floor with his 3pt shoot. Averaged almost 2 blocks per game in his 1st time being a full time starter this past season. I believe it could work if you start both together, then kind of stagger them the rest of the game. Small ball stagger with KJ, Big ball stagger with Collins and have Landale as your 3pt specialist as needed. Get rid of KBD and add Mo.

Starters:
DJM, Vassell, KJ, Mo, Jakob
2nd Unit:
Tre, J. Rich, Primo, Sochan, Collins
3rd Unit:
Procida, Jalen W., Mc D, Landale

You can add Romeo are whomever in as the 15th player to round out the 3rd Unit. LW4 is not resigned. I figured we pick Sochan with the 9th Pick, Jalen Williams with the 20th, Procida with the 25th and hopefully another PF/C prospect with the 38th pick (2-way contract).

Not mobile enough.

Damn it, no. No Bamba, no Ayton. Keep Poeltl or draft his replacement. Don't trade him for a first and then think paying some cast-off more money makes the team better. I was a big Bamba stan during his draft, and I'm happy he's sort of put it together this past year. But no.

Can't really play them together but I'd love to get Mo.

Ayton too fwiw

Okay. There is this weird love thing for Mo Bamba. First of all, Magic are likely giving up on him. They'll likely drafting a big, they have carter jnr and Isaac. So essentially the worst team in the nba see him as a 4th big on their roster.

Spurs talk not only want him but want to start him and replace our center for him?

If you notice, this board falls in love with University of Texas bigs. Doesn't matter how marginal they are, they're on the verge of greatness and we gotta have them.

How did he actually play this season? Did he have a career year or something? If one of the worst teams in the NBA is willing to let him go, not sure he's a player I'd really want.

we had Duncan and Robinson ... no other duo playing with the Spurs should ever be named Twin Towers ...

Comparing TD & DR with Poetl & Mamba... Brutal.

He is the thing. What was the ideal outcome for Mo Bamba? Like what were people expecting him to be? A Brook Lopez on offensive with Ibaka like defensive? He is like half of those guys strenghts with all these weaknesses. He has a game where he hits four 3's, gets his boards and get a few blocks. And you look at his stat line an you're like 16, 10, 3. Wow. Great. Next 5 games it's 5,5,0.

Don’t agree with OP regarding twin towers but Mo Bamba is an interesting RFA if Jak is moved and could be a cheaper replacement with Jak costing 15-20mm next off season. Right now you can probably get a decent return for Jak instead of paying him.

The argument that one of the worst teams in the league is potentially moving on from him so he must be garbage is weak. It is less that they are giving up on Bamba and moreseo that he just doesn’t make sense given a crowded frontline:

- Chet, Smith or PB are about to be drafted
- Already paid WCJ last off season
- Issaac is about to return after two full years and they have already paid him (he has little trade value currently)
- Bol Bol is a cheap option and also an RFA
- Franz was an absolute draft day steal last year (@Dejounte nailed it) and is very capable of playing the 4

Unlike our RFA, Bamba will actually be a useful S&T asset for the Magic. Few teams
can outright offer him >MLE so just north of that is probably his market value if signing outright. If the Magic were to work an S&T they probably ask for some combo of a young player with upside, draft capital or another trade chip.

Like us, the Magic have cap space and very few realistic free agency targets. The Magic do STUPID things. They drafted Suggs even with Fultz and Cole Anthony in the roster.

More like Twin Towers .02

You do realize that the twin towers were both amazing on offense right? Like all time greats at it. On top of being all time greats defensively. Poeltl and Bamba are neither. So no don’t get two shitty centers and start them next to each other

@ATLSpur already dubbed Jak/Zollins the TwinTowers 2.0.

I would rather target Isaac. Better fit in a position of need. Buy low coming off ACL surgery. Two seconds and a role player could do it. He would be a good fit next to DJ

I don’t subscribe to OP’s view but Bamba probably has more upside on offense than most ppl think. Nice touch from outside, easy rim rolling target and capable clean up guy. All he has to do is set screens and get fed for 15 a game from DJ.

I don't think Twin Towers work in this era. I mean, maybe if you have Tim and David in their primes because they were mobile bigs that could switch and having two guys that can guard the paint would be interesting to see repeated. But in this day and age, most 4s are really just 3s that can shoot 3s and play defense. And the big guy is more of a token player unless he is a generational star like Jokic or Embid.

in place of Poeltl, sure, but not both of them at the same time imo

we should sign Mo and Bam, and do a triple tower SL imo

I wouldn't pay crazy money for Bamba but if we could get him for something reasonable then I'd happily toss Poeltl in the bushes for him.

We need a big who isn't scared to death of the ball on offense and spends most of the season making over 40% of their free throws. Bamba fits that description. Poeltl does not.

Also after this season its going to be time to either lose Poeltl for nothing or pay stupid money for a guy who is going to go his entire nba career never making a shot outside the free throw line

He just made a half court buzzer beater this season.
