Lonnie looks good on a highlight reel, shitty in an actual game. He's like the guard version of Drummond there.

Kevin Durant wasn't on the market then. Something tells me the Spurs are calling about him. They're willing to give up all of those first round picks to get KD for 4 years.
He was a risk to actually sign it because there’s no market for him above the MLE
Goodbye, have fun with the Knicks or somewhere like that chucking and playing no defense

The Spurs seem to REALLY want cap space. Rushing the Gallo trade and dumping Walker. They have an easy max slot for some reason.

I must be the only one here who liked lw-4 and hoped the spurs would keep him…
do NOT understand why so many here are throwing him under the bus- he was not a perfect player and could be frustrating to watch sometimes because he flashed real talent and then regressed.
but overall he is not a bad piece to have off of the bench
smh
hmmm. did the spurs suddenly need cap space?

Yeah, something is afoot. Not sure what but something is happening.
You don't give Walker the QO for a few hours during a time when he couldn't even sign it unless there's something going on. Also, they could have kept Jock and possibly saved money by not finalizing the Dejounte trade until the 6th.
Why are they suddenly frantic about clearing cap space? Hmmmm.....

Did they really need to do the Murray trade so soon to get a Westbrook deal?
I assume that McDermott would be headed back to LA at least in the deal, then they'd only need to clear like 33.5 or so to absorb RW

Maybe we're renting out our cap space to help facilitate a KD trade. That's what I'm hoping for at least.

It could be as benign as they were hoping to see if his market was something below the QO so they could preserve him. But Shams says there is “strong” interest (we’ll see!) so maybe they said nah.

$47M. Wow
At least a couple unprotected picks that are likely to be lotto ones AND at least another unprotected pick swap, or two.
That would be putting us in contention for down the road.

The ONLY thing remotely in that vein that I think they would even consider would be Ben Simmons. Everyone has been talking about Kyrie, and Durants recent trade request, and no one’s even mentioned Simmons.
Maybe Marks called in a favor. He may need to use SA to get rid of Durant in a three team deal.

I assume the QO was out there because the spurs probably thought there was more than a 0% chance that Lonnie wanted to play here and they could sign him in case all their plans fell through and his agent probably called them and said remove that shit there is 0% chance Lonnie is coming back to SA we already got a deal somewhere else.
People getting there hopes up about this and instantly waving Gallo mean the spurs have some move up there sleeve but no its just typical SA incompetence
Brian Wright talking about "the way the draft went" like they didn't purposely target guards to replace Lonnie a week ago:lol

Why would KD come over to play with a bunch of G league players? With no intention of winning a title anytime soon? I thought by the DJ move this team was in full rebuild mode.

But is there any big signing(s) that could still be expected? I speculated the other day that the Spurs could simply trade DJ for the best haul, trade Poeltl, rent cap space and not sign any big names. But somehow it’s too quiet, it’s deftening. Poeltl is still not moved. Why reject a young position of need player like Okongwu? Are the picks for us or for another team’s demands to release a targeted player? And Wright said, our trades are both for the future and now. That sounds the Spurs will still contend, but will align with our youth in the long-term. It would have to be a young enough caliber player. A trade of Poeltl plus picks for Ayton? Maybe Simmons? One could hear that motor quietly working. Something big is still up.

I’ve been wondering the same thing. It’s interesting that Lavine hasn’t signed yet with the Bulls. Not that I’d want them to do it, but I’m curious want it would take to make Lavine and Durant work on the spurs

We have 35-39mm in cap so we can sign Lavine at the max outright which starts at 36.6mm.
JRich, McBooger, Jak is 35mm so add some combo of Zollins, Keldon, Primo, Vassell and you can get the math to work to get near KD’s 44mm.

When you’re the cap facilitator, you have to wait on the major players to sort out their trade, then get in there with your own wants and needs. That takes time. If you haven’t heard anything by the 15th, then worry. We’re not even out of the moratorium period yet.

Spurs likely are NOT signing any FAs of note. DJ and Lonnie were draft picks out to offset 3 new draft picks in. We’re still developing and home growing until we hit the winning ticket again.
