View Full Version : [2022-2023 Season] Predict how many points each player will average

In 2021-2022, the Spurs had the following players as the top scorers on the team and they let them go after the season ended:

DeMar DeRozan - 22 ppg, 7 apg
Patty Mills & Rudy Gay - 11 ppg

That Spurs team averaged 111 points per game for the season.

When they were let go, some godawful takes were made on ST from your usual suspects about how the team would not be able to replace the scoring lost by those three (they literally added 22 + 11 + 11 and said the team’s total scoring per game would be reduced by that amount… dumbass).

What did the 2021-2022 Spurs team average in points for the season? 113.

The scoring production increased. It was picked up by Murray, Keldon, Vassell, among others.

Place your predictions here on how many points you think each player will average for the season.

Here are mine:

Keldon Johnson - 22 PPG
Devin Vassell - 17 PPG
Poeltl (if he stays) - 13 PPG
McDermott - 12 PPG
Primo - 12 PPG
Tre - 10 PPG
Collins - 10 PPG
Sochan - 9 PPG
Branham - 5 PPG

first question i have..is keita bates diop still on our team? do we plan to keep him, i'm not sure about his status.

i don't even know who's all on the team or who will be on the team. honestly this thread would be better during the pre season at least to have an idea who's still on the team.

but either way its still fun to guess.

VASSELL - 24 PPG (i think he's going to separate himself from the rest and be borderline all-star)
JOHNSON - 17 PPG
POELTL - 14 PPG
PRIMO - 10 PPG
MCDERMOTT - 10 PPG
COLLINS - 9 PPG
SOCHAN - 9PPG
TRE JONES - 8 PPG
KEITA BATES - 7PPG (Will have a 40pt game randomly this year)

I think we have no one over 20ppg avg. But I think vassell will get the closest

This will be an exciting thread to watch.

I'm going to leave final predictions until roster is completely settled but think at this stage, the top 3 scorers will be KJ (18 - 20), Vassell (15 - 17) and Primo (14 - 16).
I can absolutely see scenarios where Tre Jones and Malaki Branham average double digits per game too.

Will update at the end of July...

OP should bump before the start of the season...we don't even know who will or won't be on the team this season yet

Let me add an assumption for this game then that the roster will mostly be the same. Sheesh. It’s simple. Play or don’t play.

If that's the case, we are going to have one of the all-time worst records, not just bad.

Meant to quote this for the above post

Spurs average 110 per game.

Keldon - 20
Vassell - 15
Portal - 12
Primo - 10
Sochan - 10
Collins - 10
Branham - 10
Jones - 10
KBD - 8
Non-rotation players - 5

Gonna assume McDermott and Richardson are traded for picks. I think Poeltl will be shipped to but for the purpose of this exciting exercise he stays.

We might see three Spurs in the Rising Star Challenge this year with Primo, Sochan and Brahnam tbh

Primo is gonna make a big jump and be a candidate for MIP but will lose because the Spurs record will be less than perfect.

Primo - 23
Keldon -22
Vassell - 20

Also worth noting… throwing up PPG estimates for the roster and adding them all together does not reflect overall PPG. These guys will be injured/resting and won’t always be competing with each other for points. Seems to be some confusion in this thread.

I think Keldon will probably be the leading scorer. I'm hopeful Devin takes that next step and is a close second.

This. If you add up all the Spurs players' PPG last year you get 178.3. Even removing players who played fewer than 15 games only lowers it to 168.4.

https://www.basketball-reference.com/teams/SAS/2022.html

It makes sense when you think about it. Say your team averages 105 PPG, then at the trade deadline you trade your entire team and the new team averages 105 PPG. The sum for the season will be 210 PPG if you just sum PPG over the whole list.

Derrick White averaged 14.4 PPG in 30.3 MPG in his 49 games with the Spurs, and Josh Richardson averaged 11.4 PPG in 24.4 MPG. Whoever gets those minutes almost certainly isn't going to average 25.8 PPG.

Even just adding up the averages for the players that started the season on the team would overstate things because players miss games due to injury/rest/etc. If half your team is injured and the healthy half averages 105 PPG for a while, then the players switch places (injured players recover, healthy players get hurt) and the team averages 105 PPG again, you'll still get a total of 210 for the season.

Looks like I might be the only one with any hope for Langford. Board is probably right, tbh. But he looked really good in one or two of his games he got to play in last year, and I have hopes he might be able to be a contributor with some pop tutelage.

Some shot creation needs to come off the bench, and Primo looks like he can provide that. He’d fit great in a Manu-type role off the bench.

Keldon - 20
Devin - 15.5
Primo - 14.5
Jak - 12.5 before being traded
JRich - 9.5 before being traded
Doug - 9
Tre - 9
Zach - 9
Sochan - 7
Roby - 7
KBD - 7
Bran - 6

Won't predict Blake because I think he'll mostly be in the G-league. Spurs average under 110 per game.

Makes sense with all the Manu<>Primo mentoring going on.

It just makes perfect sense for Primo to come off the bench, allowing Keldon/Vassell to be the primary scorers in the starting line-up. Primo is much needed in the 2nd unit than not having enough touches in the 1st. But I would expect him to close the game as he gets better, and even start if ever they find themselves in the playoffs ;)

Spurs will have no all stars so no one gets to 20 points a game.

Spurs will have the worst record in franchise history.
