End of Days for Spurs fans.

We can’t enjoy anything for more than a few hours around here anymore :lol

Haha I knew it. The way Mitch used his words about how well Days has been playing said it all to me. His play was too selfish and I don’t think he was versatile enough for what the Spurs are going for for roster construction. He’s basically a souped up version of Cacok.

Good for him tbh, wasn’t much room for him in the spurs. Wonder who the other 2 way guy will be?

Not surprising tbh. Spurs two ways likely going to Weiskamp and Barlow.

:lol I knew that was coming as soon as he wasn't signed immediately after his last game.

Man I was hoping that Days would get the second two way contract and Weiskamp would get a minimum. Miami knows talent when they see it.
They've had a number of lower end contracts that turned into really decent players. Our front office was slow moving this time. Hopefully there is someone playing just as well in SL that we can sign for the next two way.

Fucking Pat Riley, man. I don't think there has ever been an executive as him when it comes to mining for under appreciated prospects.

Probably found another one. Hope the kid does well in Miami.

Doesn’t bode well for the teams chances in the final game today

Man he will regret this soon… he had the chance to fight for a spot on the storied San Antonio Spurs… Greg Popovich’s last season to boot. He had a legit chance to become part of something special here with the new big three Josh Primo / Devin Vassell / Keldon Johnson.

Enjoy Miami!!!

what was Brian Wright doing in the mean time? Calling the Lakers? Just stupid to not give him a 2-way

Spurs may have other plans.

Spurs have an uncertain roster. Locking up a two-way while they may take on contracts isn't a great idea.

Days looked good but isn't a game breaker.

Spurs may have their eye on one or two other summer league players.

A lot of options. No need to freak.

I wonder if there was intention to sign him

As long as we don't save the spot for Weiskamp a shooter who couldn't shoot last year at 32% from 3

Basically they choose Wieskamph

Weiskamp is not going back on a 2 way after being promoted to the big club at the end of last season.

I've been meaning to ask around about this. Last season, I heard that the Spurs gave Wieskamp that promotion because it was a slight pay boost, made him eligible for the playoffs and they could still convert him back into a two-way after the season. I know he's currently a regular restricted free agent -- but I don't know what the process is of converting him back to a two-way contract. Do they have to pull their regular QO before signing him to a two-way contract or can they do it at any time? Hmm....

Maybe they did, MIA just had a clearer path to a guaranteed contract.

Doesn't make sense, but they may have offered the same and his representation/him might have preferred the Heat, who currently have only Jovic who can credibly play the four.

If not that, then between drafting Sochan and adding Roby (probably to compete with Bates-Diop for a spot) they might have preferred to keep the final two-way open for probably a shooter (Wieskamp, if possible) or a PG.

The qualifying offer is for 1 year guaranteed right? He could just sign it.

Miami signs 22 YO nobody to 2 way, ST melts down.

Who fucking cares? We don’t need pieces. We’ve got those. We need to be stockpiling draft picks, and using them on high upside players to try to find The Guy who can carry us forward.

A loss for the Spurs. The Heat were smart to grab him. He would have fit into a very physical lineup and his 3pt shot making was very impressive. The Spurs will regret this.

Or you could keep him for a bit, continue to grow his game and then get something for him later.

Maybe a stupid question here...but did the Spurs have any rights to him just because he was on their Summer League roster?

I'm guessing not, and if so, it's possible that he fielded multiple 2-way deals or similar offers, and chose another over the Spurs'. He did play pretty well in Summer League even next to some of our top draft picks.

I love SA...but if it's a choice of working in San Antonio or Miami...I'd probably choose South Beach too.

No rights to him. There are players on other teams that can be signed straightaway, too. For example, Luka Garza.

I actually completely forgot about what Timvp mentioned about the Spurs having Udonis Haslem on our summer league team in 2003. That one stings a lot more. I remember telling a friend that we've got this guy (Udonis Haslem) tearing it up in summer league and then the next thing you know, the Heat sign him and he ends up being a very good player for them for years. He would have fit very well on those Spurs teams :(. Not sure if Days will end up being the same level of player, but the Spurs should have given him a two way IMO.

He played for both the Heat and the Spurs in separate summer leagues that year. Believe Heat gave him a better offer.

We still had Malik Rose at that point. Haslem would have been a redundant undersized backup.
