What happens if USC or Texas were to lose?

The ultimate nightmare scenario still exists for the BCS.

USC AND Texas losing this weekend - the games still have to be played, after-all.

1-loss teams all over the place, all wanting a shot; pandemonium.

Texas drops to probably 4th, Penn State goes to the Rose Bowl if Texas loses.

If USC loses, they drop to 2nd, and it's still Texas USC. That is, unless they just get HAMMERED by UCLA.

That's what most of the talking heads think would happen...

i would never watch college football again because it would still be obvious that usc and texas are the best teams

Or better yet, not even win the division within its conference, but still play for the national championship? Or having a one-loss team get picked over another one-loss team that already had beaten them during the season? Or having the country's only major media poll pull out of the BCS because it was hurting their reputation and credibility?

Nobody discusses "nightmare scenarios" because the clowns who run the BCS don't give half a shit about competitive integrity in the first place.

Oh, I forgot the greatest nightmare scenario of all... having the #1 team in the AP and coaches polls finish #3 in the BCS, and thus ending up with a split national championship.

The BCS doesn't work worth a shit in terms of getting the best teams (except in years where there are two undefeated dominant teams and it's blindingly obvious), but hey, the system makes a ton of money while protecting the good-ol-boy system in college football, and that's all the college presidents care about.

I think if either of them lost, it wouldnt matter. The Rose Bowl will be USC vs. Texas. No matter what.

It wouldn't matter if USC loses, they'd still be in the rose bowl. TX wouldn't go with one loss, however.

And yes, I am one of those who did NOT think that the Huskers should have gone to the 02 Rose Bowl...for the record...

If Texas was to lose to Colorado, I think LSU would wind up in the Rose Bowl against Southern Cal. They still have to play #13 UGA while Penn State's regular season is over, and a lot of people that would have backed Texas for winning the XII conference title will back LSU for #2 for beating a top-15 team playing a virtual home game for the SEC title.

I wonder what would have been the setting for the Battle of LA if UCLA has at kept that ass-whooping they got in Tucson respectable. Actually, there's a lot of one-loss teams in position to throw a shitfit.

UCLA (see above),
WVU (only loss to BCS #5 Va Tech),
TCU (nine straight wins after the OU letdown effort against SMU),
Oregon (only loss to USC),
Va Tech (fell apart against BCS #9 Miami),
LSU (won nine straight after fading late in first home game after Katrina against the Rocky Tops),
Penn St (one play - Henne w/ no time left in 4th throws TD for Michigan in Big House, or the Nittany Lions would be spotless)

There's plenty of room for argument if either of the top two lose this weekend.
