Surprised no one has mentioned this yet, considering how slow the off-season is now.
I knew he had cocaine issues coming out of Florida which is why he was drafted so low but this is another layer to the story I suppose.
And on a tangent, it’s great to see that Vernon enjoyed the San Antonio nightlife. Who says San Antonio is boring?! Lol

Maxwell was such a douchebag. I remember reading a story about a kid he had who would go tell everyone Vernon Maxwell is my daddy and he was so proud to be the son of an NBA player but Maxwell wanted nothing to do with him. So one day out of the blue he calls and says he wants to hang out with his son, spend the day with him, and the kid is so excited. Maxwell gets there and all he does is take the kid to get a paternity test (comes back positive) and takes the kid right back home and then exits his life again.
Also LOL Maxwell getting cut in the 95 playoffs because he was so pissed at Drexler getting a bunch of shots that used to go to him.

vernon wanted to be in h-town so much he threw a fit in the 95 season because the rockets were deferring to drexler and so max basically quit on the team. other maxwell highlights included:
February 1995: In a game at Portland on February 6, he ran into the stands punching a fan due to the fan heckling him. The NBA suspended him for ten games and fined him $20,000.
August 1995: Shortly after signing with Philadelphia, Maxwell was pulled over after he ran a red light. During a search, police found a bag of marijuana on the floor of the car. Maxwell pleaded no contest and posted a $25,000 appeal bond, but lost the appeal. Three years later, while Maxwell was playing for the Charlotte Hornets, a Texas judge issued a warrant for his arrest and he was extradited to Houston, where he served a 90-day sentence.
2000: The Seattle SuperSonics fined Maxwell and Gary Payton for a locker-room brawl on March 26, that left two of their teammates, who tried to play peacemakers, hurt.

I image you have a few failed marriages and likely more estranged kids than Maxwell.

Yeah, I shouldn't have said that. Nash doesn't belong in the same sentence as Malone and Kareem at all as a father, but he was a pretty bad husband and fought to not allow his ex-wife to move to California while he was with the Lakers because he would have had to pay more in child support.

I thought that had more to do with his wife having some other dudes kid and Nash not finding out about it until literally the birth when the baby was black. Shout out Richardson. But anyways, his wife wanted his future earnings too which is why he didn’t want her to move to Cali bc he would’ve had to pay her his Lakers money too as part of alimony.

I mean...it's pretty widely known that Karl Malone impregnated a 13-year old girl when he was 20, and then abandoned her and the child.
A quick Google search will tell you everything you need to know.

Steve was cheating at the time too so that relationship wasn't going to last anyway. Wanting his kids to stay in Arizona so he could protect his money was the "not great dad" part, but still not close to what Malone did, which is why I shouldn't have lumped Nash in there.

Not following the timing here. Popvich was just Brown’s assistant coach in 1990 right. What was he doing running FO transactions, or was his role bigger than just a coach back then?
Another tidbit about Max - dude got sued for spreading STDs to women in NC. That’s like 10x worse than punching the Blazers fan or quitting on the Rockets.

Let me guess. You demand her subservience.
Honestly it doesn’t matter. You clearly have issues. It’s rare for you to have a basketball take. Most likely because your real life exists in a political vacuum where nearly every aspect of your existence is defined by political lines. Not lines of your own beliefs because none of you cunts think independently. You hold the torch that’s for sure.
You’re flat out incapable of posting on this forum without obnoxiously spinning it into some idiotic political take. Just stfu and talk basketball. No one and I mean NO ONE wants your politically driven two cents spin.
No one is that absolutist and that dysfunctional without serious social problems. So enough already and contribute like a civilized basketball enthusiast or stop posting.
We’re all tired of you. Your failure to grasp that speaks to just how stupid and ignorant you are.

Lol I was joking about Pop. Karl Malone deserves the scrutiny but for the most part I don’t care what other dudes do in their spare time. I’m not talking Bridges type stuff but 5 years from now if he appears to be a rehabilitated and changed family man I wouldn’t sit here throwing stones. Most here still would.

That doesn't line up with the OP's post unless Maxwell is completely conflating 1990 and 1997. I'm pretty sure Max finished out his 2nd stint here in 1997. Per the internet, Bob Bass was the GM in 1990. Maybe some of our older heads on this board can recall what happened in the 1989-1990 season with Max.

Your hatred is strong, but according to Sean, he and Pop were driving down to the valley to promote the Spurs. I don’t think there’s enough money in an NBA assistant’s salary for random PI hiring.

His end of career stint would have been when Pop was GM, and would have the authority to put him under PI surveillance. Pop was a first year assistant for Max's first tour of duty.

Pop often gets criticized on this forum by a few folks because of his perceived "inaction" in the case of reported adultery within the ranks of the Spurs team. But the criticism never comes with a proposed action that would have been a solution acceptable to his critics. Frankly, if I had been the GM, the owner, or Pop at the time, I would have been in a quandry in looking for a solution at all--much less a perfect solution. After all, people are human and make mistakes. According to statistics about 67% of men 50 something percent of married women commit adultery during their marriage so it isn't something strange within the human condition. And when caught out, it is always embarassing for all parties.
What would the critics have done in this admittedly sticky situation?
In many or most businesses, there would have been an immediate firing because they have rules against even dating within the organization. But what if the employee has such special skills that he or she cannot be replaced without injuring the company, perhaps fatally?
Trading or firing one of the best guards in the NBA would probably have crippled the Spurs at the time and for the foreseeable future. I doubt many teams would have done a value for value trade since they would have smelled blood in the water with the Spurs trying to get rid of Tony. I'd probably have given the option to go or stay to the player with the least impact on the team and hoped for the best outcome for the individuals as they worked things out.
As far as the other players in the locker room were concerned, I suspect each of them got a private talk session to feel them out about their opinions and whether it would affect their play on the court. I doubt it was a serious problem, even for the more religious ones.
