View Full Version : First Movie You Watched at a Theater
For me it was Laser Blast :lol
The next week it was Grease. We only had one per week.

I don't have a clue. I remember watching some of the mid-eighties classics like Goonies and Back to the Future, but I'm sure there were some before that.

Yeah I'm sure we saw that one at the theatre also.

I don't really remember. I saw Return of the Jedi in Frankfurt, but have no recollection of it. I remember more of seeing movies over and over once we got HBO in 1985 when I was 8

I remember very well. We were an old fashioned farm/ranch family and any trip to town was very cool much less going to the theater. The first one which was with the family was The Alamo probably in 1960 or 61 when I was 8 or 9 years old. The first time by myself which was when I was younger than would be allowed today was a few years later maybe mid 60's. The movie was Shane with Alan Ladd. Both great memories.

Yep. I can remember seeing Bambi with some older cousins. After looking at the dates of the re releases, I'm sure it was 1975.
I feel like that wasn't the first movie I'd been to but it's the first I can specifically remember.

A few years back I recall leaving one show and wondering if we could just ease into another one of the shows. It was just a passing thought but it would be embarrassing for an old guy to be evicted from the theater.

I'm pretty sure most movies have assigned seats now, so probably not.

Best cinematic experience ever was T2 though. Don’t think that’ll ever be topped

Same age, I may have been 5. I don’t think my dad realized how violent it was going to be. He said I loved every second of it :lol

I think mine was probably Batman in 89, seeing the logo was just awesome.

Same. It was probably the best time I ever had watching a movie in a theater. I'd probably put Star Wars up there but I really don't remember being blown away like I was in T2.

Jurassic Park was my first “mind blown” theater experience.
Personal favorite theater moment is the collective gasp of shock by all 300-something people seeing the elevator doors open and Leo Dicaprio’s brains get blown out in The Departed.

The Hand that Rocks the Cradle when the bitch gets smacked. Crowd went wild.

I only remember two instances of the whole crowd cheering. One was a movie called Black Stallion. The other was Rocky II.

I may have seen others first but the one that I remember was McKennas Gold. Julie Newmar flashing some boob was a big deal back then

I can agree with this. I remember standing in line at the local theater. We got there half an hour early and the line was already out the door. When they see the dinosaurs for the first time with that score blaring...man what a fucking moment.

Previously posted first two but the third one for which I was dropped off alone in 66 probably at the age of 13 or 14 was "Million Years B.C. which was not much of a movie but Raquel Welch left an impression.

sadly did not get the jurassic park experience in theaters
toy story was technically quite groundbreaking. first pixar film, first fully computer animated film, etc. but i wasnt old enough to really appreciate any of that
seeing avatar in imax 3D was a pretty big "mind blown" experience from a purely visual perspective. i'm aware the story is very played out (dances with wolves/pocahontas in space, etc)... but still remember being infatuated with that movie just because of the visuals/environment
bene gave a nod to pacific rim. one of the more under-appreciated sci-fi/kaiju flicks of all time tbh. the sequel sucked tho

That was the first Chrichton book I read. Then I probably read 6 or 7 more in a row. The movie wasn't bad but I'd have to say not one of the movies was better than the book it was based off of.

As generic as the story was, Avatar is still the greatest 3D experience I've ever had in a theater. And yeah, Pacific Rim 2...J:lolhn B:lolyega...I just saw he's trying to act like he's Denzel in the new movie he is in. Hey John guess what? Denzel doesn't have to act like anyone else because he's himself. Who are you now?
