Ginobili could miss Mavs game

Spurs guard Manu Ginobili could miss Thursday's road game against the Dallas Mavericks, reported Joe Reinagel of KENS 5 Eyewitness News.

Ginobili has a jammed ankle and is questionable for the game. The injury is reportedly not an ankle sprain and the Spurs aren't sure when he hurt it.

True. I just saw that Pop said on the news that he's questionable. He didn't practice today and it's very sore (but not swollen).

Watch Ginobili play and have a big game. With Howard out Ginobili should have a size advantage over Daniels.

start finley, bring ginobili off the bench if he is needed. no reason to risk further injury.

Ginobili isn't playing and Finley will probably be 0 for 10. Wgaf.

There's no probably, it's pretty much definite. Not because he's bad. He just plays like crap in Dallas. The uniform change doesn't matter.

you dork, there are still 2 games here in SA which if Duncan is in the house, your fag mavs have no chance.

Check the column, the Spurs have a better record than the Mavs, so the game is actually a wash.

stfu already.

Actually, the Mavs are a full game behind the Spurs, so I presume everyone knows what that means if the Mavs beat the Spurs tonight; tied for first in the Southwest Division.

Its what I would call a good sized game.

Not a big game.

Not an important game.

But one, that IMO, the Spurs should take more serious, than I would say, if they were playing the Lakers or Hawks.

It would behoove the Spurs to come out and play well.

Parker will prob play more than he did last time, and bring that good defense.

Duncan better be more agressive against defensive stiffs like Dampier and Nowitzki.

If Ginobili doesn't play, this is Michael Finley's shot at redemption.

Hopefully he plays better than the last time he was there.

Although 5 of 12 his last time out against the Lakers isn't encouraging.

I agree. Barry is a better passer and shooter than Finley. Great fit for San Antonio though his age might start catching up with him as well.

Brent Barry > Michael Finley

Barry in the last two games, 2 points on 1-9 shooting

Michael Finley, 22 points on 10 of 22 shooting

Oh yes, I can see how you would say that.....

God get the lemon out of your mouth.

My point exactly. Against Dallas, especially IN Dallas, he's not going to play good, especially if he's starting. Barry would be the better option. Let Barry get some open 3 pointers and it'll spread the floor for Tim to abuse Dirk in the low-post.

Silver and Black should be awake this time around. I would expect to see them come out and get real physical very early on both ends.

I'd like to see Pop extend the defense early and make the Mavs execute under some full court pressure. This will also help the Spurs get into the defensive flow early on and set a tone for the rest of the game.

This is all part of the Zen Popovich thing. Last year, it was Phoenix. He played Manu and Tim big minutes in a home game against NJ and then sat them the next night in Phoenix in a game that the Suns were all amped about winning so they could make a point. Same deal here: the Mavs want to prove that their first win wasn't a fluke, Pop gets over on them by sitting Manu and planting the seed of doubt.

. . . that, or Manu is really hurt and just won't play.

This is as important as any early regular season game can get,(to me EVERY game is important, I don't like the Laker mentality) . The Mavs are one of three teams to beat us so far this year, and this our first rematch against a team that has beaten us, so we know the Spurs will be pumped. I am very interested to see how we play tonight, this game will give us a peak at the teams mentality, as the warrior game did, only against a better opponent. I expect the true fire to come out and for us to dominate them. If they come out and play flat tonight, I will question this teams desire.

BigVee
12-01-2005, 11:54 AM
Right. This game is huge for the Mavs and that is just how Pop wants it. Let them celebrate at midcourt again if that is how it goes. Let their main guys play 40+ minutes if that is what it takes to win. Last game Pop experimented with a small lineup, etc. He is playing these games staight for a time period, then finding out what might work later. Do you think if the Laker game had meant something, he would have left Manu on the bench in the 2nd quarter and left Barry to try and regain his timing? Manu was clearly on his game and still only played 29 minutes. These games may be important for Dec bragging rights, but Pop has something bigger in mind.

I HIGHLY doubt the Spurs are going to dominate this game. I agree w/the take that Pop is simply going to mix in lineups, note what the Mavs are doing, & collect tape to study if they end up playing when it matters.

Oh, and don't give any ideas away about strategies to use against the Mavs when it matters; Avery already knows enough about how Pop thinks.

Manu just posted this in his forum:

Dudosa mi presencia gente!! me duele un poco la gamba, aunque tratare un poco antes del juego a ver como me siento.

Es joven la temporada y no vale la pena arriesgar mucho por mas que sea contra Dallas, si no estoy bien.

Abrazo.

Translation:

I doubt I will play tonight. My leg hurts a little bit, but I'll try before the game and see how I feel. It's early in the season, and it's not worth the risk to play injured, even if we play against Dallas.

Cant_Be_Faded

We don't need Manu to beat Dallas. We need Finley to grow a nutsack and step up against his former team. I don't want to see any Finley Fouls just cuz his man beat him off the dribble either. That will just end up with him on the bench by the middle of the first quarter. What we need is to really really really lock down their point guard, making passes to dirk take up more time on the shot clock.

Ginobili to have MRI on right foot

DALLAS -- Spurs guard Manu Ginobili missed Thursday night's game at Dallas because of a jammed right foot, and Michael Finley made his first start for San Antonio since being waived by the Mavericks.

Coach Gregg Popovich said Ginobili would have an MRI on his foot Friday morning.

"He can't go to his right. It's like a jam under the heel," Popovich said. "There's a lot of pain."

Ginobili hurt his foot in the Spurs' 90-84 victory over the Lakers on Tuesday night. Ginobili, who is averaging 15.1 points per game, scored 15 of his 22 points against Los Angeles after halftime.

Finley was waived Aug. 15 by the Mavericks, who took advantage of a one-time amnesty provision that allowed them to avoid luxury taxes on the $51.8 million owed their captain over three seasons. Finley was a two-time All-Star during his 8{ seasons with the Mavs.

It was the Spurs' second game in Dallas this season. Finley had only two points in 27 minutes in his first game against the Mavs on Nov. 5, a game the Spurs lost 103-84.
