The Spurs badly need new talent in that coaching room, so I'm glad to see them add someone from a still relatively untapped market. Cynically speaking, it's good that it's someone who is less likely to be poached over the next year or two.

KingKev

Agree with Chinook (https://www.spurstalk.com/forums/member.php?u=37557) atleast we know we aren’t training her up on the job just to leave for bigger and better things two years later.

PATFO had a good history of scouting otherwise un-scouted foreign players once upon a time but that competitive advantage became widespread. Next was our scouting of great global basketball minds.

How long till we start scouting WNBA players lol we could use a wing like Juwanna Mann

She may be. or become, the greatest assistant coach in NBA history, but you have to ask the questions about whether her hire was primarily because of her race and gender. Spurs are probably the most woke team in the NBA. Will that make a rat's ass difference in their performance on the court--- or simply signal the moral virtue of Pop, the FO and the owners.

If the hire was for virtue signaling, I'm happy for the Spurs that they can afford her relatively modest salary going forward.

I mean, usually it’s the opposite. All the old white dudes getting by on their connections and staying in the league forever, that’s more likely. As for a supposed diversity hire, when it’s done early on, you actually get the best talent that everyone is overlooking. Was Jackie Robinson a diversity hire? I mean, Becky and Dupree appear to be very good coaches.

Name an NBA coach with a greater coaching legacy or league-wide influence. Former Spurs’ players, coaches and FO personnel pepper this entire league. Pop’s influence on the league is unmistakable, but you’re welcome to attempt to dismiss it.

In your opinion. He did coach with Pop for the USMNT for the Tokyo Olympics.

The only coach I’ve outright rejected that has been said to be tree of pop was Doc Rivers, because he neither played for, or coached under Pop. He was a Spurs player for two years under Bob Hill.

I’m not sure why that’s the case. Kerr himself admitted to regularly reaching out to pop for advice (and kfc), he won two titles under pop, he was pops assistant in the Olympics, even his son works in the spurs film room. It’s pretty natural to include him as part of pops coaching tree, which is why he is included in all the articles that I’ve read discussing pops coaching tree.

Hopefully, the all-star class for team tank.

On the contrary, despite the record, this group seems to be connecting very well with the group’s development, Sochan one-handed FT which is a revelation plus his PG duties, Branham ballhandling and likewise playing point guard, Keldon/Vassell acting as go-to scorers as they should be, Zollins playing well, Stanley find a home (hopefully). I’m sure all of which had to do with Coaching (on top of the player buying in). Easily with the loses, players start to be careless, not playing D, chucking ill-advised shots, which I don’t really see from our players. So yeah, great job with this ensemble imo.

I don't think he hit Jordan with one punch he pretty much got wrecked - and Yes Kerr can be a little bitch sometimes

The story changed over the years to build up jordan. When it first came out phil Jackson allowed Kerr to pull all kinds of rough borderline dirty plays on jordan to level the playing field, jordan got fed up and punched Kerr, Kerr punched back, got in a scuffle and jordan learned to respect Kerr (not to bully him because this white big will fight back and won’t be bullied like others). However, the story somehow changed over the last 15 years ago to jordan wrecking Kerr and some versions even had Kerr crying. Which made no sense because why woul Kerr thrive afterwards and jordan would respect Kerr after that?

It’s same with Jordan’s vertical jump. It used to be 42”, then 44” and now it’s all of a sudden 48”, just so that he can have the highest vertical in nba history. It’s sort of ridiculous.

Pop relies on assistants to do the coaching for him. Now in his "long hair" days (Malik Rose comment)...His choices for assistants are more politically motivated than coaching ability motivated.

We have sucked for many years now because of it. Even when he's not coaching, Pop is f'ing up the Spurs. But, who knows. Maybe we'll get lucky this time....
