With the Primo drama concluded in the worst way possible we have now to fill his supposed role on the team...that was mainly the back up point guard.
Wesley is good but too young and with a risky style of lay (in fact he's been already injured on his debut). Richardson and Langford and others can take the roler for siìome time on the court but none of them is defitely a poiint guard. A lot of people have already wrote that a veteran pg is the way we should go...
The point is that there aren't not a lot of names available on the free agent's market and for what I know these following guys, for different reasons (age, not good shooters, not good defense), are all but "exciting": 1) Bledsoe; 2) D.J. Augustine; 3) Campazzo; 4) Nunn; 5) I. Thomas; 6) R. Rondo; 7) L. Williams; 8) A. Bradley; 9) B. Goodwin; 10) E. Payton.
The only name I frankly would consider is the one that in the summer gave us trouble more than one time...aka Matthew "Mac" Mc Clung.
If nothing's happened and he's still avaliable it could be a good risk to take...because for what I rememeber he played extremely well against us and he's good at sharing the ball...

just take any promising young guy tbh. We don't need vets.

I dont know if I’d want a point guard. Keldon handling the point guard role last night was intriguing as hell and I want to see more.

Bledsoe just got caught up in a domestic violence thing, iirc.

I think patience is warranted with that last spot...I'd be opportunistic if something comes along but I wouldn't try and force anything right now..

Frank Jackson is only 24 years old and went to the suns camp. He is out there. Played for the Pistons the last couple of years. He was the 31st pick a few years back after one year at Duke.

I don't know that I think Johnson was as good at PG to not want another PG on the roster. Looking at the game highlights, he seemed to struggle to break down the defense. Guys helped him out with off-ball movement that gave him passing lanes. It's nice that Johnson was able to find those guys and bring the ball up the court. But neither he nor Richardson is the team's point-guard. Plus Jones could get hurt, and Keldon DID get hurt but just avoided a legit injury. I want a PG, and I want that PG to be experienced. If Wesley can go, I don't necessarily want that PG to be an every game rotation player. I don't mind a young player with upside. But I don't think there's any question the team should use the spot on a PG. As has been discussed, there are young guys who might check off some boxes. But seeing as the player they pick won't actually have experience with the system, they'll need to not also be raw.

Kris Dunn maybe. Still got some rim pressure and defensive versatility.

If I just felt like I needed a PG at the end of the bench who could try and fit in without causing issues (and I don't feel like we need one right now) I'd probably take a look at Frank Ntlinka (sp?). He has the length to play D and can play within a system. He's young enough to mesh with the current core and he should come cheap.

LMA. He’ll help us lose games, let him retire as a Spur.

A Mexican to fill up those sits. Shit's embarrassing.

I like the idea of a veteran PG who doesn't mind some DNPs when Wesley is with the big club. Be a good mentor off the court and keep things running smoothly in practice. Basically what Pop wanted Parker to do, except that Parker went to Charlotte instead so he could be the backup instead of third string.

Hasn't Richardson performed well as backup PG at times. I don't see a reason to trade him now. Let Wesley be Wesley and give him some minutes. After all, we are in a strange mode--Winning to tank or tanking to win
on a side note, has anyone come across an injury update on wesley?

Campazzo was signed by the Mavericks.
As I've said in another thread, Butler probably makes the most sense.

We're currently 29th turnover rate and our back up PG just got sidelined for 2 months. It's fair to say that the 15th spot has to go an PG now.

Would be great if a team wanted to unload a decent player with a huge contract….

I would have hoped for Luca Vildoza, but he just played for Cvrena Zvezda in a euroleague game. There had been some rumblings that his euro rights were still held in Spain and there could have been lawsuits or grievances filed preventing him from being in Europe, but I guess that's been settled

Bring in Kemba. So long as he isn't expecting a featured role, he'd be a good fit and serve in a similar mentor capacity as Josh. Kemba may be looking to get picked up by a contender though.

I'd probably sign Jared Butler if nobody's picked him up...

Me too. I know im probably being paranoid probably but the timing of the injury and the Primo thing has me worried.

I rekon Richardson can assume backup PG duties he’s played PG in stretches throughout his career.
May not need another PG if Richardson and Vassell are healthy.
Tre/Richardson
Vassell/Langford/Branham
Johnson/McDermott
Sochan/Roby/KBD

I was thinking the same, Richardson and Langford can be the backup point guards. Its better to keep that last spot open for a while, gives the Spurs more options.
Can use the spot to do any of the following
-add immediate help
-turn a 2 way into a regular contract
-bring in a player from another league without having to waive anyone
-use it for trades
-After Jan 5th could use it to try players on 10 day contracts without having to waive anyone
Not having to waive a player and having the cap space that we have means we are 1st in line for any talent that remains out there.
