Mets have a number of players hitting FA. Not sure splurging 5-seasons for a Closer was the most wise decision

Man I hope the Cubbies stay away from Judge. He's due to regress big time and I think whoever signs him is gonna end up regretting it big time. I'd rather throw that bank at Trea or Correa and try to retain Contreras.

This is assuming we're trying to compete again instead of punting another year. Hard to tell what the ownership and FO is trying to do sometimes.

Ehhh not sure about a big regression. Sure there will be some. However you’d be putting him in a lineup with guys that can set up for him and protect him. Well, depending on which team and their lineup.

Alot of big fish are willing to spend big this offseason. I don't think it's in the Cubs best interest to get involved in the bidding wars.

On the flip side the NL Central will be very competitive and both Cards & Brewers are somewhat at a crossroads.

Classy move. 32 years old, good chance he never returns to his former self or at all. But he sacrificed his arm to win the Ring last season and he hasn't earned much in his career. You can't leave him and his wive & kids hanging.

Cubbies keep teasing with rumors of being in talks with 2 shortstops(Xander/Carlos) with the intention of signing both and moving one to 3rd base.

But they kicked off the meetings with this...

It's hard to see him fixing that glaring hole in his swing. But it's only one year and he comes with good defense and baserunning at least.

Money aside, I am impressed they managed to bring everyone back. But to your point I still see the same roster holes from 2022. Last trade deadline they were criticized for not being aggressive enough. Can't say the same here.

They lost DeGrom and Bassett though.
DeGrom is strong in the Postseason but I'd take Verlander more durability.

Phillies won't keep up with ATL/NYM depth in the division. But should sneak into Playoffs again. They are built for 5-game series.

The Shift rule is huge. Players will rise & fall at the plate. Defense will be more difficult.

Verlander was carried this postseason by the rest of the rotation and lineup. He looked awful in two out of three starts, plus he’s not pitching a full season this year like he did last year. Started having calf problems pop up.

Bauer.

What is difference between being claimed on waivers or clearing waivers.
Because if he clears, can be signed for only 725K. Dodgers will be on hook for his regular salary 22 mil.

Would think the line would form to the left for 725K if available on Monday.

I think a waivers claim includes the remainder of his signed contract. So the Dodgers would've been off the hook if some GM was dumb enough to claim him.

Bauer was screwed. The main accuser was well known around here with the San Diego players.

Padres should sign Bauer. Already don't care about locker room after flipping half the lineup late last season. I think Braves should consider signing him too.

Ya claiming off waivers you can outright sign the player.
