i was at the game and i concur with pretty much most of the grades, good eye timvp
bummer that Sochan was so bad, first time seeing him play in person and he significantly underwhelmed on both ends.
Tre Jones is really frustrating and the teammates body language seems annoyed with him taking forever to make a decision, and his lack of offensive play-finishing. but perhaps i was just seeing the body language of a team being outplayed on both ends
other than McDermott and Richardson the offense was quite anemic for the reasons you said about the starting lineup’s spacing issues.
i was a few rows behind the Spurs bench, could easily read Pop’s lips in the huddle
some gems:
2nd quarter- he turns and points to Sochan and says “you’re point guard, if they score, you look at me. On defense, you’re up top, you and him switch *points to Keldon”
three minutes later- screams to the team about the defense, turns to Keldon “What are you bring the ball up the floor for, he’s (Sochan) fucking point guard, I don’t want you bringing it up the fucking floor, why are you doing that? I don’t understand”
same huddle- “Roby, sit your fucking ass on the bench!” and points out a few missed things (not sure what exactly) but it was funny he pointed at Hall and Barlow almost like “you’re taking their minutes” and Roby looked really sad lol
he really relies on Mitch Johnson. he’s often the first guy Pop would talk to and led a few huddles (rather than Brown)
Pop really pushed the idea of Hall running everything in the 4th quarter. and he impressed me with movement switching defensively vs the pnr
Gorgui was consoling Keldon a lot, who was really upset either at himself or the defense. Gorgui was also pulling Vassell aside all game, keeping him engaged. Devin was super focused from the bench all game
i don’t love Tre Jones body language, a little to laissez faire laughing off his mistakes/turnovers/bad positioning
Sochan has no chemistry with Richardson, there was one pass that Richardson didn’t catch and Sochan looked really annoyed
Popovich and Kawhi seemed genuinely happy to see each other, cracked a couple of smiles during and after the game, as well as a few embraces

Who is he pointing to? Uncle Dennis? :lol
The loses could start getting into the youths spirit. Let’s see how they react against LeBron and company tomorrow. I would bet Pop would try to win tomorrow to get them felling good somewhat. I can’t wait.

Nephew: “We’ve been in too many battles to have a scar in our relationship.” on his relationship with Pop
:lol he mean battles (when with spurs) against other teams or battles against PATFO :lol

It seems like we should be a better defensive team. I’m not saying leading the league, but I wouldn’t think we would be at the absolute bottom. I look at the list of our players, and a large number of them are reported to be good defenders, but yet overall our team defense looks horrible.
Yak: great defender
Sochan: already above average at the least
Vassel: drafted as a defensive player
Roby: defensive player
KBD: defensive player
Jones: DPOY in the ACC
Josh Richardson: supposed to be a good defensive player
Langford: occasionally a great defensive player
Zollins: supposed to be a good defender
Of course McBuckets is horrible but we have way less defensive eyesores.
Obviously we are young but seems odd to me, nonetheless.

Spurs are tanking with all these questionable injuries, so all bets are off.

From a year's long obsession with small, athletically deficient guards who can't run point to a new one with tweener forwards, who can't shoot.

He's an underwhelming player. This fan base just hasn't seen real talent in so long that they mistake him and virtually every 1st round pick for it.
That somewhat excuses Branham's passiveness, but it's become a disturbing trend. I'm seeing shades of Walker IV.
Same, but he's the latest bastion of "Spurs culture", so he'll be here a long while.
Don't buy into that. All part of Pop's played out schtick.

Basically, Spurs really need Blake Wesley back. I'm still not on board with Tre being the starting PG but he's all they got for the time being. Maybe one day Sochan becomes Magic 2.0 or Wesley shows us something, but until then, it's "slightly better Antonio Daniels" time with Tre.

The injury precautions definitely lean towards tanking.

I wish Tre was as good an offensive player as Antonio Daniels was

So? Nowhere in that did I say I was ruling out his becoming a solid player, I just don't get the hype and am big on first impressions.
