that sequence with 3:44 left in the 4th quarter and he had 3 chances to drop it into tim and instead he dribbled - dribbled - dribbled - dribbled dribbled and jacked up a crap shot.

ah i just posted in a moment of irritation - as far as the replies - we have already debated the top 5 pg in here and all-star and only the ture homers believe that -- look at how he played against the lakers -- if you ask me TP is turning into the poor mans steve francis - he likes to dominate the ball an awful lot.

You have GOT to be kidding me. Focusing on one bad play in a night full of kickass-fu is kinda silly. He isn't just the main reason we won...he probably kept us from getting our asses handed to us on a platter.

Hey, he might not be a top five point gaurd...but he sure as hell played like one tonight. He and Bruce were freaking animals...they get the game balls.

Oh, and Eva looked hot...damn I hate you TP...

One more stupid thread.

First what does top 5 PG means?
Tony :
Ranks #6 in the NBA in Field-Goal Percentage(0.553)
Ranks #19 in the NBA in Assists(79.0)
Ranks #18 in the NBA in Points(285.0)
Ranks #5 in the NBA in Field Goals Per 48 Minutes(11.85)
Ranks #14 in the NBA in Points Per 48 Minutes(28.1)

23 years old, 2 rings.
So far in the season, best player (with Duncan) in the best team in the league.
Good defender (much better than Nash).
Fastest player in the league (with Iverson).

Ok he could have a bit more assist, but some other PG could have a bit more points.

Ok he has many turnovers, cause he takes his responsibilities. For information Nash is the turnovers leader. His nash a top 5 PG?

I don't know if Tony is a top 5 PG and I don't care. But he fits perfectly our game now and I wouldn't trade him for any PG in the league.

But I feel that if someday tony stats becomes:
22 pts 10 assists 5 rebonds 2 steals...
You will still think he is not a top PG (Ok on the last game he scored 40 pts 17 assists and 15 rebonds, but he had 4 turnovers... fire him!).

Parker is becoming a dominant point guard and right now he is still a top 5, did you not see tonight's game? He's not duncan for crying out loud, he can commit errors, he is still mortal, but as far as parker games go, he tore it fucking UP!!! what's his career high, like 34 or so? What we saw tonight was a premiere tony parker scoring clinic, a performance to be cherished..
I'm proud of my spurs after tonight's game.

Yo,

this thread is a fantastic summary of reasons why i am posting very rarely on spurstalk, whether if i am enjoying many people posting since the good 3 years i am having a look at spurstalk :

after a good game of parker, there is always a "dumb-ass" who tries to show that parker is not that good...

that's exhausting.... and tiring....

So...let me get this straight...apparently, in order to be considered (by you) "a top 5 PG", one has to make the 100% right decision 100% of the time? No mistakes, whatsoever? Never?

Alrighty then. There aren't any "top 5 PG"s in the league. They all screw up occasionally, many of them more often than Tony does.

and Duncan passed a lot of opportunities yesterday. he was not in confidence with his shot and tony as a good leader recognized this.
He made clutch FT yet he missed badly earlier but kept focus.
He was amazing guarding Dick. made good fouls at the right time. did not let himself get out of the game because of errors.

it was one of his best all around game ever yesterday

spur219

Sorry TP is not top 5.

Steve Nash
Jason Kidd
Allen Iverson
Chauncey
Arenas

spurs_fan_in_exile
12-02-2005, 09:22 AM
When Kidd is healthy he's a top 5 PG, but he hasn't been 100% for a while now. He can't take over the game the same way that the other four and TP can.

There is something funny. In many thread I have read that Tony is not a good PG because he doesn't have enough assists and scores too much.
But if you look at Arenas stats:
26 pts 6.1 assists in 40 minutes. So per 48 minutes: 31 pts and
7.3 assists.
And then Tony:
20 pts 5.6 assists in 34 minutes. So per 48 minutes: 28 pts and
7.9 assists.

So I should conclude that Tony is a better PG that Arenas (7.9>7.3) even if he averages less points (Tony has also a bit more rebounds).

IT IS STUPID TO MAKE LISTS OF TOP5 PG!!!!

So, cause I am stupid, this is the best PG in the league:
Rick Brunson 24 assists per 48 minutes... but he played 4 minutes this season :lol
