View Full Version : NFL betting final week 18. Who is tanking, laying down, out etc. Lets gets some Locks

Give it to me SpursTalk.

Current draft position vs ____

1 Texans at 5 Colts. Texans can lock up #1 with a loss, but do they have a player they absolutely want. Colts can move up in the draft

2 Bears at Vikings (can they move up in Winning seeding?). Bears have plenty of reason to tank to secure #1. Do the Vikings have anything to play for?

3. Cardinals at 49ers. Should we go huge on 9ers? Do they want to / can they move up in the event the Eagles lose? Or are they resting?

4. Broncos hosting Chargers. With new coach they certainly looked better vs KC last week and actually led for a while. Do Bolts need to win?

Found a partial list for NFC scenarios.
NFC playoff-clinching scenarios for Week 18 of 2022 NFL season (https://www.nfl.com/news/nfc-playoff-clinching-scenarios-for-week-18-of-2022-nfl-season)

49's and Eagles game starts at the same time. Eagles win = #1 seed. Eagles loss / 9ers win = 49ers #1 seed.
If Eagles are cruising to win, might SF back off and rest in the 2nd half?

I'm leaning towards bet large on 49ers 1st half only.
Reaction?

They'll use winning percentage iirc. Chiefs get the #1 seed as long as they win Sunday bruv, you can breath easy.

I figured, but kind of sucks sporting wise, tbh. I know sports come second in these cases, but still kind of unfair to have the #1 seed getting decided by this.

If the Chiefs/Bills meet in the AFCCG they might play it at a neutral site so there's that.

Somewhat of a concession but man, the Bills earned the chance to potentially host.
For that matter even Joey Burrow had a chance to be #1 or #2 seed. Now they most likely be stuck at 4.

Chiefs definitely benefit.

Then the teams could agree to play the game next week, but they might not be willing to/able to if they can't go this week either.

Not that i GAF about all the millionaires and billionaires.....but for some of the average Joe and Suzy Sixpacks who made travel plans, reserved work days off etc...
All the restraunts, taxis etc who have plans for playoff game on X date in TheirTown.

Changing the dates to play the full schedule is going to be a huge domino effect.

No perfect solution to this one for sure. And if the Chiefs get #1 by default well then the Bills or Joey Burrow or any other AFC team will just have to nutt up and beat them at Arrowhead or at Nuetralville.

DAF86
01-05-2023, 02:18 AM
The best solution possible to salvage the integrity of the competition is to push everything back for a week while the Bills and Bengals finish week 17 next sunday.

I know that the business side of things makes this pretty much impossible, so the best next thing, imho, would be:

-Play week 18 as planned.

-Postpone the playoffs one week while the Bengals and Bills finish off the season.

-The lost week is regained during the off week before the SB, so as to mantain the original date of the SB.

Buffalo got dicksucked by the league. Disgusting. Cincinnati fans should be pissed. Chiefs fans, too, because now if they play either Cincinnati or Buffalo in the playoffs it will be at a "neutral site" and likely some indoor rust belt area stadium near Buffalo to give their beloved BillyGoats the best possible chance. :bang

Cincinnati was driving, up 7-3, likely to make it 14-3. At home. No way Cinci was losing that game. Buffalo should be the 3 seed and that's that.

Eventually the Packers will flip the script like we did in the 1998 Wild Card after being dominated by Farve & Holmgren for 3 years. I hope it's not this season. I think the NFL is better when Green Bay is good but I'm not gonna lie I rather face the Lions.

Can't imagine Philly rushing Hurts back over a seeding issue but....

This is where i wish coaching staffs and ultimately Head Coaches would have the backup warmed up and ready to go.
This archaic NFL (and most big NCAA) that the starting QB just has to stay in the whole game or until it's wayy too late to make a comeback....
Many a game blown by this.

If Hurts is hampered enough to be a net negative, get the backup in ASAP.
However......
I did not watch it, did Minshew blow balls in the 4th qtr vs New Orleans?

Interesting point about the loser curse. Wouldn't winning with a 3rd string Mr.Irrevelant be too good to be true?

The Defense is better than 2019 with better offensive weapons though. And I think the AFC is weaker.

I'm expecting a 3rd heartbreak but just enjoying the ride. Tbh I cried after Ravens and no 49er loss will ever hurt as much.

You probably know them better than I do. In my experience when a team dominates the top seed for an entire season and loses it late (especially now with the BYE or nothing setup) they are toast in the Playoffs.

Eagles badly need that #1 seed and Bye

Won't know who the f is playing hard or not after halftime, thus the 1/2 game bets.

Today propped Mahomes over 14 rushing. Easy.
Lost the Over after the Chiefs and the Raiders were tanking retards for the entire last 8 minutes. Find it hard to believe Stidwel is that bad. Couple throws looked very tanky. Even Mahomes took what looked like a tank sack.

Yep. One of the teams I remember the most who fit that mold was the 2008 Giants. Coming off a SB win, they had the most impressive stretch to start the season, going something like 11-1 against a brutal schedule. Then Plaxico shot himself and Steve Smith tore his knee. They finished 12-4 and floundered in the playoffs vs. the Eagles.

Mark Celibate
01-08-2023, 10:03 AM
2007 Cowboys too were similar to the 08 Giants. Started out 11-1 blowing out many teams and only loss to the 18-1 Patriots. They just beat GB to pretty much ensure a #1 seed, and afterwards the typical "We Dem Boyz!" Cowboys entitlement set in and I'm sure they spent every night thereafter ooga boogaing in Deep Ellum/Uptown knowing that a Super Bowl appearance was virtually a lock. After starting 11-1, they went 2-2 with the two wins being close games against bad teams. And then of course, lose at home to the Giants their first playoff game. That was the first year after Parcells left along with all the grittiness and discipline he had built up. IMO this was the first of the many late season Cowboys' collapses to come after ...

The whole idea of the Cowboys franchise being a circus and choking in the playoffs was never really a thing until after this season tbh there was still some mystique left over from the 90s and everybody was confident they were 'back' after getting the 1 seed

5-game winning streak would speak for itself

I think Giants are resting players but still possibility they upset Eagles creating a Packers @ Eagles matchup.

So you remember this play. I was so butthurt by the Pack at this point :lol. Really liked Ahman Green though

I didn't see it live (I was an infant when it comes to football back then)but I've seen that play several times and yeah that was brutal, but to me it will never be worse than the playoff game against the Seahawks in 2014 I think.

Walker, Douglas, Doubs, and Rodgers are acting like they have money on the Lions. Walker and Douglas acting like complete idiots, Doubs with the stone hands, and Rodgers underthrowing passes and has made Kerby Joseph look like Deion Sanders this season.

Lions not having a playoff berth at stake might've actually hurt the Packers, tbh.

I don't know if we see he screen-lateral or a 4th down pass without the Lions playing with house money.
