Another one gone…

Time to play “Blow by Blow” all the way thru on my decent sound system…

possibly the GOAT if you factor in longevity as compared to the other GOAT- Jimi…

sigh

Ugh, this one sucks. :( And he'd just contracted meningococcus shortly after receiving the covid mRNA Booster.... Go figure... Another #fauciMurder tbh

Probably still underrated. From his age group, he was technically better than Page, Clapton, and Hendrix.
He just never had the commercial success.

Crazy to think of the guitarists that went through The Yardbirds

No doubt. It's arguably the three most influential British guitar players ever.

I guess Blackmore might be up there.

It's wild how "old people dying" is something that never happened before 2021.

This is a pretty cool pic. Beck, Clapton, Page, and May with the Queen.

id say he was as good as the two top dogs- EVH and Jimi

and better than page and others -

the reason he got near EVH and Jimi was due to his longevity- he just kept playing, creating, inventing quality stuff and his early work stands up (Blow by Blow, Wired, etc…) to any other master guitar work

i dont believe he was chasing commercial success tbh but who cares?

It's a really subjective conversation as to who's the best. Of all the top guys, Beck is the one that always seemed willing to try something different. I can't think of any other guitar player than evolved like he did. EVH basically just did EVH for his whole career. Not that there was anything wrong with that.

Agree that he was better than Page as a technical guitar player but as far as writing music and creating riffs, Page has to be at the top.

Alice Cooper's 2 cents (no one in this thread is worthy of tbh)

Page - Rock Guitar
Clapton - Blues Guitar
Beck - Guitar

I don't hate Alice Cooper but it's not like he's some brilliant musician.

glad i got to catch him live a few years ago. it basically was a Rod Stewart concert with a Jeff Beck cameo, but still was killing it at the hollywood bowl

There aren't many that don't use a pick anymore. Beck, Mark Knopfler, and Buckingham come to mind. I saw Lindsey Buckingham with Fleetwood Mac about 10 years ago. They gave him several minutes for a solo and he was still brilliant.
Even though he was old af.

for sure, he "recycled" some riffs, but Machine Head is pretty good shit

Yep. He had his moments. I think he's brilliant. But unlike Page, the riffs don't immediately hit home.
This is a pretty obscure tune he did that sounds like it should be on a movie score. But one of my favs from him.

Pretty telling when a guitarist can pick and choose his singers. Dio was probably the best fit for him. That shit was awesome.

Yeah...All Night Long is the other song I'll check out from time to time (from that iteration). Bonnet was a great singer.

Never spent much time listening to Jeff Beck, I think it's because Truth was one of my dad's favorite albums and it always bored me. Never really got into the bluesy English guitar stuff. But just listened to Blow By Blow and that's much more my jam. I have some catching up to do.

Blow by Blow is an instrumental masterpiece

the truth and beck -ola era with rod stewart singing is great

the jeff beck at ronnie scotts live performances featuring an all star group of studio musicians and guest vocalists are really good recordings

just a ton of awesome recordings of a great great guitarist
