Yep. Had he been going out of bounds, because he had two feet on the ground, they'd say he had possession and it would be considered a competed pass. But fuck that field was as bad as the AT&T center air conditioning. "Both teams had to play on it!" sure but one team is known for pass rush and that was nullified.
theres different rules for sideline/out of bounds catches because there simply isnt the time for a "football move". but in this case, after sanders caught the ball and got both feet down, looked like he hopped up before impact which should definitely have been considered the "football move" prior to him losing possession. im astonished it got overturned. worst call of the game. the holding at the end was soft, but he grabbed jersey and thats one of the big signs refs look for.

really sucks being stuck in the same division as mahomes on a 10 year contract... but just gotta admire his greatness. i was pretty bitter over brady most of his career but by the time the patriots rang against the falcons i just started applauding brady and recognized what i was watching. not gonna wait that long to appreciate mahomes

Herd made a couple interesting points
A) There was tape of Eagles defense over-persuing. And even cheating on motion plays. Reid is great friends with Pederson and Jags played Philly early in the season...
B) The shaky field neutralized the teams pass rush
C) Belichick always forced his defenders to wear white gloves in the SB when their opponent wore white jerseys

This was the biggest thing, especially on those two wide open tuddys. Eagles secondary kept falling apart every time Chiefs went into motion in the 2nd half.
Andy Reid was out there playing 3d chess last night.

Chirs Simms made a couple of great points about Mahomes' legacy that nobody is talking about:
1) In the three Superbowls he has played, he has had the lesser team. The least talented one. If you rank the 20 best players in each of those SB's, the opossing team gets more than 50% of the spots. Still, he won 2 out of 3. This speaks volumes about how his individual greatness tilts the scale in favour of his team.
2) He just arguably had the greatest individual season for a QB ever. Let's recount:
-Lead the NFL in passing yards.
-Lead the NFL in TDs.
-Won regular season MVP.
-Won Superbowl MVP.
-Won Superbowl.
-1st QB ever to lead the league in passing yards and win the superbowl.
-1st player since 1999 to win regular season MVP and win the Superbowl.
-1st QB to lead the number 1 passing offense to a SB victory over the number 1 passing defense in NFL history.

I disagree in that I think a lot of people realize this and are talking about it. I flip around between three sports shows in the morning and everyone of them had a segment on how good he is.

Bucs I agree had the superior roster.
49ers I'm not sure. This was offense led by Mostert & Sanders. Staley retired after the game. Strength of the team was the defensive line but Chiefs counter with Jones/Clark. Kwon Alexander was injured but played and got ran over all day.
Eagles. 2 of their best players are WRs...in a running offense.
49ers/Eagles both heavily relied on pass rush and it was nullified in part by chance. Philly sloppy field and SF officiating crew with the least holding calls of the season.
I think Mahomes had a great AFCCG outplaying Burrow. Sunday the scramble was a legacy play. I didn't see much else, I think Hurts stole the show. Mahomes seems due for a Super Bowl where he has a monster game but losses late.
2 massive punt returns on the final drive in the past 2 games. I think we can credit Mahomes with giving his teammates confidence. In terms of how much credit Mahomes should get for the 2 SB wjns...I think it's overstated. Reid has built the best current team culture in the NFL. Team has immense stability at the management level. Roster is really well structured unlike the NFC teams that make a 1-year run then retool.

This year is unarguably, dude. Eagles had probowl level guys at every line.
O-line: Eagles
D-line: Eagles
Secondary: Eagles
Linebackers: Eagles
Receivers: Eagles
Running game: Eagles
The only positions where the Chiefs were better were QB and TE.
49ers might be closer because the Chiefs still had Tyreek and Mathieu, but, still, that 49ers team was stacked on every position sans your boy Crappopolo.

I think the Eagles D line was so good it masked some serious issues with their LBs and secondary, especially the secondary. It looked like the Chiefs had a really good look at how Dallas was able to move the ball easily against them in their second meeting. Moore wasn't smart enough to use the jet sweep variations properly

Shit...I'm not going to do that. I can name the three I listen to..."The Ticket", "The Freak", and Espn Radio Dallas. All three of those had not one bad thing to say about Mahomes. He made plays when it counted. He sees the field better than anyone and makes plays when it counts. I don't think they punted in the second half. I think they only had 8 possessions in the whole game and they put up 38. I don't think anyone is legit talking about Mahomes being a choker.
Maybe you should quite watching Kellerman, Stephan A., etc.
I can't imagine anyone seriously piling on Mahomes. Maybe you can give me some links.

Yes! I have heard at least a couple of times about how the Eagles were better on paper. I don't remember them delving into stats but they did mention that he's the only QB since Warner to get a regular season MVP and be in the Super Bowl. Honestly, I haven't heard a negative thing about him. It's all been about how he might be the best QB we'll see. And everyone seems to acknowledge that his WR corps is pretty bad. I don't think it's as bad as they say if Moore and Tony progresses.
You're trying to make a really weird point that doesn't exist imo.
Bad calls maybe, but the Eagles defense still fell apart in the second half; really that simple for me.

- Hurts fumble TD
None involving Mahomes. But Patrick did play a surprisingly very even keel game. He usually has more flashes but also a headscratcher.

KC was favoured in those SBs because of Mahomes, not for having the more complete team. That's exactly the point. Switch Mahomes and Garoppolo and the Niners would have been favoured, swtich Mahomes and Brady, and the Bucs would have been favoured.
Also, explain how saying Mahomes just had the best season ever as a QB is a vanilla take, when I haven't heard any other pundit on TV make this take?

Not everybody believes Mahomes played for the lesser team in the 3 SB he was a part of, and not everybody belives this season he had was the best ever for a QB. And I definitely haven't heard anyone else on the media bring these two topics. Not even Nick Wright, who is the biggest KC homer on TV.

Why would he need Diggs though? Open WRs isn't an issue on the Chiefs. I don't see them dropping many balls, that can surely be attitubuted to Mahomes throwing a good ball.

Patrick was drafted to a Playoff team with a HOF Offensive Coach in an Offensive Era. Of the Top 25 QBs of all time, I don't think any started with a more favorable deck of cards.
If you want to crown him early on, it's entirely understandable. I'll wait and see what occurs as he is forced to shoulder more responsibility. IMO if he was as great as many are already painting him, he wouldn't have mediocre Super Bowl numbers 3 games in.

A good coach should be able to build and scheme with a great QB. And I guess I agree a lot of it is luck in who you end up with as your QB. But 3 Super Bowls, 5 straight conference championships?

Andy Reid playoffs record
22-16 overall. 11-3 with Mahomes. 1-4 before Mahomes in KC. 10-9 in Philly. 11-13 playoff record before Mahomes.
Chiefs Pre Reid - 2 Playoff appearances in 9 years
Andy's first season: flipping a 2-win Chiefs team into 11 wins
I'm not saying Mahomes is a passenger. But he has started his career with the best deck of cards. Pat deserves to be in the GOAT conversation but I'm pumping breaks. Seen this movie before...

I don’t go to a lot of football websites. I’m sure there are shitty takes everywhere. But damn, there’s some weird shit that gets said in here.

Are you saying he's a good coach or bad coach? Or somewhere in between that just ended up with Mahomes?
Reid is a good coach but it does help the kind of players he has had. Be interesting to see how he would do with a subpar team like the Texans or Bears.

He's a good coach that got the right player, and developed him very well. There are a lot of talented qbs out there that don't get to the right team/coaching staff

Got it. Almost all coaches successes are based on who they end up with. Phil Jackson, Pop, Jimmy Johnson, etc. I suppose you have to be a good enough coach to make it work.
Then on the other hand, you have guys like Belichick or maybe Rick Carlisle. Who did things pretty great with less material. I guess. Not trying to blow it off but it's an extensive conversation.

The main strength of their defense is the Defensive Line that was neutralized by the sloppy field. I don't think they are as bad as they performed that night.

Nah. That D line played shitty QB’s most of the year. Can’t use the field as an excuse. KC’s D got 2 sacks in those “conditions.”

In terms of accomplishments Mahomes is already 3rd behind Brady and Montana. In terms of peak, Mahomes is the best by a distance.
Don't forget about Bradshaw when you're thinking about accomplishments. 4 rings, 2x SB MVP, 1 league MVP, 2x passing TD leader.

And way more interceptions than all of them

Put Terry on the New Orleans Saints instead of the Steelers and he's not gonna be in the hof
His accuracy was pretty mediocre

I'll also throw some respect to Otto Graham and Bart Starr. Don't forget about the pre-SB era. Different game, but equally impressive how those guys dominated.

^ Only to have the Eagles take Slay back a half a day later.
Bad move imo. He sold them out.
