Good singing. He’s respected, cheap and does the trick in the locker room and is a position of need with Jak gone.

Hi, Gorgui, how ya been? Gosh, we haven’t seen you in so long. It seems like… hours since you were here.

Closes the door on Goga. Dieng really seemed to like being a Spur for some reason. I wonder if he's planning on going into coaching or the FO. Certainly feels like the Spurs have plans for him given how they've kept him on the roster despite not needing to to give Dieng money.

Keeping the young 'uns spirit up is as valuable as their development on court, tbh. Having McBuckets and Dieng around to give them the big picture and supporting them is gold to me.

Yeah, he’s already listed for the Spurs on spotrac three times. :lol

Contract details?

hahah seriously dude. I think sites like sportrac will take a week to be near updated given the flurry of activity.

One thing that PATFO can be counted on is taking care of their own and we have money to burn so I’m not mad.

There’s some history behind it. In Basketball Without Borders in 2015, Dieng played for Team Africa, coached by Pop. Then, Dieng has stated in some interview that he knew R. C. Buford before he learned to speak English.

I agree. There is the R.C. and African basketball connection that first introduced these two and it may lead to something beyond being on the roster.

Dieng never unpacks his stuff at the hotel and just wait to get cut. They have a room at the hotel called the "Dieng room" which is always available in case Gorgui comes back.

It's more like he's stuck in a revolving door... in, then out, then in, then out... rinse and repeat

Dieng is an elite locker room guy. All the young guys look up to him and listen to him. He's also the first guy to go talk to a player who gets yelled at by Pop. It's rare to find a player who doesn't have to play in order to be an effective leader.

Most comparable locker room guy I can think of on the Spurs would be Sean Marks. But Marks was different. He wasn't really a traditional leader -- he was just everyone's best friend and helped the chemistry off the court.

No Goga I see. He’s must really be a headcase or something given all the rumored past interest

thanks for sharing that. I have read, probably from some of your posts or others that he is a great locker room guy and I was scratching my head thinking it was more like what you described Marks as being but he must go beyond that. Nice to hear.

Free agents, even low ranking ones, Won't necessarily come here. You are very likely to be cut in SA given our depth. Go to a contender. Also fat women , bad arena, poor nightlife,

I can see Dieng being named an assistant coach in Austin next season. They like him for other than his playing skills and he likes us for some reason .

I’m just hoping we don’t drag our feet for a full-time roster spot for Bassey because we like guys like Dieng. Hopefully they two camps have good communication and Bassey doesn’t get frustrated and look for a new team after he shows out in this last third (which I think he will do unless he is hurt)

Did you see the post where bassey can play every remaining game on his current 2way? No reason to throw money and basset is probably wanting to reach free agency to max interest

Yeah, but that’s the problem. I’d rather lock him up now than after he drives up his value for the next 27 games. I get why that might make sense for Bassey though, betting on himself.

Do we have any kind of exclusive rights/right of first refusal on a two-way?

If only Dieng was around a decade earlier, he would have been one of those long time vets that has that Pop culture looking for a ring with the Big 3

There’s a Gorgui Dieng website.

https://www.gorguidieng.com/

And a Gorgui Dieng Foundation, which is working to improve health care, nutrition, and agriculture in Senegal.

No jackass replies here. This is serious, guys. And it’s undoubtedly part of why the players respect him.

If you’ve got a little spare change in your pocket, they accept donations.

What is Gorgui's contact this time around? It would be hilarious if it were like $15MM to bring the Spurs to the salary floor :lol

Good hire, he is god damn awful, barely moves around. How his bio says he is 33 yrs is beyond me.

Dieng’s contract is:

Rest of Season, Minimum
Base salary: $895,743
Cap hit: $622,582

He will presumably also get a partial share of the salary floor shortfall.

As already mentioned in numerous threads and posts, it adds nothing to what the Spurs will have to pay in salary, since they’re under the salary floor.
