Reading through the subreddits of Detroit and (particularly) Houston is so delicious. So much vitriol and Spurs hate. Everything between "they can't keep getting away with it" to "NBA IS RIGGED"

Yes, I'm sure the NBA rigged the lottery to give a generational prospect to the small-market, ratings-kryptonite, boring old Spurs as if Adam Silver and co. care about his French connections with Tony Parker.

I do feel bad for the Pistons though, they got the nightmare scenario....tank hard enough to get the worst record only to end up at #5. Granted, they won the Cade Sweepstakes a few years ago but still...

I had that 1995 Championship shirt from my brother-in-law. He was born and raised in Houston. I always talk basketball with him especially his dad, both medical doctors, his dad a Sports doctor. I don’t mean bad for the Rockets. I liked Hakeem. His brothers actually went to school in UTSA. I remember moving here from the Philippines, and getting so excited riding the elevators with… Olajuwon brothers?? Damn… until I watched them play :lmao:lmao

The best one was the CF poster who just machine gunned those whiney babies by pointing out that the odds of getting picks 2,3, and 4 in consecutive years, even with top 3 positioning, was only 5.67, and that they were VERY lucky.

Ben Wallace is probably my favorite player who never wore Silver & Black, so I was sad he didn't witness his team getting a good pick. Glad Detroit didn't keep getting high picks, but wish someone else would've seen that.

In 2021 Houston (worst record, ended up with 2nd pick) had a 13.4% chance of doing better than they did, and a 72.5% chance of doing worse
In 2022 Houston (worst record, ended up with 3rd pick) had a 27.4% chance of doing better than they did, and a 59.8% chance of doing worse
In 2023 Houston (2nd worst record, ended up with 4th pick) had a 40.1% chance of doing better than they did, and a 47.8% chance of doing worse
In all three cases, they ended up doing better than expected. These people have no business complaining, if they took Jalen Green over Mobley, Scottie Barnes, Giddey and Franz Wagner it isn't the NBA's fault.

I mean, what more do these guys want? They got Ralph Sampson, Hakeem Olajuwon and Yao Ming, and to a lesser degree, they got Sengun who the Spurs should have picked instead that year. By my count, the Spurs are sort of neck and neck by now getting the number 1 pick. It sucks that Ming and Sampson had injuries, but they had some overall great big men too. It's not like the Spurs have taken all of them. Also, they've blatantly tanked for a few years now, so again, not our fault their picks haven't really worked out great so far.

MIDTOWN, Manhattan (WABC) -- Houston Rockets guard Kevin Porter is under arrest in New York City Monday for allegedly assaulting his girlfriend, a WNBA player, police sources told ABC News.
Porter, 23, is in custody at the NYPD's 17th precinct in Midtown.
Porter returned early Monday morning from an evening out to the Millennium Hotel in Times Square where he and his girlfriend were staying.
According to police sources, the victim was upset with the late hour of his return and locked the door.
Once he entered with the help of hotel security, Porter is accused of beating up the woman, the sources said.
The extent of the victim's injuries was not immediately clear.
Domestic assault charges are pending against Porter.

Amen is as much of a unicorn at the pg spot as Wemby at the PF spot, except he doesn't come with injury concerns. Wemby is 7'3 so what? Amen is 6'7 pg with top 5% athleticism. Just look at that photo of Amen vs Scoot tell me Amen is a poor consolation prize lmao.

It's dumb to pray for a rookie before he is even eligible, so many things can change over the years. That's like saying you spent years praying for Emoni Bates.

Calling Wemby a multidecade talent is premature to me, just exaggeration and over hype. He didn't even dominate SL in a way that showed he was a multi generational talent, he ain't even a lock for ROY lmao. He played good but even his last game 20/5 is really good but doesn't scream he is a multi decade talent...thats just Paolo Banchero territory.

A multi generational talent to me is Shaq, Lebron, Tim Duncan, Hakeem. These guys made an instant impact and immediately made their team relevant after being total dumpsters the year before. What the expectation for Wemby? Will he make the Spurs a 0.500 team this year?

I actually really liked Houston's draft, and I think Thompson, Wallace, Eason and Smith are a good foundation which hopefully Green can supplement. In that same way I like Chet a whole lot and would've been perfectly happy had the Spurs had a chance to draft him last year. Don't get me wrong -- it's pretty clear that Wemby has a case for being the best young core in the league by himself. He is superlative. But there will be other stars, and other teams that find ways to win titles with the guys they drafted. None of the rookies have given me any reason to not want them to succeed yet. In the very least, it would be nice to have some good free agents and trade targets to put around Wemby when the time is right.

But yes, I read that thread yesterday actually. Some Rockets fans are super salty, and it is funny. They should take their three top-four picks and be happy instead of staying mired in the past.

Nah I take Amen all day everyday, swear to God if Spurs offered me Wemby for Amen straight up I'd still take Amen .

Are you okay now? Just let it all out. Just bad weed :smokin

Whitmore, sorry. As someone who didn't care about the prospects all that much, those two guys sort of flowed together in my head.

^ def agree that Rockets have lots of great pieces. They probably need to consolidate a few to give playing time to folks though. They probably helped themselves by waiving that nut job pg they had.

Scrolling the Rockets boards for fun, and the current stage of grief is somewhere between bargaining and denial. They are literally over there convincing themselves that Sengun will be better than Wemby.

Bump

Awesome stat line by Sengun tonight.

I should fess up and say I do like him- he's got flaws (lack of athleticism) but definitely has useful skills

Sengun is a nice player. The Rockets suffer from a shortage of playmakers. They blunted FVV on Monday and targeted Sengun both games, running a second defender at him pretty hard. They'll get Jalen Green back who should help. Since Sengun struggled with the hard defense, their offensive routines suffered. Zach is also much better right now.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure that's why he slipped in the draft. Not only unathletic, but undersized. You can usually get away with one of those and be a neutral defender, but not both.

Houston should be able to hide Sengun a bit with their length. They're going to struggle against teams with productive bigs and... lookee... the Spurs are one of those teams now.

I thought Zach killed Jabari even worse than he did Sengun, who semi-had a chance. Smith didn't have a chance down low against those shoulders and baby hooks. And he was picked 10 spots higher than Sengun and is supposedly a good defender.

After last night, I have spurs as the better team this season. That HOU squad is full of more or less developed prospects who do'nt seem to make a coherent team, starting by Amen and Cam who are still very raw.

Rockets are young and going to make mistakes. They're long and cause the Spurs trouble, who were relying too much on jacking shots last night. Sengun is a sweet player and took it to Collins after a rough two preseason games. Still maintain FVV and Brooks were good pickups despite being very expensive. I changed my mind on that; without them, I'm not sure they'd win eight games.

Green is still an uncertainty to me. He's a pure scorer, when he's on, but disappears without touches. Jabari still seems like a very expensive 3-and-D guy. Whitmore has fallen out of the rotation for a reason and Amen Thompson will take a while but has promise. Best move was picking up Udoka, who will provide accountability and consistency, although I feel they'll depend too much on Van Vleet and Sengun to get the team running.

We had some fucking idiotic defensive possessions, too. We just bent over and gave them two drives to the basket in late OT, for example. Both teams are young and developing.

Houston have a future star in Segun, and Green as a solid piece, now their mid term future will depend on how Amen and Cam develop. But I really like Segun and Green.

Sengun is a rugged physical skilled post player, but his defense is dogshit, and in spite of a pretty shot, not a great 3 point threat, or more than a passable FT shooter. He’s a dinosaur in today’s game and has no star potential.

People are forgetting that Houston is probably going to get two top picks in the 2024 draft - So they can upgrade pretty fast if they get lucky and get Sarr or Holland - for some reason I am pretty sure though they will come away with Donovan Clingan who I think will be a lot like Walker Kessler in Utah .

Their pick goes to OKC unless it's 1-4 and they get Brooklyn's. Depends on how good the Nets are.

And yet at 21, the dinosaur dropped 25pt (11/18), 14rbd and 7ass on the spurs who had no business winning this game... I'd take it. Not to mention defense is an afterthought in today's NBA where 130 pt/game is routine and you can't touch anyone on defense... Spurs got like 3 phantom calls late in the 4th and in OT. It's all about the offense. But if you wouldn't have liked spurs drafting him, I definitely do... .He's just a rocket, that's his default for you.

Houston loses their pick if it’s not in the top 4, and they just spent a ton of money making sure that it won’t be top 4.

Spurs won because they outshot Houston from the 3 point and FT lines. That’s the modern game. Who cares if some chubby Turk goes off, and they lose? The post game should really only be used as a change of pace, and to kick out to shooters. Even a game as good as Sengun’s didn’t ultimately matter.

He’s a dinosaur looking up at the Wemby meteor.

That's a great strategy, betting on your opponent missing FTs and turning it over in the last 2 min, then the refs bailing you out. It's a HOU loss, not a spurs win, Rocks win this 9 times out of 10. Watch it again, spurs are very lucky with this one, HOU indeed misses 2 FTs, then a wide open potential game winner.. that's basketball, you gotta make shots, but spurs can't flex with this one. Statistically you'lll lose more than you'll win in that configuration.

And what kind of argument is that anyway? Winning or losing doesn't say it all about individual performances, you can have a great game personally and still lose. And Segun had a great game. Yes, he has to get better on the line and work on his shot, but what he does at 21 is still very solid.

To be honest I would have been bitter as hell too if the Spurs missed the #1 pick. Just to know there was a guy like Victor out there not in a Spurs uniform, like Professor Lambeau having to know Will Hunting existed.

To be honest, I hate the Rockets and I had nightmares of them getting the #1 pick.

But as is stands right now, I like the idea of the Texas Triangle being something again.
Aside from the Dallas swap some years down the road (and me really disliking Kyrie), I'm ok with those two being good again...as I know we will be great come time.
