I hope Pop continues to coach for the foreseeable future. However, given his age and the current head coaches available on the market, the Spurs should invest in his heir apparent in the coming weeks, if not days. There are at least four good coaches on the market, without counting the up-and-comers. Nurse, Williams, Budenholzer, and Vogel. Ty Lue might join this list. Milwaukee, Philadelphia, Phoenix, and San Antonio are all attractive destinations. The Spurs should get their guy, making him the league's highest paid assistant and giving him assurances the head coach job is slated for him should Pop step aside due to age, illness, or a desire to retire.
The Spurs have so many young players on roster, investing in more coaching is a good move regardless.
