Good thing the draft isn't predicated on who will be the most entertaining destination.

Would it have been better if he ended up in Detroit? Or Charlotte so they could waste the career of another star talent?

Big markets already have every advantage when it comes to free agency and spending. The draft is the only thing that maintains a modicum of parity in this league.

Glad AJ called his ass out.

I always hated that narrative because it was based on such a dumbed down view of what is interesting in the eyes of mainstream fans and media-- as if dating a Kardashian or wearing flashy jewelry was more newsworthy than learning about the cultural backgrounds of Timmy's Virgin Islands, Tony's France, Manu's time in Argentina and Italy, etc., etc... It's the equivalent of Americans who think a trip to Nepal or Zanzibar is "weird," because it represents a missed opportunity to spend time at an incredibly "interesting" place like Disney World.

The media would have still been upset with that result. Any place that is not LA, NYC, Miami gets their scorn. They are a bunch of village idiots.

:lol This is very true. I will also say any trip to outside of the US that is not to a European country will get you weird looks and reactions.

the media is boring. and when you think about it, they are really doing the NBA a massive disservice. rather than promoting the game of basketball, and other talents throughout the league, they remain fixated on certain franchises and aging players. the 2014 spurs team was exponentially more exciting to watch than this heat roster or what the lakers put out this year.

Unless you're a young kid doing young kid stuff, or a degenerate gambler, San Antonio is no less boring than any other city in the country.

My city used to have character and charm and now it's another NBA city and that's what sucks and makes it boring.

I mean maybe LA and Miami aren't "boring" cities but living in either of those cities would suck. It takes about 20-30 minutes to get anywhere in SA. It takes about 3x-4x that amount of time to navigate LA and Miami. Free agents aren't rushing to go to NY or Philly, or Boston. Players follow the money and I don't give 2 shits about what the media wants.

Wemby is like Kawhi was in terms of living and breathing basketball. I don't think San Antonio is going to be a problem.

And given that there are two French stars that came here and enjoyed their time, the city and franchise are already prepared for him.

Like I've been saying. Mainstream media and fans are incapable of thinking for themselves and will continue to pedal the "Spurs are boring" construct that ESPN largely began successfully brainwashing into said mainstream around the 2003-2004 season.

This has been true for years. Maybe it was boring that no other team stood much of a chance during the Spurs' heyday. 50+ wins every year and in the conversation for a championship 20 straight seasons I guess bored the media. They could simply use the same storyline every season for two decades. Boring...

The Lakers (The Spank-Show) could average 75ppg in route to a 0-82 season, while the Spurs could quadruple-peat via beautiful basketball filled with lots of wonderful ball movement and impeccable strategies, and the media will still consider the Lakers exciting, while the Spurs, boring.

The Spurs are boring narrative will be gone soon. We will see plenty of monster blocks, dunks, alley oops and crazy 3-point shots with the type of players and playing style we got now. It won‘t work this time

There’s some truth to that because of Wemby’s personality vs Timmy. While I think Pop would rather stay under radar and not attract unnecessary distruption. But there’s a lesson to be learned with Kawhi wanting to go to LA (bigger market). The difference was Kawhi was a 15th pick trying to get a better shoe deal, while Wemby is already hyped as the “best prospect since LeBron.” I think anywhere he goes, he brings the “shoe deal” with him. Would he get bigger deals if he plays in LA or Golden State? For sure Lakers/Golden State could afford to pay luxury taxes to surround him with other All-NBA talents. Get a chance to surpass MJ ring count, and be the GOAT by doing so? It will be interesting how the Spurs ownership will be willing to pay to support that.

Agreed after a certain age LA and NYC loses its luster since these are cities primarily for young people when it comes to clubs and night life. When you are 40 plus you are just out place when it comes to that stuff. This is why I always look at the media people who get emotional as idiots when the NBA finals isn't in NYC, LA, Miami. I'm thinking you guys are 40 plus old guys pretending to still be 20-year-old guys missing out on spring breaks. I believe low key some of these media guys pay for escorts in these big cities hence why they are salty when the NBA finals are not in these big cities.

One thing that makes the Spurs “boring” is that we rarely have terrible off court drama that the media loves.
I mean, Memphis is not boring right now, but who wants to be interesting in that way?

It's strange we were called boring, but the Warriors took our play style(from Steve Kerr), shot 35-40 three pointers per game on illegal screens and that was fun to watch for some reason.

I would say it was the Disney Marketing that made the very popular combined with their 3-star players loving media exposure in Curry, Draymond, Klay. The Spurs big 3 was the complete opposite and didn't seek media exposure. Also, Steph looking like a 10-year-old makes him very marketable to the casual fan.

I agreed with you on that I never found the Warriors style of basketball entertaining.

When the media calls your city "boring", what they really mean is they can't readily get a hold of kids to molest or addicts to abuse and murder.

Basically the human trafficking scene is still very pedestrian.

You know that the spurs were called often boring but so was Denver and look what they did. NBA Champs. In fact during the Denver - fakers series, 75% of the conversations were about he fakers and all they did was get smoked silly 4 games to none.

Like Denver, we may not be flashy, but in the end we got the chip, unlike the fakers who were left crying, griping and complaining about the refs (we see you Lebronto soreass) or dreaming about a vacation (rest of the team). There's always next year.

I would say it has to do mainly with the city not having a good escort scene along with not having celebrities and famous people for these 40-year-old plus media guys to hang out with.

Not sure why spurs fans get offended…its just a matter of perspective…

l.a. and ny and sf are nice places to live if you are a young single millionaire baller…

they are more exciting than san antonio or any other place in texas…but not everyone is a single 20 something gazzillionaire

and when anyone watches a nba game the court is still the same court in every nba city…its not like you want to watch a game and say,

“uh, where is this playoff game being played?” “Oh, lakers playing in okc (which is even more boring than s.a.) nah- im not watching that game unless it being played in l.a.!”

if you are a half way intelligent human- you are never bored - no matter where you live…

Never understood how NFL people never complain about Green Bay yet somehow San Antonio lacks anything interesting. NBA players can afford a helipad so they can get a quick ride to the airport. Problem solved.

I feel like this argument is going in two directions.

San Antonio (as a city) is pretty fucking boring. And I say that as a native San Antonian who spent my first 21 years there. It's a nice family town with cool things like Fiesta Texas, Sea World, the Riverwalk, and...I don't know, the Snake Farm? Yes, there are adult things to do...but I don't blame anybody who would rather live in California or New York or Miami for "entertainment"

Spurs basketball (and our team right now) isn't that boring to me. Sure, maybe in the late 90s-early 2000s when we were playing "screech it to a halt" defense, but the Spurs introduced The Beautiful Game and in the past 3-5 years have had plenty of young, dynamic players to showcase.

Anyone who wants to say that the way the Spurs play basketball is "boring" has not been paying attention.
