BREAKING: The Qatar Investment Authority is buying a minority stake in Monumental Sports & Entertainment — the parent company of the Washington Wizards (NBA) & Capitals (NHL).

That makes them the first sovereign wealth fund to invest in a major US sports team.

For those who don’t already know, the NBA recently loosened its rules to allow pension funds, endowments, and sovereign wealth funds to buy minority stakes in individual NBA teams.

This is the first deal — but it most certainly won’t be the last.

Wizards are on quite the run here.

OUT: Beal, Porzingis
IN: Poole, no firsts, human rights abusers

I guess you can't fire the owners.

I don't have an issue with Arab World getting involved in our sports but yah we should probably tone down the virtuous messaging.
