That dude was a consensus top 5 pick and he ended up #20 at our in-state division rival. Ugh. Dude is a baller and is going to be a perennial all star. Actually was one of the more well spoken dudes in his draft interview. I don't get the character concerns. He's got the most NBA ready body in the draft, even more so than say Wemby or Scoot, and he's ready to bully people and score, be physical, play some defense, get to the foul line often and be an all star right out of the box.

Ugh... and so many opportunities to trade up into the teens with a bunch of future seconds plus #33 which we didn't end up using anyway. Still could have had that same guy at 44 tonight too. Ugh.

I agree. Spurs need to get some true players and not these namby pamby foreigners acceptable to the burbs.

Why did 19 others pass on him? Gsw, lakers, heat in win now mode. Okc didn’t pick. Went to a crappy rockets team with no values. Not picking on the player yet he fell for a reason.

There's always that one guy fans jizz over and he ends up being a bust.

Jonathan Givony said on ESPN after the draft that not only were his medicals questionable because of a knee cartilage issue, more importantly, he said he thought he slipped because he was underwhelming this season at Villanova, as well as the fact that during the pre-draft process, Givony was told my multiple teams that Whitmore was way too cavalier during workouts and interviews. Like he was just sort of going through the motions. Givony said a lot of teams wondered if he was taking this seriously or if this is just his attitude general. They were turned off by it, on top of the fact that he underachieved a bit this year.

^^^

On top of the above, his assist/TO ratio is absurdly bad. He has tunnel vision to an extreme. Worse, he's a ballstopper. He'll get the rock, stare down the defense before finally making a move and it's usually blundering all the way to the basket because he can't see his teammates. His basketabll IQ is very questionable. He's perfect with the other chucklefucks in Houston.

Win now teams passed at a supposed top 5 guy. Can’t blame the spurs for not trading up for him. Wish him the best

Good group workouts, bad individual ones, bad interviews. Supposedly some medicals, as well. As I posted in another thread, he was like a 100M sprinter who didn't see anyone in his peripherals, decided to coast the last 6-8 meters, and got passed by 3 other sprinters, losing out on a medal. He thought he was locked in to the top 10, with asparations of top 5, but he didn't seem to take the process seriously.

[Dejounte, you can skip this part, since you dislike Dean and numbers]

The trouble with Whitmore is that he also has one of the lowest basketball IQ’s in the draft, as he has a microscopic assist rate with an A:TO < 0.5. For undersized NCAA bigs converting to big wings, this is historically a red flag that has been present in busts such as Anthony Bennett, Jabari Parker, Derrick Williams, and Michael Beasley.
