Yes, we do actually have a game tomorrow. It’ll be a battle between the two best young teams in the NBA, and likely fierce rivals for years to come.

It’ll also be Blake Wesley’s last chance in summer league to redeem himself.

He’s just got to do a better job of picking where/when he scores, and where/when to pass. He didn’t play a lot last year. I think he can be like DJM, and of course that’ll take more time. Maybe more time than we have to give on the Wemby Timeline

Come on, Blake. I don't believe in you, but I'm rooting for you.

At a certain point, we gotta call a spade a spade.

Not saying he can't improve and carve out a career...but he's going to be more of a Cory Joseph, not a Murray or White (and definitely not a Parker or Manu)

I would not be surprised if he sees plenty of time in Austin this next season.

I think we’ve got a pretty good sample size on what kind of player Wesley is. He’s an extremely fast undersized shooting guard with mediocre handles and the court vision of a mole. He has improved at finishing around the rim such that his getting blasted is less about inability than it is about making poor decisions. His decision-making will improve over time, but he’ll never see the floor like even Cissoko does.

I don't remember if it was said on here or reddit, but someone said summer league is full of guys trying to get a job as CEO of a company, when all that company wants to do is hire a janitor. That's Blake Wesley in a nut shell.

Sidy is honeslty surprising me. I had his very raw offensive game and shooting correct, I had his good defense correct but his playmaking is a pleasant surprise. Guess the G League didn't allow him to showcase that part of his game.

And just when I say that, he has a monster dunk... he might make the big team.

it's not because they got the green light that you have to play stupid basketball wth 20 seconds to play and the win still not secured. The first goal in BB is to win, not shoot. Sure it's just SL but still, show you're smart and you get it... Just make shooting drills otherwise, the guy was on an island.

That was a terrible shot, end of story. Anybody, including the commentators, thought the same... Dude, run the clock, why the hell you're shhooting the ball now. you're not impressing anybody with that shot.

Well yeah, he's 25 in 6 months. that's 5 years more of BB than lots of these kids out there. He's an adult among teens. That would be worrynig he wasn't a bit developed and polished. But there's probably not much room for improvement and you don't want to still be in SL at 24.

yeah, i still have questions about his long term fit given his defense and off-ball ability, but he's still pretty green. think in a perfect world, he and branham run the second unit against opposing backups. he'll still be starting this year, no doubt, but just thinking outlook beyond this season

I do understand the agreement on seeing Keldon as the odd man out now that we have Wemby but...

I think Wemby is going to make Keldon allot better just by taking the attention and pressure off of him, and Keldon in return is going to keep the defense honest enough to help free up Wemby. I guess only time will tell how well they gel and compliment each other. At least give it a chance untill deadline and if there is something there that might make us better then of course it would be right to go for it.

I just see Keldon still has a great 2nd or 3rd option to have and I'm not ready to give up on that yet.

im in the camp that doesnt project keldon as a long term fit but the book isn't closed on him. we can see if his efficiency gets better playing alongside a wemby. he's still 23 and can add to his game. he's entering year 1 of a 4 year contract so has plenty of time to prove himself

Dieng != Wesley:

Ousmane Dieng's Summer League progress 2022->2023
Ousmane has made significant leaps compared to last year.

2022 Summer League Stats (3 games played)
7.3ppg/3.7rpg/0.7apg/0.3spg on 40.9/18.2/50 splits

2023 Summer League (7 games played)

Is summer league definitive for determining a player’s growth? I thought people mostly looked at regular season numbers year to year. Summer league says some things, sure. But i dont know about closing the book on players who have underwhelming summer performances.

No, the environment is much different than in the NBA, where role, playing time, and situation is much different. I think you can see some trends in how a player is developing that can be exciting to see. They don't necessarily mean a leap has been made or will happen.

When a young player has a list of things to work on during the offseason, particularly when he is being worked into a new position that he has never played, there are certain metrics you watch for in summer league, which gives you an idea of his progress.

When a player comes into summer league showing close to zero improvement in every area, when many people were expecting him to potentially be a backup at his new position, it's cause for concern, even if it's not definitive.

We’re not arguing if it’s a cause for concern or not. In fact, it is. This is all continuing off the thread that ex brought up about hypocrisy around making decisions based off definitive assessment of summer league play. This is that.

It's funny how other teams players who put up shit numbers just need some development time, but we need to cut Wesley immediately because he didn't show out in 37 games.

I never said Wesley had to be cut.
