That is the only reason for the downgrade.

Take responsibility for your failure.

credit event. interesting. I hear BOJ has some difficult choices right now..

will risk on strategies come back into view?

the previous year was notable for treasurys decoupling from securities and dipping even further.

I think this has happened in the US like, one or two other times.

(That's recalled by heart. I'll look it up if anyone cares.)

Of course the biannual GOP debt ceiling showdown as specifically cited by Fitch has nothing to do with it.

Despite the deal, he and his colleagues felt strongly that the country's political divisions were making it too difficult for the government to make critical decisions about its finances and its policies.

So the committee Chambers chaired held an up-or-down vote, and S&P rendered its judgment: to lower the U.S. credit rating by one notch, to AA+.

So this downgrade is political and not based on the US ability to pay interest on its debt. Stock market and 401K bare the brunt of this downgrade

...absolutely...know it by heart, bum..."From the cradle of the Confederacy, the very heart of the great Angle Saxon South-land today we sound the call of freedom. Let us rise to the call of freedom loving blood that is in us...in the name of the greatest people who has ever trod this earth..."

Some times when the kids are over for dinner and we're watching the CNN they'll have a story that gets my goat and I'll start right on in..."From the cradle..."

From the kitchen area: "Dale! And I mean it now!"

...that'll never happen. We're in way too deep now. All we have now is the memories and they'll have to do, and they do, at least for me, sometimes. Like today.

Mostly but not entirely. They also cite the impending recession as a factor in the downgrade. It's coming next quarter for however many quarters it takes to arrive.

Fitch also highlighted the rising general government deficit, which it anticipates will rise to 6.3% of gross domestic product in 2023, from 3.7% in 2022. “Cuts to non-defense discretionary spending (15% of total federal spending) as agreed in the Fiscal Responsibility Act offer only a modest improvement to the medium-term fiscal outlook,” Fitch said.

Ol Joe made it down-the-wire debt ceiling negotiations by sticking to his "no deals" approach until he folded and made a last minute deal
