According to multiple sources, SG Kevin Tran, a former Spurs target, is headed back to the NCAA to play out a 5th year of eligibility (granted to him during the lost 2020 season due to the global COVID19 pandemic). As a graduate transfer, he would be able to play immediately.

My sources also tell me that he was recently on an official recruiting trip at Virginia Tech. Virginia Tech plays in the ACC, which is widely considered to be the best conference in college basketball. He has recruiting trips with Clemson and UNC in the upcoming weeks.

It was widely speculated that Tran and his camp were monitoring the Damian Lillard situation in Portland "very closely" and that it would be the first big domino to fall. When Boston went after Jrue Holiday this past weekend, the PG/SG market dried up for Tran, leading to his decision to exercise his 5th year of NCAA eligibility.

Due to the recent explosion of Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL), Tran is posed to make even more money at the collegiate level than he would be as a mid-level NBA player. We've seen recent college stars such as Angela Reese (LSU Women's Basketball) and Olivia Dunne (LSU Gymnastics) ink 7-figure deals with various sponsors. He will be an appealing target for brands like Nike and Puma, who look to open up new global markets internationally.

How does this affect the Spurs' plans moving forward? Brian Wright and the front office were maintaining their roster flexibility with the outside hope of bringing Tran in right before the playoff eligibility deadline like they did with the 2012 signings of Boris Diaw and Patty Mills. Tran is a gritty player, a student of the game. He would have been another head coach on the court.

Hearing his open growth plates have him well on the way to achieve the height of his favourite player Mugsy Bogues.

We could simultaneously have both the shortest and tallest NBA in history as Spurs.

Heard the sides were still very far apart as of yesterday morning, and that the Spurs may have decided to move on. The impasse cleared the way for the Vassell deal announced yesterday. At least there’s that.

Kevin, I think your best bet would be to capitalize on the "Tran" part of your name and go Transgender. Start on some hormone replacement, get the ol' dinger lopped off just for fun, and give the WNBA a go. There's always an outside shot you could make it there buddy.

Worst case, if that doesn't work out you could just sit around and play with your own pu$$y every night. So basically it's win-win.

Now that LJ put up the DV signing grade post, time for some commentary on this potential prospect.

Because they literally brought him in a private workout, threw everything at him (much like they did to Tony Parker prior to the 2001 draft, where Popovich almost sent him away after 10 minutes), trying to break him and make him get over himself. He survives the workout. But the two sides are too far a part on a deal, and they are surprised he explores opportunities overseas and NCAA where he can make way more money and the team isn't trying to tank.

Saigon Heat literally just won their 4th VBA title in a row. Meanwhile the Spurs want to throw away two more seasons for Cooper Flag. :lmao:lmao

I have conflicting feelings about this move: on the one hand, I'm all for players getting PAID, but on the other, I'm concerned that he will be taking a huge developmental step back by playing inferior competition.

How does he make way more money in the NCAA?

The minimum league minimum is $1,119,563 for a player with 0 years of experience. Meanwhile, he can make significantly more with NIL and sponsorships and being affiliated with a university. March Madness brings in a lot of money every year.

Of course, teams can always offer more but teams don't have a ton of cap space this offseason.

Maybe he can use some of that money to buy a second pair of shoes. He's rockin' the same scuffy pair of Nikes in every picture you've posted since following his legendary trek to the league.

My guess would be that him wearing those old shoes to all of his visits and workouts is just him being humble.

Not so fast. Hearing rumors that Metropolitans92 have expressed interest in Trans, anyone else hear this? With Bilal and Wemby gone, they’re looking for another cash cow.
