View Full Version : The Marzipan Confection of Cedi Osman

Osman only has one year left on his contract, at $6.7 million, and at 28 years old he's Methuselah on this roster, but he looked great with Doug McDermott off the bench in the first preseason game. I see how his game fits what Pop wants to do -- get guys slashing, moving around, making quick passes and decisions.

The Spurs got a 2nd round pick for absorbing his salary/facilitate the Miami-Cleveland trade of Max Strus, but I believed the Spurs wanted to keep him. He's known to be hot-and-cold, but as a bench asset that's perfectly fine.

Here's to Jeddy.

Haven't watched pre-season, but I thought he did a decent job in Cleveland tbh

I actually liked what I saw. He's a vet who plays smart basketball, can pass, shoots from the range and likes to mix it inside also.

But I guess he's not exempted when they decide who to move in the trade deadline for some picks, Graham, Doug, Cedi

interested to see how the rotation shakes out at full strength...he and doug are both on expirings and fill a similar role. Without taking Doug's skillset for granted as a knockdown shooter and cutter, I think Cedi can do a lot of the same things with the benefit of being a little younger, having a bit more shot creation in his bag, and providing more defensively but I'll need to see more.

Good problem to have. Doug stays healthy and we might be able to cash in.

Osman looked good and is a useful counter for teams with similar sized white guys with floppy hair and the capability to be annoying like that guy OKC had. It is important to have a large white wing player with good size and physicality in that regard. It better enables us to effectively counter any annoying type of thing other teams will throw at us. While Doug has a little of that, his hair is too short and he is more of a finesse player by comparison.

Not knowing much about him I thought he was just trade fodder but the dude looked better and more aggressive than I expected.

He played well against the Spurs when Cleveland visited last year. He seemed more Spursy than Bullock.

yep. bullock fits into the more traditional 3&D archetype, while Osman is a much better connector piece, but by extension, a little harder to define an exact role for

Not a huge Osman fan, but he seems to be in the team's plans moving forward at some level.

I still think he'll be a deep bench guy most of the time but he's serviceable and I agree that his play style fits what Pop likes

Yeah I agree.. it's the floppy hair. Manu had one too and it was glorious

He hustles, which will in him points.

He hustles in order to get back in order to get dunked on, thus he is over himself. More points.

When I saw him and Doug on the floor playing off each other, it reminded me of Marco and manu coming off the bench, cutting and passing. It was beautiful.

Cedi has what the team mostly lacks -- veteran savvy. He's seen every situation already. He knows how to produce when things are going badly.

Perfect bench player. His toughness and defense has impressed me so far. Crazy how he was just dumped to us.

Talking with Cavs fans, he was a favorite with them, but they badly needed a starting volume three-point shooter. Osman may be better suited to a toolsy bench role, and his shooting can be wildly hot and cold. For us, he's a great fit.

To me, getting a needed vet bench piece AND a second round pick for using cap space to help two other teams make a trade in another conference is a fantastic bit of business.

Maybe I’m off base, but Cedi looks exactly the archetype of what Toronto hopes Grady Dick will become (though with a higher ceiling). Glad he’s on our team, and I can see why the FO has seemingly been enamored with him for awhile.

PrimeMinister

the bar defensively is doug mcdermott and offensively he takes open shots when the ball comes to him and hits them with consistency

spurraider21
10-28-2023, 03:33 PM
Obviously we’re going to love him when his 3pt shot is this hot. But he seems to be doing enough of the other stuff as well. He’s historically an ok shooter

Too early to make a broad sweeping statement after Pre season and two games, but I'm going to anyways
This team just might be a good fit. He's not a star, but seems to fit perfectly in his role.

I've often wondered about certain players if they had landed in a certain spot they would have had a better career

the magic works the other way around as well. I don't think Murray moving to another team is helping his career.

When landing to SA he said his game would flourish under Pop, he was right. Hopefully he keeps it that way !

could definitely see the Spurs resign him with how well he's playing

Perry Mason
11-05-2023, 03:35 PM
My hot take: Cedi is going to become a key piece for the Spurs and an in-demand role player when his contract comes up (a la Danny Green and the like). Pop may experiment with him in the starting lineup as well from time to time.

Perhaps this will be considered blasphemous, but Cedi gives me late career Manu vibes when he's out there. He just seems to do all the little things and is in the right place at the right time much more often than not.

Same. He'll never be prime Manu, but he's still got that natural born basketball killer in him, like from the post 2008 era Manu.

I think the collision/lost rebound vs Rapts was just one of those things that happens in a tight ball game at the end with a new squad. 9/10, either he secures it or realizes Wemby has it. I'm still a big fan and I hope he keeps up the gutsy play.

SpurSpike

This may seem crazy but why not try Cedi Osman as the point guard? He has played the position in the past a few years back with the Cavs when they didn't have much depth at that position. I mean fuck it we are experimenting with the position anyways.

He has the court vision and passing ability, and is a threat from deep. Not sure about his speed and handles. Would be interesting to watch some old Cavs games to see how well he preformed at the point.

The one bright spot on this piece of shit lineup (outside of Wemby).
