Start of a long and prosperous competition we hope. With Victor getting just as many if not more Ws and Championships then Timmy did vs Dork.
No disrespect to Chet.

Chet does seem a little salty here. With good reason? Eh i think he's just kidding.

Looking fwd i think these are going to be the #1 - #2 best NBA players for years to come.
Thrilled we got Wemby. Had we gotten Chet the year before i would have been stoked too.

Long story short when the two actually go head to Wemby wins. But I do like Chet’s aggressiveness sets a good example for Wemby to follow and surpass.

I liked what I saw from Wemby but Chet put up the better, more efficient numbers. His team also won, which is what matters the most. Im not sure how often Chet guarded Wemby but we know Collins couldnt handle Chet. That was embarrassing.

I'd love to see a good old school big-man battle develop between these two, like Robinson vs Hakeem or Duncan vs Shaq.

Obviously I want to see the Spurs be on the winning side of it, but the NBA needs more star big men instead of a bunch of midgets jacking up threes all the time.

OKC should be a good rivalry in the coming years. Chet had the advantage of some training camps and sitting on the bench for a year, so the fact that Wemby was able to go toe-to-toe with him in his first preseason game is promising.

That OKC team with Holmgren is scary. And he looks like a much better player than he was coming out of the draft last year. Ridiculous that they're only going to be on ESPN four times this year and TNT four times. Gonna have to go hit up the pirate streams this season because they're going to be a can't miss team.

Yeah as it happens, okc is my #1 team and sa is my #2 team. Wil try to watch every game for both teams this year but that may be really hard with a one year old. I like Chet and Wemby equally. But OKC has the much better roster currently between the two.

By the way, here is an incredibly good analysis of the two players during this matchup on YouTube:

Chet is ahead now but Wemby will have the higher ceiling. First off, Wemby will be much stronger. He has the frame to put on the weight and muscles. Chet, not so much. Wemby is the better athlete. The guy is serious about his body, you see him doing those stretches? Team mates? OKC had 3 MVP’s and produced zero ring, so I’m not that impressed if they seem to have the better roster now. Wemby is in a better organization which will only help him maximize his potential. So yeah, Wemby and Spurs >>> Chet and OKC.

Chet should be ahead of Wemby now. He is 2 years older which matters a lot between 19and 21. Not so much between 23 and 25. I really like Holmgren. I thought Orlando made a mistake passing on him, but long term it is clear Wemby will be the better player.

They seem like they really don’t like each other that much based off of the actions during the game and comments after the game. Gives the rivalry an old school feel, and it will be fun to watch.

Two years is a huge deal when you’re 19. Man vs boy. Give Wemby those two years and it won’t be a fair fight come 2026 and onward.

Due to his age Chet is more polished. He was more efficient in this game. If both were in the same position, I would have Chet as my pick for RoY. But OKC has a 30 ppg scorer in their ranks so I can see Wemby having better stats and become RoY. Of course there is also Scoot ...

Despite all that I look forward to a lot of duels between those two guys. Hope both stay healthy!

I’m not all that convinced Chet is a guy you build around. He’ll be a stat stuffer for sure, but unless he either becomes a dominant defensive presence or becomes drops 30 a night… then I don’t think he’ll reach MVP levels. To me, he’s like Embiid-lite without the physicality (for now). He plays a lot like Embiid, IMO. He’s young, so he could get there.

I would agree, that said I don't think OKC is building around him per se.

Holmgren is perfect for OKC. Stan Van Gundy listed his teams in the West last night and had Thunder 11. I don't get it. He also had the Kings like around 9, so maybe he's just an idiot.

Chet only has to clean up after the guards and get to the dunker spot. He'll get lots of outside shots and will be able to rebound and block shots at a high level. Opponents are going to have to adjust to him - we saw how Zach didn't adjust to his height. Victor's role is much different and not as automatic.

Chet is awesome and can be a great #2 on a title team. OKC is in a great position because they already have their #1 and #2 options and enough assets to trade for a third guy. If luka or Embiid asked out for example nobody is beating an offer of giddey, jalen Williams, and a million picks without having to completely gut their roster. Wemby is good enough to be the best #1 option in the league but not sure if vassal or sochan will ever be more than elite #3 guys on title teams. Spurs have to hit again at least once in the next couple drafts.

He is a dominant defensive presence. And he just dropped 20 in 15 minutes. He’s still very young and will get better. We’re not watching a finished product. He’s definitely a high end talent. I liked him #1 last year.

Meh. Chet is two years older, his team is much better, and his responsibilities for what okc needs him to do are way different than what the spurs need wemby to do. OKC just needs chet to make open 3s and be tall under the rim. Spurs need Wemby to do everything.

Gotta give Chet and OKC their props. Their team is in a great situation to improve quickly or let it grow naturally. Chet is a really good player and barring injuries will get even better. Even in college he was pretty tough and physical for being a skinny guy. Gotta love his grit.

OKC had KD, WB, Harden and Ibaka and amounted to zero rings. OKC might look good on paper now, but I’ll put my money on Pop and the Spurs to develop Wemby and Co as championship contenders vs Chet and Co. The Spurs has 5 rings to show for it.

History bears out that somebody -and we probably don't know who at this point- will blow up and become a yearly legit All Star in their own right and play next to Wemby and/or Chet.

I'm hopeful there is a relatively or even complete unknown today who will become GNob - Parker to Wemby in the next 4 years.

Yeah. I've pointed it out before. Presti nails those high-top picks and can nail some later picks - Steven Adams was an incredible pick - and he seems to be doing small pick-ups now that are working, but closing the deal has been hard. It's hard for everybody. It's still astounding that a Harden-Durant-Westbrook core could only make it to the Finals once and they got destroyed. But every one of those players is questionable in their grit.

SGA-Chet-Giddey look really good. J Will was a fantastic pick. Cason could be a great pick. But what's next? It still feels like something is missing.

harden/durant/westbrook trio only played together for 3 seasons, well before any of them were in their primes

made the playoffs in their first year together, lost in 7 in the second round in year 2, and lost in the finals in year 3. then harden left. when they disbanded, Harden was 23, Westbrook was 23, and Durant was 24

to me the criticism isnt how OKC management managed to botch that trio, by prioritizing kendrick perkins over james harden

Once again, Harden was leaving no matter what. Keep in mind he wasn't a starter in that team and not everyone is Manu. Harden wanted to be DA man in a big market team, with the perspective of bigger contracts donw the road. Not the kind of guys to "sacrifice" cash or personal accolades. He got his MVP trophy that he wasn't getting in OKC and there wasn't enoug room in that team for prime Russ and Harden respective egos

I doesn't make it sound like it, that is what happened. Forget the "bro" public stories, Harden wanted to leave and his own team. I believe we know enough of the guy now to understand that, as one of the most egotic, self-centered player in NBA history who asked out 4 times in his career and just threw a GM under the bus, there's no way he was OK not to start and split his stats/glory with Russ and KD... Harden wanted to be the star of his own team on a big market, and he wanted the MVP trophies that he wasn't getting in OKC... But people can believe if they want that James "me, myself and I" Harden was OK to spend his prime years as 3rd banana on a small market team.
