The optimist in me says 6-4, the realist in me says 3-7.

Spurs will probably surprise us winning some hard games (like Phoenix or Clippers), but then will also drop an egg or two against teams like the Raptors or Pacers.

I think this team has the talent (with Wemby) to hang in most of these games, but we have yet to see him against ACTUAL NBA competition. Preseason is close and he has looked great, but still is not the same as going against actual NBA rotations who are trying to win games.

I expect growing pains, so I'll go with 3-7 and hope to be surprised.

8-2. Spurs went to a great start last year, until they started losing (tanking).

It’s a bold prediction, but I think they are an 8th or 9th seed. I think they will have a great start, with their big line-up, teams are expecting that “worst” defense from last year. I think teams will not be accustomed to Wemby’s length and quickness at first. They will catch up, until Wemby get much stronger but that’s much later on. For now, the Spurs will catch some by surprise and will result to wins, but teams would adjust as the season progresses and the Spurs would start losing as they are quite still young and inexperienced, but enough wins for the play-in or even an 8th seed.

But yeah, the team is motivated to win and they will have a great start.

Massive loss for them. Sucks. He spent entire second half of last season and the whole offseason trying to rehab without surgery but didn’t get results. Did so to preserve a chance of maybe coming back in a playoff run.

Big questions about how to play a full 48-minutes and raise the play when good teams crank it up.

I think Wemby is a lock to play 30 minutes a game. Heck, he was playing 20 minutes a game preseason and didn't play in the 4th quarters. He'll be on the floor in the 4th quarters. I think he averages around 32 minutes a game this year. I think your 6-4 sounds about right.

yeah, some guys have such ridiculous athletic advantages that there really is no "adjusting" to them

nobody has really been able to adjust to giannis. nobody was able to adjust to shaq. now those guys have been immune to adjustment in large part because of their strength (in addition to their size, length, and agility for their size).

obviously, wemby will do it in a different way. we've seen that nobody has been able to "adjust" to durant's version of offense, and that obviously has nothing to do with strength. you kind of just hope he misses.

and you can only adjust to shotblockers so much. like, we've seen teams simply challenge gobert less over the years. his block numbers have gone down but his defensive presence is still outstanding by most metrics. at some point, by refusing to challenge a shotblocker where you otherwise would, you are taking your offense out of synch to a degree where its not feasible to maintain efficiency over periods of time.

even if teams learn to "avoid" wemby, at least the hyper-active, contest and challenge everything version of wemby that we've seen in the preseason, it would require offenses to contort to such an absurd degree that i cant imagine they would be effective
