Well that escalated quickly...literally. Went from a tropical storm a couple days ago to a Cat 5 at landfall early this morning. Reports are saying Acapulco is in ruins.

This is actually very a typical outcome in such Communist countries. They actually enforce mandatory evacuations.
Similar thing happened with category 5 Hurricane Dean (2007) and category 4 Hurricane Emily (2005). Direct hit, zero or near zero deaths in Mexico.

Most people were likely stuck there. It went from an almost zero threat to a cat 5 in 18 hours.

As the power and communications in Acapulco were down, it took a while before deaths were reported.
About 24 hours later, CNN is reporting at least 27 in Acapulco, Mexico.

Same happened very recently, about 2 wks ago, in Puerto Vallarta.
