That's basically what I was trying to say. Like the Spurs picked a bunch of detrius from the waiver wire. They found out those waived guys were just as good if not better than the guys they had on the roster. But then they assumed that must mean the happened to find some really good players rather than the more reasonable assumption that the guys they had were closer to waiver-wire than anything. That doesn't apply to everyone, obviously. But it does apply to the overall quality of the team's performance. It was not a roster to double-down on.

Completely off topic, but fits with this: Keep an eye on Mitchell after this season. Unlikely to extend, supposedly still has his heart set on New York; Knicks unlikely to be any more interested than they were with Brunson going kaboom. Nets could be, but have no clear pathway to contention.

Spurs would obviously have to get a sense beforehand if he'd be open to re-signing, but if so, Johnson, draft capital and salary relief makes sense for Cavaliers.

It's fine that there is a timeline. Vic needs time to grow and strengthen. Anyone thinking he is '03 Duncan literally right now is delusional. We haven't been determined that he touch the ball every possession, and that IS bad, but I don't know that doing so would lead to 25ppg efficiently anyway. Having a prime Chris Paul right this second might make us a low playoff seed but that doesn't mean much. We'll just draft the playmaker of the future after this season.

I will gladly eat my words given the opportunity in the future, but to me right now, Unintentional Re-Tank is in effect.

To be fair to the players though, I have doubts that they are being properly prepared. It doesn't look like a plan has failed. It looks like there is no plan, as others have said.

Most highly talented prospects spent a few years losing before they turned it around.

I thought the effort in most of the first half was commendable. These young guys can’t overcome being the Clippers chew toy with swallowed whistles and George and Leonard hitting contested threes. That stuff makes any team run out of gas quick. Second half they gave up. I dunno if that’s Pop calling it or their immature attitude, but that’s how it falls for these young guys. If they’re still doing this nonsense by the end of the season, Pop and the front office have to take a long look at the roster and cut ties with some of these young guys that don’t have heart.

First blowout loss and it won't be the last one.

At no point of this offseason, Wright made a move to make the team competitive this season. Even a team like Detroit, 17 wins in 2022-2023, made more to be good this season by trading a second round pick for Monte Morris.
Among the top 4 "dead money" players, 3 (Bullock, Payne and Birch) are paid by Spurs. The other one is Kevin Porter and he has been waived for reasons we all know. Add Primo to that list and Spurs are paying $29M in dead money.

Pop isn't coaching to win. When he decides to start Sochan at PG, he knows damn well that it will hurt a lot the team short term wise. He's ready to sacrifice the current team for a future benefit (which I don't really see, but it's another subject). The whole "letting Wembanyama figuring what he can/can't do by himself" plan, is also hurting the team.

I would really like to know what is the deal with Devonte Graham. He hasn't even played in the garbage time tonight.

-Staples is a massively better arena than Frost Bank Center, both in the infrastructure and the in-game entertainment. The Clippers intro was a West-Coast Rap medley, not YALL READY FOR THIS. It’s like comparing a new BMW to a 1997 Chevy Impala. Hope the Spurs take some notes if a new arena is coming.
-In person, Wemby seems even bigger than he does on TV. Towered over Zubac and Plumlee.

i've been frustrated by Wemby's lack of minutes also but in looking at him last night, you could see how gassed he was. he was getting pushed and beat down in the block all night. it may just be pop getting Wemby's body acclimated to the physicality and speed of the NBA game. i hope that's the case at least.

i think one of the requirements to run the Spurs entertainment and music has to be that you are at least 20 years behind in pop culture.
