Ever since he retired I have had a feeling that Manu would be our next head coach after Pop. He just understands the game and the Spurs culture so well . A coach with no ego . Imagine that .:hat

Thanks a lot for posting. I enjoyed a lot. Manu going to the coaches’ retreat, hmm.. I would love Manu to be Pop’s successor. For sure he knows all the plays and mismatches, etc. He loves still being a part of Spurs, not only living in the city and all. I have a strong feeling he is just studying more and finally he will be an assistant coach soon.. It would not be as tough when Wemby is already the dominant player that he would be with the more experienced cast. Soon..

I was surprised to find how much Timmy hated coaching. Wonder if that's because Pop doesn't listen.

I wasn't. Livin 70+ hours a week as a professional athlete with the training and practice is not the same as 80+ hour a week as a coach sitting in an office going vover film, stats, scheme, schedule, etc before practice.

Cool interview / convo. between Tony and Manu.
I recall somewhere Duncan mentioned not liking coaching because he enjoyed the competitive nature of being on the court and thought he would give it a try being courtside as a coach just didn't give them same feeling.

Timmy hated coaching because it cut into his Starcraft and D&D playing time

Cool interview but Parker keep doing shady business.
His previous shady business thing was with a society called "Smart Good Things" and it's now with Skweek.
For people interested, the story:
- The french biggest basketball team (Monaco) is owned by a Russian billionaire whose money is coming from fertilizer trading.
- This Russian billionaire created a TV channel called Skweek that has TV rights of Euroleague and french league.
- Skweek is now the main sponsor of ASVEL. ASVEL is the second best basketball team in France and its owner is Parker.
- Parker is also working for Skweek with TV shows and interviews like this one.
So much potential conflicts of interest. The second best basketball team in France is sponsored by the owner of the best one and their owner working for him too.

Yep, this is exactly what Tim said. He said it was boring and didn't give him the same rush/feeling.
I really wanted to hear what things TD is into as Manu tried to mention it a few times at the end of the video, but TP sort of cut him off a couple of times before Manu could finish mentioning what they all were (did Manu say running is another thing TD is into?). Does anyone know what other stuff TD is into. I didn't know he was that into hunting (I remember reading years ago that he went hunting with Karl Malone, so I guess that should have told me he was serious about it). I don't really like killing animals, but it's something I've always wanted to try at least once like TP did.

Of course , natural progression is important but I still believe he will be the Spurs Head Coach after Pop. He understands the Spurs Way so perfectly . Even when he played he was always coaching on the court . :worthy:

well, parker has never been classified as a "boy scout" so no surprise there.

well, a lot of "shady business" as you said in France then.
We have the main sport league by far, the french soccer league, whose one of the TV broadcasters is owned by qatar who also own the richest club, the psg, which is in addition financed at a loss by false qatari sponsorship contracts (at one point, the psg salary payroll was worth that of all other clubs combined !!!). Basically, psg owner, qatar, is giving millions to the french league. It was also the case back in the 90's with canal+ and already with the psg who was owned by them.
Crazy to think that the main, or one of the main funder of a sport league is also the owner of a team engaged in the competition. but since it happens in paris, which all the medias and politics are from basically in France, everything seems OK.
The problem in basketball is nothing compared to that.
We're miles away from the NBA when it comes to these kind of things. a lot of shady business, really...
a little bit off topic, but you sounded a little bit harsh with tony in a country where the shenanigans are usual and way worse in many sport leagues...

I'm excited at the idea of Manu as HC, but I'd much rather see the Spurs hire an assistant who actually knows how to teach the game to young players. They need a PJ Carlisimo far more than they need another Pop.

I agree with you that there are a lot of dirty business in french sports and Parker is far from being the worst of the bunch.
I think that Parker is right now a businessman mostly focused on making as much money as possible and who doesn't really care about basketball anymore. In fact, he was ready to sell his team last year. I don't blame him or judge him for being that, he can do whatever he wants with his life. I just don't have any kind of appreciation for that.

:lol Nephew is a taboo subject tbh. Timmy, Manu, Tony all their hall of fame highlights and jersey retirement highlights did not even have a single footage of assists to or assists from Nephew.
