Now that we're nearing 1/4 of the way into the season, and we all can see what we have to put on the floor, predict our final record and draft lottery position.

And for a trifecta, #12 pick from Toronto.

Well, since my preseason prediction is shot to hell, I might as well...
20 wins
Ist pick as the NBA desperately tries to get their future draw more talent...

Below 20 wins and they'll end up picking the last possible pick they could with a terrible record. I also think the Toronto pick doesn't end up conveying.
I want PATFO to feel the absolute most pain from this season tbh :lol

The NBA doesn't care about getting Wemby help in San Antonio, it'd be much easier just to get him out of San Antonio. And so far, this team has made that prospect extremely easy :lol

Except realistically, the pressure point doesn't come until mid-late (6-7 years) second contract, when the looming threat of becoming a UFA can be held over the incumbents head.

Nope :lol
All Wemby has to do is request a trade and this chickenshit organization will acquiesce because "that's not who we are." They're more interested in their perception around the league than actually competing, at least that's the old man's priority. They'd absolutely trade Wemby if he requested it because they're a loser, farm team organization nowadays.

Sure, but can you think of one example of a player of this magnitude doing it that early?

I know the free agency rules have changed but essentially Shaq and he went to the Finals with Orlando :lol
It's a mistake to think that Wemby is more Timmy than Shaq in terms of demeanor , a mistake the FO is currently making tbh.

So what would you do if you were the GM who you trading for? What All Star players are we getting us to win next years Championship- I got my popcorn eagerly awaiting your response and seeing all the free agents you think you can bring in for is to win a title to keep Wemby.

Was that directed at me? :lol
Is the bar = winning the championship next year? Because my bar heading into this season was not drafting a generational talent and being considerably worse than the year before and they couldn't even clear that :lol
Nope :lol

Man, I hate thinking this would be true but my gut says it is. Same as the Kawhi situation, though they'd be apples to oranges on the health front.
They'd give him up for nothing and demand we clap for him when he came back to SA to dominate us.

Yup. The old man showed his cards (at least to the casuals that didn't already know) during that embarrassing grab the mic situation. He has no interest in being competitive, let alone winning. He only cares about how he's perceived. It's a dangerous loser mindset that has been permeating throughout the organization since the Nephew situation.

The arithmetic says 12 wins. Being such a wild optimist, I’ll guess 15 wins. So, 15 and 67.

Wembanyama can't become a UFA after 4 years like O'Neal did. He could accept the QO, but no one of his stature ever does that because they want to secure generational wealth first and can always figure out the rest later.
Wembanyama is definitely not like Duncan, but he's not like O'Neal either. He's somewhere in between.

16 Wins and that's being optimistic. Apparently Pop doesn't realize that all the losses are going to affect his winning pct. We need a trade to move up to at least last years win record. With the addition of Wemby, you would have thought we would have been better.

Yea, but that's a few years down the road...they need to monetize him between now and then..to do so he needs help..

Can you blame him for wanting to get away from this organization if it came to that? I wouldn't support but i can understand if he wanted to take his talents elsewhere.

I say 25 wins only because I believe something happens close to the trade deadline. Back half of the season they put up some wins to secure Wemby ROTY push - while trying not to screw up their draft position.

We look like a 15-67 team at this point, maybe worse. We've had many blown leads this year, so I'm not sure if that's signifying a possibility for a breakthrough at any point in this season. It would be nice to go on a miracle run of some sort, but yeah, nah, probably not happening.

I'm surprised Wemby's camp isn't already putting more pressure on the Spurs (I'm also just assuming they aren't). Our last two #1 picks each set the record for the biggest single season turnaround in NBA history, and while that should not be an expectation, I'm not sure Wemby wants his rookie year to be associated with the Spurs worst record in franchise history (or worse, challenging the NBA record).

They’ll rattle off a few wins in garbage time of the season and give a false hope that they’re “putting it together.” Wemby will also progress so well that Pop won’t even be able to bad rotation his way out of it. As far as lottery, since it’s “luck” I don’t really know. Maybe 3rd?

Shaq wasn't a restricted FA. His 4-year deal was up after '96, and he was unrestricted. That's the difference between him and Wemby. Wemby will be restricted FA after his rookie deal. I will say this you do make a good point that he could still demand a trade during his rookie contract and there is a good chance the organization would cave in knowing how weak they are.

I wouldn't go that far but they are way too conservative.
How much more conservative can they be with all the non moves they made to improve the roster last summer. They weren't assertive at all.
What an excuse to do nothing, to see what they have. They should have known what they had from last year's play.

Damn I thought I was being pessimistic with the 17-65 but I see that's pretty sunshine pumperish.
Definitely not what I expected from this team this year. Really thought we'd see pretty significant defensive improvement. And we have seen that but it's only when Wemby is on the court.
I'm also truly shocked how quickly the wind has been taken out of this team's sails and from those on this board, as evidenced by the dour predictions above.
