Again, Jones is a very nice player but in today NBA you can’t have guys that are so bad from the outside. If he doesn’t improve his shot he’ll be out of the league at the end of this contract
mismanagement
spurs have known for years that he cant shoot 3’s
yet they rewarded his shitty shooting with an extension $$

If the Spurs screw this up, they need to be relegated to the WNBA tbh.

Saw the stadium home feed, not the TNT game feed. Which was focused on the Spurs bench every break. And Wemby looked frustrated as hell on the sideline. Pop wasn't even involved in drawing up the final play...an assistant did it. Wemby grabbed the Board from the assistant, forcibly, and re-drew a play.
The fact Pop wasn't involved and Wemby got animated...Wow. Just Wow.Damn. Wonder if we're ever going to get that video. Wonder how long we're going to keep him around.

Only got to listen to the radio, and missed the 3rd and the first half of the 4th, but sounds like it was a good competitive game! One data point not enough to draw conclusions, but I'll be watching the +/- with Tre as a starter versus the other mutilated lineup combinations we've been throwing out there.

What fantastic game and effort by spurs.
Took 2 Giannis threes , spurs missing 2 wide open threes to lose this game.
Vassell, Wemby and Johnson all played standout game's. Still required a total team effort. Jones and osman were key contributors. Barlow played well too. When he got injured Giannes teally took advantge of the soft middle.

I'd consider the season a wash if Devin played even at 75% of what we saw tonight tbh. I don't understand why he doesn't attack the cup more, he's crafty down there.

Spurs survive the 3Q collapse trend in a big way tonight
Wemby went nuclear, Dev was on fire, even KJ contributed
SA slowly getting better, tonight was very promising and the future looks bright

End of his rookie contract is long enough to see if the Spurs are capable of putting a team capable to compete. He doesn't look like the guy who will be happy with a huge paycheck if he keeps losing.

Yes Barlow really broke out tonight and showed it all. Blocked Giannis at the rim, does a bit of everything, rim protection, mid range jumper, steals, great screens. Looking like an excellent small ball center at what, age 20?

I think they will put a better team around Wemby, start winning more, and Pop will retire all around the time Wemby is deciding to re up or not. I think it will largely depend on how much he likes the city, and he will be glad for the experience of playing for Pop even if it had its share of hiccups.

And anyone see why Middleton left at the half?
Hope Barlow gets back quickly, could be a silver lining to an abysmal season to get him leveled up

No one said they needed to be a playoff team. But I don’t think being 5-29 was part of the team’s plan even though the sniffers can spin all the BS they want about them doing it to tank for a PG in the next draft. I think even they didn’t expect to be as bad they are. And what is there to be optimistic about when our only good draft picks of the last few years have been Wemby and Vassell. Should we even trust this front office to make good draft picks anymore?
Just because Wemby is a nice guy doesn’t mean he won’t leave if the team doesn’t surround him with good players. Shit we almost lost Timmy to Orlando . Pop dicking around with his minutes restrictions like he’s Tim Duncan also isn’t helping with morale. You don’t need “get over yourself” moments when your team only has 5 wins.

It’s funny because early in the game they had Sochan guarding Giannis and I was like no way in the world get Barlow in there. He would be a perfect matchup and I was actually right for a change.

This. The team we saw tonight could be competitive in every game and, with a season or two of seasoning, could be something. If they’re not bringing it consistently like this, that has to be a mental problem on the part of people like Devin and Keldon. The one thing they can control is their energy level. Devin takes games off and doesn’t consistently attack the rim like he did tonight.
My prayer to Allah is that this loss teaches them something about what they could be if they played like tonight consistently. Too bad Allah doesn’t exist.

There is little point to fretting and of course the team record is an unexpected disaster. But, it is what it is as they say. You are either NBA champs or not and nobody expected that. We do need to hit on some draft picks, no doubt, and upgrade with a couple quality vets.
My vote is draft Bronny James then bring in his dad to play with him too.

very diseased psychology
play first half equal
fall back 16 in 3rd qtr (yawn)
make a 20 point swing,
then lose in last 4 minutes.
can't make plays, can't make shots,
missed SO MANY LAYUPS, weak finishers
8 mins left, Pop pulls VW, a great move to tank the game. VW tired? 19 yo? played 17 less mins than greek freek

I agree, but sometimes he gets too crafty when he should be using his moves to draw more fouls. It’s clear that there is some good DDR influence to his game, but now he just needs to draw the fouls too. That would be the next evolution of his game (in addition to better playmaking!). Victor should make some of those difficult shots easier for him in time too.

Ding, ding, ding. I like Pop but there is enough talent on this team to play much better and win more games, and that is on him he’s having a bad year doing some of the stupid lineup shit. 1996 Gregg would have fired 2023 Gregg by now for losing the team. Wemby's actions the last two games and Vassell's post game comment about Tre starting seem to point to the player being over this dumb shit.

I think there's a chance that he doesn't sign or takes the qualifying offer if the team is egregiously bad for the next 3 years with sub 30 win seasons all 4 years of his rookie contract. If he feels like Lebron in Cleveland for example where he has no dependable help whatsoever. But the more likely scenario is that he suffers through this year on a 15 win team, next year the team wins 25-30 games, his third year the team probably makes the play-ins with 35-40 wins, and his 4th year team is probably a 6 seed at 45 wins. By that time he'll be 23, Vassell 27, Sochan will be 24, and he'll have some talented 2nd and 3rd year players surrounding him. No way he asks out in that scenario unless Brian Wright drafts Josh Primo for 3 straight years.
The only wrinkle in this is really OKC. There's a very real chance that Chet wins a title before Victor even sniffs the playoffs and Presti has built a buzzsaw in OKC that will contend for at least the next 10 years around SGA/Chet/JDub. If victor can't see a reasonable path where he can match up with OKC and Chet because of the talent gap, he will probably leave or ask out. It'll be like how Lebron left Cleveland when he figured out that he could never get past Boston because of the talent gap.
You want to lose our top three draft pick?
In a mediocre at best draft, yes, if it means improvement and consistent effort like we saw tonight. Are you that thirsty for Matas Buttfuck or whatever his name is?

There are silver linings, Barlow the real deal, Wesley needs minutes, and so on. Also Sochan has been shooting well from 3 and Tre has hit some too. Wemby came in and didn’t exactly take over, rather saw from Giannis what it takes to win during crunch time while also further building his own confidence and reinforcing that you win and lose as a team.
Unfortunately the 2 worst shooters were shooting at the end. Bum Sochan taking mid range and 3s sealed it. I’m ok with the Tre 3 but not ideal

If that was the play Wemby drew up, it was actually a pretty good one. Tre was wide open.
The fact Tre shouldn't have been on the court and maybe Osman or someone else who can shoot "better" 3's, wasn't Wemby's fault. Pop put the players out there. The fact is, the play worked...the player didn't.

I agree he is. But if his team is worse and he keeps losing to Chet, he's going to get pissed that the front office can't get him some help. Lebron was bigger and badder than pierce and garnett but he still left because the cavs sucked ass. If the front office sucks ass and can't put up similar talent around Wemby to let him win against OKC down the road, you'll see another generational talent leave.

Looked like that last play was a DHO or screen for Dev by Wemby can't recall
Wemby coming off had a split second open window and Dev was covered so Dev gave it back to Wemby who got contested too soon by the Bucks forcing him to swing it to the corner for an open Jones because he's a 20% 3shooter and Bucks did their homework forcing the ball to the statistical worst option
If Jones hits Milwaukee will live with that every time, still the best strategy
Perfectly executed by Milwaukee
Wemby should have just shot it. Yeah he was picked up but it was Dame cant he just shoot over a PG? Doubt the play was designed to be a Jones corner 3 lol but Jones was open enough (again Bucks left him open on purpose imho) and it was a good look so I'm okay with it

Jones is a good player. Knows how to run an offense and is one of the three statistically above average defenders on this team. Basically only Wemby, Devin, and Tre, everyone else getting rotation minus is a traffic cone or worse defensively from Sochan (terrible, bottom third of the league) to Branham (bottom 4 defender in the league among players who gets regular minutes). This season is not on Tre Jones and I'm not going to hate on him for not being a three point shooter when he does two critically important things for this team well.

Not playing Branham or Doug was a small but huge improvement for the team. Branham is a 6th man and we already have Keldon. I'm rooting for Branham in general but he doesn't have a role on this team for the future unless he actually becomes a a shooter.

Didn't see that Wemby was on the verge of fouling out as well.

Wemby ain’t turning down the years or money on a max rookie extension. No one does. Maybe he gets pop or wright fired. Maybe he forces his way out in year 7 or 8. But he isn’t turning down the extension and the big pay day. People bring up Tim almost going to Orlando or Shaq going to LA but that was over two decades ago and without the new extension rules. No superstar wants to be ringless. The only thing a young superstar wants less is to be making less money than he could be. He may leave at some point. He may force his way out at some point. But it isn’t going to be during or immediately after his rookie contract.

I meant his best fit if he improves is as a 6th man, not point guard. But yeah he could be a 3rd stringer. Hopefully he improves even if played out of position at the moment.

I like Tre Jones, but he’s normally overpowered by the other team’s starting PG. As raw as Wesley is, he’s a much better defender and imo the best POA defender of the team. He has shown great poise compared to last season. His dribble penetration is creating assists if not for him, but creating connecting pass. It’s not a popular take, but the Spurs problem is not offense but defense and sustaining leads, and that’s where Wesley could help.

lol in thinking that this kid will wait 4 years to "win", if this team is not competitive by year 3 he is leaving, no doubt.

Didn't include Wesley since he really isn't in the rotation but yeah he's elite defensively in his limited minutes and I'd much rather see him play than Branham who is hopelessly bad.

wesley leading the break with wemby past the ft line asking for the ball for a highlight dunk
