There isn't any other sport where the importance of coaching is as relevent. Not even close. They literally call every play. It is as close as playing a videogame as it gets in professional sports. That's why the player GOAT debate is so relative in the NFL. The only guy I could have comfortably said could have been the GOAT if he would have won enough was Peyton, because he literally was the offensive playcaller.

Whereas way back they'd formulate the game plan during the week and then on Sunday the QB would call the plays, on-the-spot, in the huddle.

And there were cracks along the way in the second half where SF could not conduct a professional huddle, getting into it and out of it and to the line in a strict manner without eyeballing the GD shot clock. That was a (tell) that the Chiefs took note of for certain.

Also the McCaffrey fumble near the red zone.

...amen. It was never the same after that. The Chiefs found/saw something in the preceding fortnight of film study that they viewed as an opportunity with McC and (it) presented itself on-the-field.

Ya and the McC fumble was very early, plenty of time to recover which they did.

The muffed punt came at 10-6 and was a huge assed 180 degree turnaround.
