Posted in the Barlow thread, but for those wondering: Barlow was officially converted to a standard deal…hence the open two-way spot.

Can Barlow or Bouyea throw an entry pass to a wide open Wemby?

In retrospect, after reflection, could this be that turning point in the Spurs' reemergence, that magical moment?

Probably not.

Spurs 3 two-way players (Bouyea, Gray and Duke Jr.) are born in 1999 while the oldest Spurs starter is Tre Jones who is born in 2000. Other Austin Spurs players are also all born in the 90's. Austin Spurs are objectively an older team that San Antonio Spurs. When you think at it, it's just unreal to have the development team being older than the first team.

he's definitely showing out in the G-League. Could he be better than Blake Wesley?

Although it’s just a small g league signing and he could be here for only this season. Some speculation on my part:

he’s 6’2”. Looks like the Spurs are pivoting away from their philosophy of having a taller than average point guard. The Truth #6 (https://www.spurstalk.com/forums/member.php?u=6189)

On the Spurs, being on a two way means you are on a developmental pipeline and the end goal is to have them converted to a standard contract as Barlow did and KBD if I recall correctly (if not KBD, someone else). I think Barlow is going to get rotation minutes next year.

Spurs’ philosophy has always been to let the player naturally progress year after year, with the player seeing increased minutes. Next season I see Barlow getting those regular rotation minutes because he has graduated from spotty minutes.

i see the natural evolution like this:
if you are starting as a two way gleague player on the spurs,
Year 1) max minutes in Austin
Year 2) spotty minutes on the main SA team
year 3) regular bench minutes in SA
Year 4) starter

^if the player was drafted late first round, they start at #1 (Wesley).
if the player was drafted in the teens of the first round, they start at #2 if there are vets on the team (Lonnie) and #3 if there are none (Malaki).
if the player was drafted in the top 10, the Spurs will place you at step 4) a starter as we saw with Sochan.

back to Bouyee…

i wonder if they got this guy because he resembles Trae: short, strong scoring, strong passing point guard. Maybe they want to see how he fits in practice and if a player of that archetype really fits with Wemby

Good move
But done at a cost. We've lost Mamadi Diakite.

Wonder if Pop is going to start playing the other scrubs more at this point in the season to see if they're better than Branham or Wesley.

Branham has an nba skill set but lacks assertiveness ( Lonnie walker esque ) but will be given chances during these next couple of years to prove he belongs. He could really pay off in the future but depending on him now as a major piece would be a mistake!

Miami has a great track record for unearthing talent….. let’s see what he can do before bashing him because he took the g league route:) He may suck and that’s ok but if he can play we have found maybe a cheap functional player aka team building.

Spurs just cycle through prospects to eventually find a gem who can become a rotation player

The Spurs want to see what a small PG with no defense and long range can do for the team and evaluate if a Trae Young option would be a good one.

I'm convinced of two things:

1. SpursTalk members have no idea what they're looking at when they watch basketball. Things happen on screen and they watch, drooling, like whatever the nurse put on like inmates at a mental institution.

2. SpursTalk members are like the gross, booger-streaked group of morons at the back of every elementary classroom who try to impress each other with the same tired witticisms and jokes because they're desperate for attention.

RaiQuan Gray was a teammate of Vassell at Florida State (with Patrick Williams also), so I watched a ton of him. He was like dollar store Draymond in college, and he has only played one single game in the NBA like moonlight graham.

In the final game of 22/23 for Brooklyn, off the bench he put up 16, 9, and 7.

He matches our GL starting SF. Might as well surround Wemby with nothing but GL players. It would be cheaper

Don’t we have Graham already?? I really would’ve given 22 yrs old Killian Hayes the reclamation look and see if he can improve. A better defender and who has a chip on his shoulder as a 7th pick.

That would require thinking outside the box, something this front office is not capable of. They are capable of kissing the nba office’s ass by signing g-leaguers and thereby promoting the g-league. Maybe it will lead to better draft order?

No disrespect intended towards my male pattern baldness brothers... but what purpose does a guy with this hairline serve on a 2-way (supposedly developmental) slot?

A steadying hand at the wheel for a team that’s been disorganized as shit for years. I was honestly shocked to see that they have a winning record.

He has one job. Get the ball to Wemby when he is wide open as it seems no one else on the team is willing to.
