He was a real cocky bastard there with the Celtics the first time. Then the next time the Lakers met 'em, we waxed that Walton ass.

Damn, loved watching the man play and was maybe the best color commentator in league history too. Always raved about La Fogata's margaritas any time the Spurs played the Clippers. RIP.

He became cloying though, bum. He went too far with that spiel. He killed the goose that laid the golden eggs.

Great baller when healthy
Broke feet held him back
I heard he was in pain feet and back
Over rated announcer but I under stand why some thought he was something

Him and Tom Tolbert were the best color commentating duo back in my childhood and teenage years. Those two paired with a Mike Tirico or Brad Nessler at play by play were the GOAT announcing team. ESPN/ABC used to have elite announcing teams, before Mike Breen showed up. I thought Mike Breen was a solid 3rd option for TNT but when ESPN hired them to be their #1 and he's unfortunately been the voice of every single NBA Finals game since and including 2006, they really jumped the shark.

I always appreciated his commentary, because he was a big Tim Duncan fan. He really made it known that TD was the best player in the world.

When you look at his player accolades, he had a great career. People always talk about his injuries, but despite that he still accomplished more than most people. I'm guessing he's the only person to win MVP, FMVP, and 6MOY.

Maybe the only person who truly appreciated the genius of Boris Diaw.

agreed. Walton was my favorite, not just because he was hilarious and he had the exaggerated hyperbole ("The vision to acquire Boris Diaw has uplifted this city" rofl), but he also was not afraid to call out star players who were half a$$ing it or making mistakes that aren't immediately clear. Nowadays, CCs just kiss the superstar's a$$ unless they're having an obvious off shooting night

It was hilarious to watch the Clipper games in the early 2000s because he would just shit nonstop on Olowokandi and rant about what a disgrace the Clippers were. Every time I'd watch them I'd wonder why the Clippers hadn't fired him. Then I remember a national game he was doing on ESPN where David Aldridge was reporting about how the Spurs had max capspace that summer and would probably go after Olowokandi to replace the retiring David Robinson and Bill just went off on Aldridge about how Olowokandi wouldn't be worth his next contract and no way the Spurs would blow money on a loser like him and so on.

Just recalled sitting here that he showed up in Los Angeles when the the cops had the SLA holed up in that house and a wild gunfight ensued. Walton showed up, you know with his horseshit, supporting the SLA. LAPD: "Walk away, Mr. Walton, now."

You know what Bill did, amb? He walked away.

And I'll tell ya; Walton made it personal in those moments twixt the Celtics and Lakers. He knew what he was doing and had wanted to do it all his adult life, so, when it presented itself he jumped all over it and never would let up. He hid out in '87 because he couldn't stand the gaffe from that angle.

He was a phony baloney.

Don't bother responding to him. He's in his fucking 70s edge lording online in the only place that will tolerate him. That should give you all the information you need.

They were never after "Black Hole" Olowokandi in the summer of '03. They were always either getting Jermaine, or the vaunted Jason Kidd S&T for Parker with the Nets (arguably would have made us worse) & Rasho. Instead they got neither and got worse by letting Jackson walk and replacing him with that eurotrash guy who couldn't shoot from Turkey.

The failures of PATFO in the summer of '03 is literally the reason why never repeated and had a true dynasty.

Throw it down big man!!!

As others alluded to, I like that he stuck up for fellow big men but he also wasn’t afraid to call it like it is. In the Shaq-Kobe days he was ruthless on Shaq for his laziness before Phil arrived, and started ripping into his poor work ethic in 2002 again.

Shaq was so dominant and the team was nails, so they still won in 2002…but man, if he had a decent work ethic Lakers would’ve won 5 in a row and the Heat would’ve won 2 in a row.

3 chumps in-a-row. Still and all the Pacers were the hardest...got that monkey off Daddy's back and in the bargain got it off Kobe's as well.

Walton was right , then they had their back and forth media war - watch the Walton-Shaq beef video on YouTube, it's pretty good

And yes, if Shaq had a good work ethic he would be ranked higher up all time

The best thing about Bill Walton is he would completely agree with everything you said, been self deprecating, give all the credit for his accomplishment to someone else, then go back to living his Bill Walton life and not given you a second thought. Meanwhile you would return to your corner and post your bullshit on a website that nobody reads.

You insist upon yourself. It's the worst way to be. Always citing something someone else did to excuse your own shittiness. Take some accountability for once in your miserable existence. You're nothing but a follower.
