View Full Version : Nolan Traore - 2025 NBA Draft Prospect

Could also see the Spurs passing on a PG altogether and signing a vet PG for this season in hopes that they can land Nolan Traoré in next year's draft tbh. Not a really a fan of putting all your eggs in one basket so to speak, but I guarantee he's all over the Spurs radar already. A 6'4+ multi-dimensional PG who plays great defense, can pass, shoot, attack the basket, play both on and off-ball, and who also excels in PnR is PATFO's wet dream (and any NBA front office's tbh). He's going to be a hot commodity in next year's draft imo.

Bruno, Pauleta can we get a first hand Frenchy report?

Would seem Tony Parker would be 411 for the Spurs.
For that matter Wemby himself may be familiar.
Is this guy worth waiting for to match with Wemby?

He’s legit. Been really coming on as of late. Has a really advanced game for a 17 year-old. NBA Draft Room currently has him projected as the #2 pick in next year’s draft. Washington would select him with the #2 pick this year if he were draft eligible imo.

We really need to hope the Hawks implode, land in the bottom 10 and somehow get into the top 5 of the 2025 draft. If we nail our picks now and can get a lottery pick in 2025 it‘s a wrap for the league

ONE MORE TANK!

Spurs will likely suck again next year tbh. Maybe not as bad as we did this year, but we should definitely be a bottom-8 team. More importantly, we really need Atlanta to suck next year. The 2025 Class looks like it's going to be stacked compared to this class. Lots of really good Guard and Wing prospects coming out next year, so having 2 top-10 picks would be stellar for us tbh. I'm super high on this kid though. He'd be the perfect PG next to Wemby tbh.

Traoré has some Jamal Murray in him too. Similar size and the form on his jumper looks really similar to Murray's as well. He already has that pull-up midrange game like Murray does, and just the way he makes defenses pay if they go under the screen. He's like a more explosive, better passing, better defending Jamal Murray. I think he's gonna be special the next level tbh.

Despite the solid-looking form on his jumper, he definitely needs to improve both his FG% and FT%, as most 16-17 year-olds do. He’s likely relied on his athleticism and explosive first step to get him to this point in his career. But those are things that can be improved upon. His advanced feel for the game cannot be taught.

Spoiler alert: ATL been shopping Trae for a year and will continue to do so, which is going to affect his morale. ATL won’t be good next year. They have to move Trae before 2025, or risk getting literal pennies on the dollar for a rental, with his 2026 opt out looming. The worst thing that could happen for us is that they move him quickly. They were better when he was out last year after the ASG.

He looks great for his age, and he's getting that same bump now that Nikola Topic got after his fast start last Fall... but if you're worried about Topic's 3 point shot, you'll probably have similar concerns for Traore's, and Topic so far is a much better free throw shooter.

But can't you already see a difference in their athleticism or mobility? He really checks a lot more boxes than Topic for the NBA game

Armel Traore (a very athletic player) played with Victor last year at the Mets, so I guess the two know each other (Victor never played at INSEP though). And Armel is entering the draft this year if he hasn't withdrawn his name. Maybe a way to coax him... Some fans are already talking about him as a Tony Parker with a three-point shot.

The question currently is what choice he will make for next year. NCAA, Saint-Quentin, a Euroleague team in France, in Europe. Or even if he will be selected for the Olympic Games (he is a training partner, but who knows, the PG situation for the FNT is problematic...).

Topic has been pretty consistent through the whole mock process as far as being in the top 3 - Yeah, this year is weak but the only reason he is not mocked so high is because of his knee injury

For precision, that 45 pt game isn't against Barcelona pro ACB team, that's Barcelona youth team. That remains impressive but he's playing vs other teens, all under 18, in that game.

Tbh he has already has shown that he could perform against the very best french teams.
As a 17 yo who only played 7 pro games before, he joined Saint Quentin late march and didn't practice with them. He still relegated Lucas Boucaud, his team most impactful player this season, to garbage minutes and instantly became the best player on a playoff team. He's the youngest player to have scored 25 points in the french league.
And he didn't do it against college kids or those u18 players, he did it against ASVEL, one of the top 3 clubs in france and an Euroleague team.

He has the complete skillset for a PG, he's an outstanding floor general, a way above-average athlete, with the speed, burst and verticality to project himself as a great slasher in the nba and his defense is almost better than his offense.
You can say he's Topic with defense and better athleticism

Now it is true that his outside shooting is the swingskill that will determine his ceiling.

If we're talking about 2026, I really haven't dug into that yet. I know the two at the top because they're already getting so much attention. I'm just getting into the 2025 stuff now. On 2025, as of now, there are probably a dozen to 15 players I'd take over anyone in this 2024 draft.

Yeah, no doubt he's one of the top PGs of his generation. The confidence, the maturity, the precocity are impressive. What's striking is where you wonder with most prosepcts if they belong to the NBA, Nolan has NBA written all over him, and you can already see at 17 the player he's gonna be in in the US, like it's obvious, right there in front of you.

TP didn't even have that "floor generalness" at 18, and never really had tbh as Parker never was your traditional playmaking PG.

Was going to make a thread on this. It won't happen, but wouldn't it be some ballsy chess high risk / high reward if it was pulled off.

Trade one of our 24s, hell maybe even both of them to a team that is very highly likely to not only be a 25 lottery team, but a bottom 4 record team.
I know, that's alot to predict, especially since the 24 draft has not taken place yet.

But wouldn't it be sweet to get a much better two 2025 can't miss picks that can ride with Wemby for 10 years vs 2024s maybes.

Yeah,no one is doing that. I’ve seen several different variants on this, but everyone knows the weakness in this draft, and the strength of 2025 and 2026. I don’t think 1 and 2 in this draft could get you a pick in the top5 next year.

Aha so 2025 he cannot enter the NBA draft.

Cooper Flagg and Cameron Boozer were in the same high school grade at one point, but Flagg reclassified to graduate early. Flagg's birth date is Dec 21st, 2006 meaning he'll be playing college ball at age 17/18 and will barely turn 19 in his NBA Draft calendar year of 2025. He'll still be 18 in his first NBA game.

On the other hand, Boozer's birthday is July 2007 and isn't eligible to be drafted until he turns 19 in 2026.

That's the smartest move, specially watching Wemby and Zach these past two years. He aldredy got and willl keep on getting all the attention and space he needs to develop his game in his team in Pro A.

Special player and future star, I hope he can sneak his way to the Olympics french roster tbh.. Just saw on the article he was second best passer per minute in the french league after he joined it mid season, at 17... He's really not just a slasher and should have an immediate impact as soon as he joins the NBA, like TP did.

french roster has been anounced already and Nolan is only been added as "sparring partner" right now (and is supposed to play the U18 euro in Finland ths summer) but I'm not sure exactly when the official list has to be given to the FIBA and if french federation and coach consider changing the list.

Nolan says in the article he hopes to make the team so maybe it's possible, or Givony misunderstood, but there would be a path if you ask me with Killian Hayes, Theo Maledon or Frank Ntilikina as other options at PG... Would be fun to watch the kid play with Wemby in Paris.

Traoré 2024 year was crazy. At the end of the calendar year, he was around 60 games played with a lot of practices and without a single break. He just spend the whole year playing for various teams various competitions.

He isn't the perfect project, with poor shooting being his obvious main flaw, but he is way better than what he is showing currently. He is just burned out physically and mentally.

Nothing actually. I just searched Google to find this thread and I couldn’t believe my luck that I was like one of the last people posting on this thread lol. And good news is for all you guys so obsessed with Giddey maybe spurs can snag him this offseason if they pay enough at restricted free agency. Giddey / Castle / Rookie non shooting wing/ Sochan / Wemby seems like the perfect lineup around Wemby!

Nobody is obsessed with Giddey, tbh. :lol

Speaking of Juan Nuñez, what's up with him?

I’ve watched a few of his games lately.

Tbh he’s impressed me a little bit as my original opinion of him was pretty low. He usually gets two separate stints as a back-up - end of first, start of second and then the same in 3rd and 4th, so his role is very clear. He’s a smart player who generally knows what to do and where to be. His passing is very good, it’s his best attribute by far. Handles the ball reasonably well too. Other than that he tries going to the rim but lacks the speed and athleticism to go all the way and finish strongly, his shot is slow but not as bad as some of the numbers suggest. Adequate on defence but gets beaten by stronger, quicker players.

All in all, he’s young and will probably improve but he’s painfully unathletic so it’s very unlikely for him to become a real NBA player. Think Nuggets Campazzo. In Europe, though, I’d expect him to have a solid career due to smarts and feel.

Think there's a chance the Spurs made a promise with him and he's mailing it in to drop his draft stock?

That's not logical.

yeah I was being facetious. I am just hoping maybe spurs draft a shooter next year and I’m happy.

That kind of thing generally happens after the combine and after the lottery when your draft position is set. Someone you might be interested in at 12 drops completely off the radar if lightning strikes and you jump into the top 4.

Thanks for the report!

Yeah, that was my mindset when I posted that without realizing the draft was still half a year off.
