I was able to meet Taylor Rooks, Stephen A. Smith, Andre Igoduola, and Shams Charania. Stephen A. Smith was accompanied by a lot of security and was walking towards the ESPN set (in the opposite direction), but made an effort to come over to acknowledge and dap me up.
I shook hands and spoke to Rob Dillingham, Reed Sheppard, Stephon Castle, and Jared McCain.
I saw Castle before the draft and told him I hope the Spurs picked him and good luck. He said he appreciated it. But he didn't tip anything.
I told Dillingham the Spurs needed a point guard. He told me that he didn't think the Spurs were going to draft him. So... to my surprise when they drafted him at #8... (and then later traded him).
Sheppard... I can't remember what I said since the Spurs weren't targeting him really but he was really nice (I mean all of them were nice if we are being honest).
McCain... I told him I liked his social media and dancing, and he laughed. I think Castle said something to the effect of "you know I'm his teammate right?" Did they play together on Team USA or something? Either I misheard who said that or I misheard what Castle said.
Thoughts:
I love the Castle pick at #4... a defensively minded player with superstar potential if he gets better at shooting. Intangibles leading to his team winning the NCAAM National title.
I wish we kept Dillingham at #8. The Spurs lacked any real play maker and some who could break you down in the half court... Dillingham was arguably the most dynamic scorer in this draft.
Photos too large to post and it's been a long day.
