Just opted out of the final year of his deal in LA. I hear a lot of talk about getting an older star whose money comes off the books right when Victor's supermax would kick in so this would be a chance to get one without having to sell the farm.

As if they'd have a chance of appealing to George, who is obviously far down the road with the Clippers and 76ers because that's how this (and probably every other league) works.

He wouldn't have to worry about choking in the playoffs here though, and no state tax.

Not if hes taking 50M no. I would rather have Keldon at 17M than PG at 50M personally. Especially if it would take a pick to “dump”Keldon (which is ridiculous IMO considering he has + value but so many here think hes a net negative value)

God how awkward of a conversation it would be if Pop called PG13 and serious proposed a meeting. Gut wrenching, like having to explain your Alzheimer's ravaged grandma that her husband died 20 years ago.

I'd be fine salary dumping Keldon, but not for PG13.

Yes, he's a perfect fit for what we need. A 3 and D who can open up the paint for Wemby and fills that open SF spot for us. Definitely not for the max though.

Paul George, even at 34, is faaaar more than a "3 and D" player. He would easily be the second best player on the Spurs and much closer to best than third best.
Doesn't fit the puzzle.
1. PG is going to be hunting a max or near-max contract for 3-4 years...not in the Spurs timeline.
2. PG is also still hunting for a championship, so it's probably going to come down to Clippers or Sixers for him. He is not going to want to come join a rebuilding effort in San Antonio, even with Wemby
3. PG is 34 years old and has been injury prone throughout his career. If the Spurs are going to put all their eggs in a basket, that's not that one they should be targeting.

Agree with 1 and 3.
2. Nah he's want max paycheck and muh touches.
Doesn't give 2 shits about earning a Championship.
I mean sure if he could coatail off some stars he'd take the Chip as additional.
All about muh touches.
Don't want the Me Player near Wemby or the Spurs.

George wants a ring
George wants all the shots, a max contract and a ring. He's in no way realistic about what it takes. Paying 50 million dollars for empty calories is just a waste of Victor's career.

You’re just talking stuff you don’t know about. He was absolutely fine with being second option to Kawhi in order to win a championship. Willing to sacrifice. This is literally a quote from Paul George himself:
"I had to be honest to myself," George continued. "In order for me to win at the highest level and get to where I want to get to, I don't think I'm the one guy. I can, I can score with the best, I can take over games with the best. But I don't honestly think that's what my game is if I want to win a championship. I don't think that's where my place is if I want to win a championship. I felt like I learned that."

If he insists on being paid like the guy it’s just hollow words
It's not about what the Spurs want zzzzz. Some of you really have outdated takes. It's about what Wemby wants, he's a one in a lifetime player, franchises will burn their future to the ground just to have a meeting with him down the line. You trade for a 2031 pick and you refuse to have a go at PG, yeah you live in Popoland not in real life. Probably don't get who has all the leverage if you do that. He's a very good player with a pure outside shot, everything this team needs to make the POs of course you do it if you can.

Wow, that sounds really great. A guy who talks like that deserves a supermax, because he wouldn't say it if he didn't mean it.

If a team (a contender level team on paper) is willing to pay you all that money then why wouldn’t you take it? He’s going to willingly take a backseat to Embiid and even let Maxey cook whenever he wants. He wanted that 4th year with his injury history and Sixers were “dumb” enough to give it to him so you can’t blame him for that.

Takin all det money is fine. We all know that's what he was after. He can ring chase and talk about his commitment to winning while not having to lower his standard of living.
